Abstract

A volunteer is someone who contributes their time, energy, and skill to meet the needs of a community without any financial benefit from the contribution. Verbal abuse is an utterance towards someone that is considered demeaning, insulting, racist, or degrading using a high-pitched voice, because this form of psychological violence can attack a person's emotional or mental state. Motivation is a person's encouragement in acting to carry out activities to achieve certain goals. The aim of the study is to analyze the relationship between verbal abuse and the motivation to help victims among PMI volunteers in Surabaya. The research design used is a correlational descriptive analysis that analyzes the relationship between verbal abuse and the motivation to help victims of PMI volunteers in Surabaya. The approach in this research is cross-sectional. The sampling technique in this study uses probability sampling. The population in this study are 121 members of KSR PMI Surabaya, with a total sample that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria of 93 people. Data collection uses a questionnaire about verbal abuse that consists of 30 questions, reliability and validity test with a result of 0.0703, and a motivational questionnaire consisting of 30 questions using the Volunteer Function Inventory (VFI) questionnaire. The data is then tested using the Spearman Rho Correlation test. The results showed that the majority of respondents experienced high verbal abuse when helping victims as much as 77.4%. Most of the respondents had a strong motivation when helping victims as much as 36.6%. The results showed that there was a relationship between verbal abuse and motivation to help victims in PMI volunteers in Surabaya with a correlation test showing an r value of 0.513 with a value of <0.001. The high level of verbal abuse on PMI volunteers requires strong motivation. This requires support from family and fellow volunteers who always provide encouragement and strength when helping victims.

Abstract

Sedentary lifestyle has become a significant public health concern worldwide, contributing significantly to the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes (T2DM), and obesity. Characterized by prolonged sitting or low-energy activities, it has been associated with physical and psychological health risks. This literature review examines and synthesizes recent evidence on the relationship between sedentary lifestyle and the development of common comorbidities. A literature review design was employed, sourcing relevant full-text articles published between 2018 and 2025 from databases including ScienceDirect, EBSCOhost, ProQuest, and Google Scholar. Inclusion criteria focused on studies that investigated the association between sedentary lifestyle and adult comorbidities, using quantitative, observational, and meta-analytical methods. The results of this study included eight peer-reviewed studies, including observational, cross-sectional analyses, systematic reviews, and randomized clinical trials. The findings showed a significant association between sedentary lifestyles and a variety of comorbidities, including hypertension, T2DM, and obesity. This literature review confirms that a sedentary lifestyle significantly contributes to the risk of hypertension, T2DM, and obesity. As sedentary lifestyles become increasingly common, particularly among the elderly, it is crucial to implement public health initiatives, encourage active living, and develop culturally appropriate interventions to reduce the impact of associated non-communicable diseases.

Abstract

The incidence of postpartum depression is quite high. The largest percentage occurs when they have their first child, and have a family history of mood disorders. The incidence of postpartum depression is 50 - 60% in mothers when they have their first child, and around 20% in mothers who give birth to subsequent children. This study aims at reviewing and synthesizing the determinants factor of depression among adolescent in rural area. This study design was a systematic review using the PICO framework. This data was carried out from various journal databases 2012-2022, including Scopus, ScienceDirect, PubMed. 16 articles meet the inclusion criteria and meet the qualifications for review. A systematic procedure is used to collect articles, as well as a critical appraisal and data synthesis with qualitative synthesis. The analysis of the literature review found that aspects of findings related to predictors of postpartum depression are as follows: socio-demographic factors (age, socio-economic status, education, risk age group), maternal factors (pregnancy spacing, parity, pregnancy condition, birth experience, postpartum complications), biological factors (hypothalamus function, prolactin, CRH, inflammatory process), psychosocial factors (negative mood, anxiety, unpreparedness, history of depression), cultural factors (children care stress, wisdom), support system (support husband, family support, decision-making patterns). Healthcare professionals should be aware of this phenomenon and strategies such as primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention interventions may be applied. Women should be screened for potential risk factors and depressive symptoms during pregnancy and postpartum periods so that appropriate interventions if needed, can be initiated in a timely fashion.

Abstract
