Abstract

This research aims to determine the impact of smartphones in maintaining parent-child relationships through long-distance interpersonal communication for students of the Communication Science Study Program, North Sumatra State Islamic University. This research uses a qualitative approach. For data collection, the author used direct interviews, indirect interviews via WhatsApp social media and literature studies. The results of this research include; 1) Long distance interpersonal communication between parents and children via smartphone; (a) monitor the progress of children's studies; (b) health condition; (c) monitoring children's relationships with friends; (d) maintaining openness between children and their parents; (e) monitor financial conditions. 2) Intensity of media use 3) Media and its features 4) Impact of smartphones in maintaining good relationships between parents and children in long distance conditions: 1.1 Positive impact; a) Increasing close relationships b) Ease of access to information; c) Openness and trust 1.2 Negative impacts; a) as if there is no news, the child forgets to tell the parents; b) network or signal interference from both parties; c) miscommunication or misunderstanding in conveying the message; d) applications that must be updated. This research suggests a balanced approach to smartphone use is essential for parents and children to remain emotionally connected and maintain a healthy relationship. Abstract

This study aims to find out tourists that Lake Toba is designed as one of the halal tourist destinations in Indonesia, but there is rejection among the community, especially tourism managers in the Lake Toba area. Rejection occurs because the community considers it to be contrary to the traditions and culture of the Batak tribe that have existed for generations. The purpose of this study is to find out how much halal tourism is in Lake Toba. The implementation of halal tourism is difficult to find around Lake Toba tourism because the majority are non-Muslims. So for Muslim tourists it is difficult to find halal tourism with places and dishes that are according to Islamic law. For Muslim tourists who travel, many still use the facilities provided as is. Tourists visiting Lake Toba are more Muslim than non-Muslim, but it is very minimal to find halal tourism. The study also showed that effective interpersonal communication involves direct interaction between officers and tourists, with officers providing clear and accurate information about halal services.

Abstract

The use of social media, especially Instagram media, has experienced an increase in users without exception, students also participate as Instagram users with a variety of content. However, it is a phenomenon for every user with a record of being tied to Instagram media experiencing FoMO, meaning they feel worried when they miss information or worry when they don't know about activities circulating on social media, especially Instagram media. The influence of this anxiety has an impact on the behavior and attitudes of every social media user. Feelings of FoMO can be reduced by focusing on yourself, limiting excessive use of Instagram and gadgets, seeking real connections, and respecting yourself. This study aims to find out how fear of missing out (FoMO) is for Instagram users in communication science students at UIN North Sumatra. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection methods through observation and interviews. Informants in this study amounted to 6 people. Alfared Schutz's phenomonological theory which unites scientific knowledge with life experiences and daily activities that are used as experiences. The results of the study show that FoMO occurs in Instagram users due to following trends, recommendations from friends, to fill spare time, looking for information (stalking), business and others. FoMO can be caused by two factors, namely social factors, influenced because they are afraid of being left behind by a trend and are not connected to the conversations of their friends or other people. Personal factors are influenced for fear of being left behind by existing trends, using Instagram for a long time to get satisfaction for himself. This is what can cause FoMO symptoms by someone where the person feels dependent on Instagram, checks Instagram all the time and feels anxious if they cannot access or are not connected to Instagram.

Abstract

Current Gender issues have not shown equality. Inequality between women and men almost occurs in all fields such as education, politics and even family. Film is a representation of the form of human daily life, both based on true stories and science fiction from writers or directors. This study uses descriptive qualitative methodology by identifying and interpreting myths, denotations, and indicators of Gender inequality in films.. Researchers found three scenes in the film "Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap" that depicted Gender bias. These scenes were analyzed using Roland Barthes' semiotics to uncover denotations, connotations, and myths, aiming to analyze Gender bias in Bene Dion's film Raja Gukguk. The film highlights male dominance inside and outside the family, showing how men make decisions without considering the well-being of their families. Taken together, the study reveals the deep-rooted Gender bias depicted in the film.

