Abstract

This research focuses on problems regarding the reading habits of the digital native generation, known as hyper reading, which influences the development of learning media. Because currently, the development of learning media pays little attention to the reading characteristics of its users. So, this research aims to determine the influence of hyper reading on the development and packaging of learning media. This study used descriptive qualitative method. One way to obtain this data is through literature studies, surveys and focus group discussions. The survey results found that the characteristics of hyper reading that are most often felt by users are filtering, skimming, pecking, imposing, and filming. There are two categories of learning media that are influenced by hyper reading, namely print and non-print media. The characteristics of hyper reading can influence the development of learning media that involves the reading process. The most significant influence is in the message design or packaging of learning media materials in accordance with the five characteristics of hyper reading, namely filtering, skimming, pecking, imposing and filming.

Abstract

Abstract This development research aims to produce a product as a hypercontent book for the Program Evaluation course in the TP FIP UNJ. This development was carried out based on the results of the researcher's observations, namely the need for reference learning resources for students in the Program Evaluation course, especially in TP FIP UNJ. The development of this hypercontent book refers to the product development model, according to Rowntree. The Rowntree model is a model designed to produce a particular teaching material. According to Rowntree, there are three stages in developing teaching materials: the planning stage, the writing preparation stage, and the writing and editing stage. This study used formative evaluation by involving two experts, material experts and media experts, and users, namely TP FIP UNJ students. This phase 1 development research produced a prototype of the Program Evaluation Hypercontent Book consisting of 11 chapters and 314 pages presented in printed form using soft cover specifications and paper book paper.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and validate a hypercontent book as an innovative learning resource for the Program Evaluation course in the Educational Technology Study Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The study was motivated by the limited availability of engaging and multimedia-rich learning materials that support students’ independent learning in higher education. A design and development approach was employed using Rowntree’s instructional design model, which comprises three stages: planning, preparation for writing, and writing and editing. A needs analysis was first conducted to identify students’ learning needs and course characteristics, which then informed the integration of text, audio, visuals, and video into an interactive hypercontent format. The developed product was evaluated through expert review involving subject-matter, media, and instructional design experts, as well as a one-to-one evaluation with three students. The expert appraisal showed high levels of validity and feasibility, with average scores of 4.5 out of 5 for content accuracy, 4.7 for multimedia integration, and 4.6 for usability, while the student evaluation yielded an average score of 4.67 out of 5. These findings indicate that the hypercontent book is pedagogically appropriate, technically feasible, and supportive of self-paced learning. The study concludes that hypercontent-based instructional materials can enhance learner engagement and enrich learning experiences in specialized higher education courses. This research contributes to the growing literature on digital learning resource development by demonstrating the potential of hypercontent books as interactive and scalable tools for course-specific instruction in higher education.
