Abstract

Traditional markets are places of interaction between sellers and buyers which are characterized by direct transactions and frequent bargaining processes. The existence of traditional markets makes people happy because traditional markets provide many basic daily needs and necessities and of course the prices are much cheaper than in supermarkets. Because of this, the development of traditional markets really needs to be improved, so that public interest increases, changes to traditional markets are needed. The development of traditional markets in Blitar can be seen, among other things, by physical renovations, activities to clean the environment around the market, arrangement of places and grouping of types of merchandise, orderly administration, order and security. Supporting factors include traditional market traders who always follow the advice and directions of market managers, the presence of cleaning staff, and good support from the Trade Department. However, there are also factors that hinder the development of traditional markets in increasing public interest, including: lack of public awareness about not throwing away rubbish, packaging of goods for sale that does not attract public interest, water drains that are often clogged with rubbish. The approach we take is a qualitative approach, such as going directly to traditional markets to see firsthand a clear picture and accurate facts.

Abstract

This study was conducted to develop a local wisdom-based Pop-Up Story Book as a learning medium for improving reading comprehension skills among fourth-grade students at UPT SDN Kademangan 01, Blitar Regency, as well as to examine its validity and effectiveness. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The participants consisted of 20 fourth-grade students of UPT SDN Kademangan 01. Data collection was carried out through material expert validation sheets, media expert validation sheets, language expert validation sheets, teacher response questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test assessments. The findings indicated that the developed learning media met the criteria of high validity, obtaining validation scores of 82% from material experts, 90% from language experts, and 90% from media experts. In addition, the teacher response questionnaire yielded a score of 93.4%, indicating that the media was highly effective for classroom use. The effectiveness of the media was further supported by a substantial improvement in students’ reading comprehension performance. The average score increased from 47.00 on the pre-test to 91.00 on the post-test. Statistical analysis using the One-Sample T-Test produced a significance value of 0.000, which was lower than the threshold of 0.05, demonstrating a significant effect of the developed media on students’ reading comprehension achievement. Based on these findings, the local wisdom-based Pop-Up Story Book can be considered a valid, effective, and suitable learning medium for elementary school students while simultaneously promoting local cultural values through the story of Kyai Bonto Kademangan.

Abstract

Viewing skill is among the key language competencies that students must develop within the framework of Indonesia's Merdeka Curriculum. A preliminary study conducted at SDI Ma'arif Garum, however, found that fourth-grade students had not adequately developed this skill, largely due to the dominance of teacher-centered learning approaches and the absence of varied instructional media. In response to this gap, the present study sought to design and evaluate an animated video learning medium grounded in the local Blitar folklore of Bubuksah and Gagang Aking. The research adopted a Research and Development (R&D) approach guided by the ADDIE framework, which encompasses five sequential phases: Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Validation involved a panel of subject matter specialists, media technologists, and language reviewers, as well as classroom practitioners and fourth-grade learners as end users. Data collection relied on observation, in-depth interviews, validation instruments, documentation records, and viewing skill assessments, with quantitative data analyzed descriptively and media effectiveness evaluated through a One-Sample t-Test using IBM SPSS Statistics. Expert validation yielded feasibility ratings of 94% from content validators, 92% from media evaluators, and 95% from language reviewers — all categorized as highly valid. Student performance data further demonstrated a meaningful learning gain, with average scores climbing from 60.00 at the pre-test stage to 90.50 following media implementation. These findings confirm that the animated video based on the Bubuksah and Gagang Aking folklore constitutes an effective, engaging, and contextually appropriate medium for enhancing elementary students' viewing skills, learning engagement, and comprehension of folk narrative content.