Abstract

Abstract The Public Relations Strategy of Ubudiyah Aulawiyah Mosque PTPN II Tanjung Morawa in maintaining the Current Image of the Jamah is very important for the pilgrims and the people of Tanjung Morawa District. Because that way it can provide positive value for the mosque and also have a positive impact. The subject of how the Public Relations Strategy of the Aulawiyah Ubudiyah Mosque PTPN II Tanjung Morawa contributes to maintaining the image of existing worshippers will be examined in this study with the aim of providing a response through the process of planning, implementation, and assessment. At this time, it is very important for the congregation and people living in Tanjung Morawa District that the Ubudiyah Aulawiyah Mosque PTPN II Tanjung Morawa maintains an effective public relations strategy to maintain the image of the congregation. This descriptive qualitative research method was used for this study. Interviews and observations are the two main ways of data collection in this investigation. After collecting the data, sociological methods are taken to study it in order to better understand the phenomena occurring in the area. The theory developed by Frank Jefkins was used in this investigation. Jefkins' theory consists of five different public relations images, one of which is the image of the company. The findings of the research on the Public Relations Strategy of Ubudiyah Aulawiyah Mosque PTPN II Tanjung Morawa in maintaining the current image of worshippers are in accordance with the theory used, which includes the use of several strategies, namely Social Media (WhatsApp and Facebook), Television, and other media such as Banners, Billboards, and Posters.Keywords: Public Relations, Mosque, Current Image Abstraksi Strategi Public Relations Masjid Ubudiyah Aulawiyah PTPN II Tanjung Morawa dalam menjaga Current Image Jamah sangat penting sekali bagi para jamaah dan masyarakat Kecamatan Tanjung Morawa. Karena dengan begitu dapat meberikan nilai positif bagi masjid dan juga memberikan dampak yang positif. Subjek bagaimana Strategi Humas Masjid Aulawiyah Ubudiyah PTPN II Tanjung Morawa berkontribusi dalam mempertahankan citra jamaah yang ada akan diteliti dalam penelitian ini dengan tujuan memberikan respon melalui proses perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan penilaian. Pada saat ini, sangat penting bagi jemaah dan orang-orang yang tinggal di Distrik Tanjung Morawa bahwa Masjid Ubudiyah Aulawiyah PTPN II Tanjung Morawa mempertahankan strategi hubungan masyarakat yang efektif untuk menjaga citra Jemaah. Metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif inilah yang digunakan untuk penelitian ini. Wawancara dan observasi adalah dua cara utama pengumpulan data dalam penyelidikan ini. Setelah mengumpulkan data, metode sosiologis diambil untuk mempelajarinya untuk lebih memahami fenomena yang terjadi di daerah tersebut. Teori yang dikembangkan oleh Frank Jefkins digunakan dalam penyelidikan ini. Teori Jefkins terdiri dari lima gambar hubungan masyarakat yang berbeda, salah satunya adalah citra perusahaan. Temuan penelitian tentang Strategi Humas Masjid Ubudiyah Aulawiyah PTPN II Tanjung Morawa dalam menjaga citra jamaah saat ini sesuai dengan teori yang digunakan, yang meliputi penggunaan beberapa strategi, yaitu Media Sosial (WhatsApp dan Facebook), Televisi, dan media lainnya seperti Spanduk, Baliho, dan Poster.Kata Kunci: Public Relations, Masjid, Current Image

Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze the leadership communication model implemented by the Student Executive Board (DEMA) of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU). This research is crucial as effective communication is key to strengthening leadership and enhancing the performance of student organizations in a dynamic academic environment. By understanding the dynamics of communication in the context of student leadership, it is hoped that recommendations can be found to improve leadership effectiveness and strengthen relationships between students and the academic community and broader society. The method used in this study is qualitative with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews with DEMA members, participatory observation in DEMA meetings and activities, and analysis of official documents such as meeting minutes and activity reports. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis to identify main themes, and data validity was examined through data triangulation, credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability techniques. The results show that the Leadership Communication Model of DEMA-FIS UINSU emphasizes openness, constructive feedback, and adaptability to situations and member needs. This model encompasses various critical aspects of leadership communication, including how leaders communicate, how messages are conveyed, and how they are received and understood by organization members. However, the model also faces challenges, including gaps between the vision conveyed by leaders and members' understanding and engagement, as well as challenges in achieving deep consensus or overcoming differing opinions that may arise. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the strengths and limitations of the leadership communication model applied in DEMA-FIS UINSU, and offers recommendations for further improvement and development in student leadership practices.

