Abstract

Infectious diseases, intestinal worms that are transmitted through the soil (Soil-transmitted helminthiasis) is common infection that involves many people in the world. Estimates suggest Ascaris lumbricoides infect over one billion people. The number of most worm infections apply to sub-Saharan Africa, the Americas, China, and East Asia. The prevalence of asthma and other atopic diseases in children has increased worldwide in recent years, but the reason behind the increase in prevalence is unknown. Most epidemiologic data derived from research centers in the west while in Indonesia have not been many reports on the prevalence of allergies, especially when associated with parasitic infections. Ascaris lumbricoides infections induce immune responses that lead to the production of immunoglobulin type E (IgE) in large numbers. Atopy can be diagnosed by an individual or a family history that confirmed the presence of allergen-specific IgE or skin prick test results were positive. Conducted this study to compare the proportion of atopy in children infected with Ascaris lumbricoides were not infected with the cross-sectional method and determine the relationship between Ascaris lumbricoides infection of the skin prick test results with the allergen of Ascaris on elementary school children 047/XI Koto Baru with a history of atopy in the Coastal Hills District Full River City Jambi Province. Of 258 students overall, as many as 220 students and are willing to meet the requirements of the study examined stool. On a stool examination, 220 students found that Ascaris lumbricoides infections by 67 students and non-patient infection of Ascaris lumbricoides at 153 students. There is a relationship between Ascaris lumbricoides infection of a positive skin prick test results with the allergen of Ascaris on elementary school children 047/XI Koto Baru with a history of atopy in the Coastal Hills District Full River City Jambi Province namely in children infected with Ascaris lumbricoides was 67 (100% ) significantly different compared with uninfected children Ascaris lumbricoides 153 (100%) (p=0.0001)

Abstract

Background: Hypertension contributes to 71% of deaths in the world and 85% of them are found in developing countries. In Indonesia, it is reported that 91.3 million people suffer from hypertension which contributes to 35% of deaths of the population in Indonesia. The high incidence of hypertension is known to be closely related to a lack of knowledge and attitudes toward hypertension. Therefore, it is necessary to know the relationship between knowledge, attitudes and prac, tices toward hypertension. Method: This study used a cross-sectional research design. The sample in this study was the people of Sidikalang District who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data used is primary data obtained using a questionnaire instrument and using the consecutive method. Results. Test results Chi-Square showed that there was no relationship between age (p>0.05), gender (p>0.05), and education (p>0.0.5) on knowledge and attitudes towards hypertension. Age (p=0.304) and education (p=0.150) showed there was no relationship with practice toward hypertension, and gender (and p=0.032) showed there was a relationship with practice toward hypertension. The level of knowledge (p=0.005) and attitude (p=0.000) show that there is a relationship with practice toward hypertension. Conclusion: There is a relationship between knowledge and attitude with practice toward hypertension in the Sidikalang District community.

Abstract

This community service examines the empowerment and independence of Desa Binaan Bagan Kuala in the Tanjung Beringin Sub-district of Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra, through the implementation of ecotourism, ecoprint development activities, appropriate waste management, and malaria eradication initiatives. The objectives of this research are to assess the socio-economic impacts of these initiatives on the local community and evaluate their contributions to sustainable development. The research utilized a mixed-methods approach, collecting both qualitative and quantitative data from 150 households in the village through surveys and interviews. The findings indicate that ecotourism initiatives have generated a 30% increase in local income, attracting over 1,000 visitors annually and creating approximately 50 jobs. The ecoprint development activities have empowered 40 local artisans, resulting in a 25% increase in their income and the production of over 2,000 ecoprint items in the past year. Moreover, the implementation of appropriate waste management practices has led to a 40% reduction in local waste pollution, with 75% of households participating in waste segregation and recycling programs. Malaria eradication efforts have also shown significant results, with reported malaria cases decreasing by 60% over the last two years due to community engagement in health education and the distribution of insecticide-treated nets. This comprehensive approach to community empowerment not only enhances economic independence but also promotes environmental sustainability and public health. The success of these initiatives demonstrates the potential for rural communities in Indonesia to achieve sustainable development through participatory strategies that address both economic and health-related challenges.
