Abstract

Microalgae are a group of autotrophic microorganisms that can live in freshwater and marine ecosystems. Microalgae in peat swamp waters are important to investigate and identify because they are used as aquatic bioindicators and have various potency and applications. This study aims to identify microalgae in peat swamp water in the Universitas Palangka Raya area, Central Kalimantan. This research used a purposive sampling method with two stations. The abiotic factors observed were temperature, dissolved oxygen, water transparency, and pH. Microalgae found were 12 genera (Behind the FMIPA UPR Building) and 6 genera (Jalan B Koetin). Some of the microalgae included Closterium, Micrasterias, Chlorella, Botryococcus, Cosmarium, Euastrum, Pleurotaenium, Chroococcus, Chlorogonium, Euglena, Selenastrum, Zygnema, Anabaena, Thalassionema, Pinnularia, Staunrastrum, and Gonatozygon. Some of them have morphological characteristics and potential in various fields. The abiotic factors in this research showed the normal temperature (29.5 0C and 27 0C), quite low for DO (2.9 mg/L and 4.7 mg/L), low brightness (23.25 and 25 cm), and acidic pH (4). Abiotic factors indicate that the condition of peat swamp water is a reasonably extreme ecosystem but is still suitable for the life of several species of microalgae.

Abstract

ABSTRACTCampus teaching is a program that facilitates students to conduct MBKM programs that focus on improving literacy and numeracy skills in elementary or junior high school students. The purpose of this activity is to provide community service, especially to students at SMP Negeri 5 Kumai, and to add to students' soft skills, instill empathy, and encourage national development by increasing educational motivation in the community. The service method is divided into several stages, namely pre-assignment, assignment, and post-assignment activities. Collaborative Action Plan (RAK) activities consist of strengthening literacy, numeracy, climate change mitigation, and technological adaptation. The RAK activities consisted of revitalizing the library and magazine, reading corners, fifteen-minute literacy, ultrasi games, and memorizing fun multiplication tables. For the topic of digital transformation, emotional inbox activities, writing stories using computers, movie education, and Green School were also carried out. The result of this service was an increase of 3% for literacy and 27% for numeracy. However, this still indicates an improvement in both skills. Therefore, teaching campus activities can be an activity that has real benefits and contributions to education in Indonesia by improving literacy, numeracy, and technology adaptation skills through a student-centered learning approach that is creative, innovative, and fun. Keywords: Teaching Campus; MBKM; Collaborative Action Plans; Literacy; Numeracy.

Abstract

Abstract: Experiments in biology is an important activity in providing real understanding and experience to students. One of the obstacles in the experiment was the lack of schools in sending biology teachers to participate in training activities that can improve their competence. Solution to this problem is to provide training to biology teachers related to several biology experiment topics, such as observation and identification of phytoplankton in peat swamp water. The purpose of this community service was to provide training on the observation and identification of phytoplankton in peat swamp water for high school biology teachers in Palangkaraya to improve practical skill in biology. The methods used in this community service were the presentation of material, discussion, practices, monitoring and evaluation of activities. Practices included sampling activity, observation, and identification of phytoplankton in the laboratory. Training activities were conducted in November 2023 with 14 participants. The results of the training showed an increase in participants' knowledge and skills in sampling and observing peat swamp water phytoplankton with an average of 30 numbers from pretest to post test for all participants.
