Abstract

Microalgae are a group of autotrophic microorganisms that can live in freshwater and marine ecosystems. Microalgae in peat swamp waters are important to investigate and identify because they are used as aquatic bioindicators and have various potency and applications. This study aims to identify microalgae in peat swamp water in the Universitas Palangka Raya area, Central Kalimantan. This research used a purposive sampling method with two stations. The abiotic factors observed were temperature, dissolved oxygen, water transparency, and pH. Microalgae found were 12 genera (Behind the FMIPA UPR Building) and 6 genera (Jalan B Koetin). Some of the microalgae included Closterium, Micrasterias, Chlorella, Botryococcus, Cosmarium, Euastrum, Pleurotaenium, Chroococcus, Chlorogonium, Euglena, Selenastrum, Zygnema, Anabaena, Thalassionema, Pinnularia, Staunrastrum, and Gonatozygon. Some of them have morphological characteristics and potential in various fields. The abiotic factors in this research showed the normal temperature (29.5 0C and 27 0C), quite low for DO (2.9 mg/L and 4.7 mg/L), low brightness (23.25 and 25 cm), and acidic pH (4). Abiotic factors indicate that the condition of peat swamp water is a reasonably extreme ecosystem but is still suitable for the life of several species of microalgae.

Abstract

Ecosystems in Central Kalimantan are generally dominated by peat swamps, including Kereng Bangkirai Village, Sebangau District. Ecotourism is responsible for improving community welfare but still prioritizing the environmental preservation of natural areas found in tourist locations. Education on waste management in the community is still lacking, reflected in the lack of sorting when disposing of household waste to the landfill and residents' habit of burning environmental waste in the form of leaves or dry grass. The Riswandi Farm farmer group uses the results of cutting grass in the Kereng Bangkirai area to be used as compost. However, the limitations of the grass-cutting tools used are an obstacle in producing compost. So it is necessary to apply shredding machine technology to overcome the problem of the amount of organic compost production and produce derivative fertilizer products in other forms.

Abstract

Abstract

The Nyaru Menteng Arboretum area in Central Kalimantan serves as a habitat for approximately 200 Long-Tailed Macaques Macaca fascicularis within its 65.2-hectare area, as recorded in 2024. A lack of food causes presumed M. fascicularis to descend to settlements in search of food, resulting in losses for the people of Nyaru Menteng Arboretum which leads to coexistence. This study aims to identify the types of coexistences that occur between M. fascicularis and villagers. The method used to identify coexistences is a survey method. The survey results explain that the types of coexistences that occur range from stealing side dishes (25%), damaging ceilings (25%) and messing up the kitchen (50%). Human resistance in the form of repellent using slingshots 32%, wood 40%, nets 20% and air rifles 8%. The findings of this study can serve as a reference for managing future coexistences and inform decision-making for effective M. fascicularis management in the Menteng Arboretum Area, Central Kalimantan.   Keywords: Endangered, Indonesian Borneo, interaction, Long-Tailed Monkey, Macaca fascicularis.

Abstract

Vector-borne diseases are influenced by physical, biological, and socio-cultural environmental conditions. Residents of Pahandut Village were chosen as the subjects of service because part of Pahandut Village is located on the edge of the Kahayan River. Therefore, a lot of rubbish carried by the river flows under people's stilt houses and becomes a habitat for mosquitoes, flies, and cockroaches which can transmit diseases to people. Disease vectors can be prevented by keeping the floors of the house clean by using natural ingredients such as lemongrass. Community service activities are expected to increase public knowledge regarding diseases caused by zoonotic vectors, recognize disease-causing insects in the environment, prevent disease vectors, and skills in making lemongrass carbol. Community service participants' knowledge increased as shown by the evaluation of pre-test and post-test scores. Community service participants were 15 people from the Pahandut sub-district with a pre-test average of 36% and a post-test average of 100%. A comparison of the pre-test and post-test scores shows that there is an increase in knowledge after the service activities are carried out. In conclusion, education about preventing disease vectors and the practical production of lemongrass carbole can increase community knowledge and skills in preventing disease vectors.
