Abstract

Today, in times of increasingly complex public problems and the need for religious references has escalated, there is a spirit to answer this with individual and collective da'wah movements. This condition in the opinion of researchers is very good, but often there is a bias in the basic understanding of who is actually entitled and obliged to convey da'wah (who has the right to prohibit blasphemy) and how the law is actually based on the perspective of the Qur'an. The purpose of this study to explore the interpretation of Ibn Katsîr and M. Quraish Shihâb regarding the obligation of Da'wah and the implications of the sociohistorical background of both. The approach used in this study is qualitative with comparative study method. Data collection techniques in the form of literature and observation studies were analyzed in the form of descriptive data collection techniques with the method of comparative analysis (analytical-comparative method). The results showed that there are differences in the tendency of interpretation as well as interpretation between Ibn Katsîr with M. Quraish Shihâb. Ibn Katsîr directed the obligation of Da'wah (which has the right to prohibit blasphemy) as an individual obligation while M. Quraish shihâb directs the tendency of the interpretation of the obligation as a collective obligation also with some similarities in the interpretation of which still accommodate obligations that are not used as a tendency of interpretation

Abstract

This study concludes that science needs ethical backing in the area of praxis. The development of science in the 20th century as a continuation of the passion of the Copernican revolution must refer to universal values, not just for the sake of science itself. So that in turn, science will benefit humanity. On the other hand, the real ethical foundation has been in the tradition from the beginning by the Qur'an through the holistic-universal messages it contains. In particular, the Qur'an asserts itself as a guide to life, a giver of good news and a warning to mankind. This shows that the qur'anic narrative is a narrative of instructions on how to live a better life by making science an instrument of civilization

Abstract

The Qur’an is a living text that interact to the horizons that surround it. The existence of the subject as a reader and interpreter produces various ways and outputs of understanding. Subjects speaking with the text within the scope of the two interacting are a form of phenomenological activity. Subjects perceive text as a sign pointing to diverse realities. In the study of phenomenology, the phenomenon is not veiled by the curtain of reality resulting from the perception of the subject. Thus, the meanings of the text are not born in a vacuum, but always involve the consciousness of the subject. This shows that the development of understanding and methodology in understanding the Qur’an (text) is a necessity. The text’s horizon will always be in contraction with the subject’s horizon based on the consciousness that grows in the period of time and age.