Abstract

Trend Library Café di kota Medan yang dilatarbelakangi oleh keinginan untuk menumbuhkan dan meningkatkan budaya baca yang mulai ditinggalkan oleh kaum muda masa kini dengan menambahkan fasilitas café sebagai daya tarik yang diambil dari penyesuaian dengan gaya hidup masa kini. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui peran Trend Library Cafe dalam mendukung minat baca generasi muda kota Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis data kualitatif, yakni observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya peran Trend Library Cafe dalam mendukung minat baca generasi muda kota Medan. Trend Library Cafe memiliki tiga peran perpustakaan yang dimiliki Trend Library Cafe yaitu menyelenggarakan story telling, meningkatkan fasilitas perpustakaan, dan menyelenggarakan kegiatan penunjang. Dalam meningkatkan fasilitas perpustakaan, Trend Library Cafe juga menerapkan konsep yang berbeda yaitu seperti menyediakan berbagai macam makanan dan minuman serta buku-buku yang dapat dibaca secara santai. Berdasarkan hasil temuanperpustakaan yang dulunya merupakan pusat informasi dan sarana belajar bagi kaum muda telah dianggap sebagai tempat yang membosankan, formal, dan kaku. Adanya konsep café yang mulai bermunculan, membuat kaum muda cenderung beralih nongkrong di café daripada di perpustakaan. Hal ini dikarenakan gaya hidup masa kini yang cenderung menawarkan suasana yang santai, nyaman, terbuka dengan fasilitas yang menarik. Trend café dapat digunakan untuk seminar dan bedah buku. Hal tersebut agar pengunjung dapat mengetahui keberadaan Trend Library Cafe.

Abstract

Tiktok merupakan salah satu media sosial yang paling populer dengan fitur yang disediakan berupa video dan foto yang menarik. Tiktok selain digunakan sebagai sarana hiburan juga dapat berfungsi sebagai media pendidikan literasi digital yang menjadi sumber informasi masyarakat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan mengkaji peran akun Tiktok @jadipenulismuda sebagai sumber informasi Mahasiswa Ilmu Perpustakaan UINSU berbasis Digital Literacy. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik observasi terhadap isi akun @jadipenulismuda, serta wawancara pemilik akun @jadipenulismuda dengan dua mahasiswa Ilmu Perpustakaan UINSU dan dokumentasi dengan instrumen penelitian berupa handphone. Analisis data dilakukan dengan meringkas seluruh data hasil wawancara, kemudian data tersebut dipilah dan disajikan dalam bentuk narasi dan tabel dan pada tahap akhir dilakukan pengecekan silang antar informan. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa akun Tiktok @jadipenulismuda juga berperan sebagai sumber informasi publik, khususnya oleh mahasiswa Ilmu Perpustakaan UINSU. Hal ini terlihat dari para siswa yang telah mem-follow akun @jadipenulismuda merasakan dampak peningkatan kemampuan menulis dan rasa ingin tahu mereka terhadap buku dan informasi lainnya. Upaya yang dilakukan akun @jadipenulismuda dalam menyajikan informasi adalah teori information repackaging dimana informasi yang sudah ada dikemas kembali menjadi bentuk baru yang semakin menarik perhatian publik.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how the prostitution process occurs in female commercial sex workers in the film Gangubai Kathiawadi. The theory used in this study is the theory of Ronal Barthes Semiotics which analyzes films with three stages of meaning, namely connotation, denotation and myth. This study used qualitative descriptive method. The approach that researchers use is qualitative with semiotic analysis. Data collection techniques are primary and secondary, with documentation collecting image forms obtained from screen captures and literature studies. The results of this study show that a woman who is trapped in the world of prostitution and becomes a female Commercial Sex Worker and is discriminated against by her customers and the surrounding community which also affects the children of Commercial Sex Worker women. Disturb just wants to get equal rights and justice without distinguishing from each other.

Abstract

This research discusses the results of cross-cultural communication discussions that took place in the Medan ARMY community regarding the femininity displayed by BTS. So we get the result that masculinity is BTS's gender identity displayed by the media regarding BTS' feminine appearance, giving rise to a reconstruction of femininity among fans and the wider community. In it there are differences in understanding what femininity and masculinity actually are and how they respond to each of them which becomes an obstacle in the process of cross-cultural communication that exists. According to fans, the rearrangement of the meaning of femininity displayed by BTS creates an alienation of local culture from global culture. The feminine appearance displayed by BTS is considered by Indonesian society to be a social deviation and has a negative impact on Indonesia's young generation. Social construction among Indonesian society regarding femininity and masculinity is a marker of someone's appearance as a gender identity, but this is denied by some groups who think that a person's appearance does not have to be limited by gender. A person has the right to look as comfortable as possible without having to be limited by social constructions that exist in society, as well as the formation of standards from various groups and environments.
