Abstract

Garbage is one of the problems in Indonesia that can have a negative impact on the environment and public health. Environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility, including children such as children who are still sitting in elementary education. It is necessary to give understanding and habituation from an early age so that they can become individuals who can maintain environmental cleanliness, starting from building the habit of disposing of waste in its place to being able to reuse waste that can still be used/reprocessed. Ecobricks are plastic bottles filled densely with non-biological waste, namely plastic. Ecobricks are a grassroots solution to plastic waste. Community service activities carried out by students of the Thematic KKN Disaster Resilient Village UPN Veterans East Java group 123 in Wotgalih Village, Yosowilangun District, Lumajang Regency involved students to process ecobrick waste. This community service uses a qualitative approach to the observation method. Collecting data through direct observation, participatory-observation, interviews and door prize distribution.

Abstract

Lumajang is one of the areas on the island of Java that has the risk of an earthquake and tsunami. Lumajang Regency is close to the confluence of the Eurasian and Australian plates with a distance of about 250 km from the coast. For 76 km the Lumajang area from Tempursari District to Yosowilangun is a coastal area that has the character of big and high waves up to about 3 meters. Based on these conditions, it is necessary to make efforts to reduce disaster risk through education so that it can be introduced earlier to all students. The number of fatalities when a disaster occurs can be caused by a lack of preparedness and low knowledge about earthquakes. Madrasah Ibtidayah Riyadus Sholihin is one of the schools located in Kab. Lumajang is precisely in Wotgalih Village. So far, there have been no socialization activities regarding earthquakes and mitigation as well as simulations when an earthquake occurs in schools for students. Therefore, East Java UPN "Veteran" KKN students carry out community service activities, especially for students at school. The activities that have been achieved are the socialization and earthquake simulation that can be followed by all participants enthusiastically and very interactively so that it is hoped that it can be applied in everyday life. This KKN student service activity will increase students' preparedness, knowledge, and skills in saving themselves when an earthquake occurs.

Abstract

Background: Refugia plants can provide SNAP (Shelter, Nectar, Alternative food, and Pollen) for insects. Commonly used refugia plants are marigolds (Tagetes erecta), zinnia (Zinnia elegans), and king's salad (Cosmos caudatus). Planting refugia plants is one way to manipulate the habitat of natural enemies so natural enemy populations increase, and pest populations can be controlled. Abiotic factors like temperature, humidity, pH, and rainfall affect insect populations. Methods: This research was conducted in March–May 2023. The refugia plants used were king's salad and zinnia flowers with a cropping pattern on the edges of the plots and an insect bank system. Sampling data was collected from both fields twice weekly using observation, sticky yellow traps, sweep nets, and light traps. Results: Insect pests and natural enemies from both fields were identified, namely four orders, 11 families, and 13 morphospecies, with 503 insects in the plantations with refugia and 434 without refugia. Conclusions: Species diversity values were 2.12 and 2.08 in plantations with and without refugia, indicating moderate diversity. The Bray-Curtis index for planting insect groups with and without refugia was 0.903, indicating the constituents' composition was the same. Based on the linear regression test results, the temperature and humidity factors affect insect pests' Abundance and natural enemies' Abundance.
