Abstract

This research investigates effective communication strategies in improving the public speaking skills of Alfadh Parfum employees. In the competitive business world, public speaking ability is a very important skill for companies like Alfadh Parfum. This study uses a qualitative and quantitative approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews and structured surveys from employees who took part in the company's public speaking training program. The research results show that an integrated approach involving intensive training, simulation practice sessions, and direct feedback from trainers and colleagues is very effective in improving public speaking skills. Additionally, the implementation of communications technology such as video conferencing platforms enables remote training, allowing employees to participate without geographic restrictions. This approach not only helps overcome public speaking anxiety but also strengthens self-confidence and the ability to convey messages clearly. This research underlines the importance of targeted and integrated communication strategies in improving public speaking, producing Alfadh Parfum employees who are more confident, effective and charming in communicating with various parties, which ultimately improves the company's reputation.

Abstract

The city of Medan, as a center of rapidly developing social and economic activity, is experiencing an interesting phenomenon related to the erosion of the meaning of words in communication ethics, namely "please," "sorry," and "thank you." This research tries to explore this. First, the word “help” has softened into a mere word of politeness, losing its essence as an act of empathy and cooperation. People often ask for “help” without actually expecting concrete help, creating ambiguity in social interactions. Second, “sorry” is often used routinely, without a deep understanding of guilt or regret. This phenomenon shows a lack of responsibility in communication, where apologies are often just a formality without meaning. Third, "thank you" has become a sign of gratitude that loses its meaning, often said hastily and without any sense of sincerity. This reflects a decline in appreciation for social assistance and cooperation. These three phenomena reflect a cultural shift in communication ethics in the city of Medan. Further research is needed to understand the impact of the erosion of the meaning of these words on the quality of social interactions and how they can be restored to more meaningful use in everyday communication.

Abstract

The study on symbolic violence against women is limited. There is still a significant degree of suspicion and stigma in society around the notion that women are weak and helpless compared to men and that women are continually the victims of patriarchal symbolic violence in terms of language, social economics, and others. This research aims to investigate how and why symbolic violence is performed against women in patriarchal cultures, the kinds of symbolic violence against women, the determinants of symbolic violence in this instance, and the effects of linguistic-symbolic violence on women in Medan Tembung. This qualitative research included seven individuals between the ages of 15 and 35. Observations and interviews were employed to collect data for this investigation. The acquired data was then examined using sociological methodologies to disclose the field phenomena and interview outcomes precisely. Furthermore, this research employs the theory of Pierre Bourdieu to comprehend symbolic violence in society. This study's results demonstrate that symbolic violence persists in society, particularly in meetings and in the form of language. The results of this research support this concept by providing evidence of symbolic violence in the form of language or particular terminology that women are not permitted to use, although males are permitted to do so, and which seem to be prevalent in daily life.

Abstract

This study focuses on the role of intrapersonal communication in rebuilding the self-confidence of women who have experienced body shaming in Medan City. Body shaming is understood as a form of verbal abuse that can cause serious psychological consequences, including decreased self-esteem, body image disturbances, and feelings of worthlessness. The primary aim of this research is to explore how intrapersonal communication processes, particularly self-talk and self-reflection, contribute to the psychological recovery of the victims. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with five female informants who have experienced body shaming, supported by data triangulation through an interview with a clinical psychologist. The findings indicate that positive intrapersonal communication helps victims recognize, accept, and value themselves, thereby gradually restoring their lost self-confidence. In addition, support from family and the surrounding social environment plays a significant role in strengthening the mental recovery process. This research contributes to the fields of communication studies and mental health, and may serve as a reference for developing educational programs that are sensitive to gender issues in society and educational institutions.
