Abstract

This research examines the construction of Qur'anic women in contemporary tafsir through a thematic and comparative approach to tafsir by Amin al-Harari, Wahbah az-Zuhaili, and Quraish Shihab. The research focuses on four main female figures in the Qur'an: Maryam, Asiyah, Queen Balqis, and Prophet Moses' mother. The findings show that the three mufasirs, despite having different manhajs - creed-centric, academic-fiqh, and contextual-humanist - agree that the greatness of Qur'anic women is determined by the qualities of faith, firmness, tawakkal, intelligence, and moral courage, not by gender or social position. Az-Zuhaili emphasises the legitimacy of female leadership and divine justice, al-Harari emphasises submission and spiritual depth, while Quraish Shihab emphasises contextual relevance and the human dimension. The thematic synthesis reveals that the Qur'anic woman is not a static ideal, but a process of spiritual and moral transformation that is relevant to the challenges of Muslim women today, including leadership inequality, work-family pressures, and identity stigma. The study concludes that contemporary tafsir opens space for a more inclusive, just and applicable understanding of the role of women in Islam.

Abstract

This study aims to trace, collect, and analyze hadiths about azl (traditional contraception) using the takhrij hadith approach in order to obtain normative validity for the practice of birth control in Islam. Although azl is a practice known since the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and was carried out by his companions, its legal discourse still leaves debate in the treasury of fiqh. In the modern context, the issue of contraception is part of the discourse on reproductive health and family ethics that urgently needs to be reviewed based on authentic primary Islamic sources. The method used in this study is qualitative-descriptive based on literature studies with the takhrij hadith approach. The takhrij steps include identifying hadith texts through digital devices, tracking hadith sources in Kutub at-Tis‘ah and musnad books, sanad criticism using classical jarḥ wa ta‘dīl references, matan analysis, and determining the degree of hadith based on the science of muṣṭalaḥ al-ḥadīth. The results of the study found four main lines of hadith about azl originating from the companions of Jabir bin ‘Abdillah, Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri, ‘Abdullāh bin Mas‘ūd, and atsar ‘Umar bin al-Khaṭṭāb. The first two narrations have the degree of ṣaḥīḥ li-dzātihi, one narration is ḥasan li-ghayrihi, and one has the status of ḍa‘īf. These findings indicate that the majority of hadith about azl have strong validity and there is not a single explicit prohibition from the Prophet against the practice. Thus, azl can be understood as a contraceptive practice that is permitted in Islam, as long as it is carried out by agreement and does not aim to eliminate offspring absolutely. This study contributes to strengthening the foundation of hadith in the discourse of contraception fiqh and opens up opportunities for integration between hadith studies, maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah, and the ethical needs of contemporary Muslim families.

Abstract

Child protection is a universal issue that demands serious attention, particularly in the socio-religious context of Muslims, which is based on the values of the hadith. The increasing number of cases of violence, neglect, and exploitation of children in various regions of Indonesia, including in Huta Bahtobu Village, Pematang Siantar City, indicates a gap between normative Islamic teachings on children’s rights and the prevailing social reality. This study aims to analyze children’s rights and protection from the perspective of the hadith and to explore how the community’s understanding and practice of these hadith values are manifested in daily life through a living hadith approach. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews with religious leaders, parents, and the community, and documentation of religious practices that reflect child protection. Data analysis was carried out through stages of reduction, thematic categorization, and interpretation of the meaning of the hadith in the local social context. The results show that the Huta Bahtobu community understands the hadith on children's rights, especially in the dimensions of affection, education, and parental moral responsibility. However, its implementation is often symbolic and has not been fully internalized in the local social and cultural system. The values of the hadith concerning respect for children’s natural instincts, meeting their physical and spiritual needs, and prohibiting violence are practiced through religious activities such as family religious studies, religious study groups, and local traditions that emphasize the role of parents as moral protectors of children. The implications of this research emphasize that strengthening the understanding of the hadith in terms of children’s rights and protection can form the basis for the formation of a more humane and just society in modern society.

Abstract

Ḥadīṡ Nabī is the main source of Islamic teachings after the Al-Qur’ān. A ḥadīṡ that is ṣaḥīḥ in terms of its sanad is not necessarily ṣaḥīḥ in terms of its mata. Sometimes he is weak in terms of his eyes, namely after the faqihs find hidden defects in him. Furthermore, ḥadīṡ Nabī does not only discuss matters of law, worship, muamalah, but ḥadīṡ Nabī also talks about prayers in everyday life. This article aims to determine the authenticity of the ḥadīṡ-ḥadīṡ in the book Kanzun an-Najah wa as-Surūr. The problem in this research is the quality of ḥadīṡ-ḥadīṡ regarding prayer and practice in the book Kanzun an-Najah wa as-Surūr chapter of the Month of Safar and ḥadīṡ’s understanding of prayer and practice in the book Kanzun an-Najah wa as-Surūr chapter of the Month of Safar. This research uses library research with the main reference being the book Kanzun an-Najah wa as-Surūr. The secondary references are the ḥadīṡ books which are included in the al-Tis’ah pole, books, journals, theses, theses, etc. The data collection technique used is the documentation method, namely collecting data based on the things discussed in the form of notes, transcripts, books, magazines, and so on. Meanwhile, in analyzing the data, the techniques used were the mauḍū’ī and naqd al-Sanad and matan methods. The research in this thesis found that the two ḥadīṡ in the Month of Shafar chapter studied had different qualities, the first ḥadīṡ had the quality of ḥasan, while the second ḥadīṡ had the quality of ḍa’īf. Likewise, the understanding of ḥadīṡ regarding prayer at the end of the month of Safar, there are differences of opinion among the ulama, some ulama allow it, such as Shaīkh ‘Abdul Ḥamīd, and others forbid it.

Abstract

The requirement of two female witnesses in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 282 frequently serves as a flashpoint in debates surrounding gender equality within Islamic jurisprudence. This provision is often misconstrued as a permanent devaluation of women's intellectual agency and human dignity. Employing a qualitative library research methodology, this study examines the nuanced interpretations of the verse by comparing four distinct scholarly perspectives. The analysis demonstrates a diverse spectrum of thought: literalist approaches treat the rule as an immutable mandate, classical jurisprudence situates it within judicial prerequisites and civil law boundaries, sociological readings view it as practical advice contextualized by historical periods of limited female economic involvement, and linguistic analyses highlight its intent as a legal safeguard for certainty rather than an assertion of gender hierarchy. Ultimately, the study reveals that the Quran does not institutionalize gender discrimination; rather, the variety of interpretive outcomes illustrates the textual adaptability to evolving contexts and analytical frameworks.
