Abstract

The conversion of mangroves into shrimp ponds occurred in the coastal area of Kampung Beting, Pantai Bahagia Village, Bekasi Regency, West Java Province, Indonesia, in the period 1990–2010. High income from shrimp ponds makes people ignore the ecological functions of mangrove forests, one of which is to prevent abrasion. However, since 2010, the destruction of hundreds of hectares of mangrove forests, worsened by climate change that hits almost the whole world, especially island countries like Indonesia, has submerged the shrimp ponds in Pantai Bahagia Village with sea water. Now, not only the shrimp ponds as their major income have disappeared, but also their living space is also threatened by severe abrasion. Gender inequality and the marginalized role of coastal women also make the socio-economic conditions of the community become worse. This study observes the role of women in Pantai Bahagia Village in responding to environmental and socio-economic problems in their area. This study uses a phenomenological approach, data is collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that women's empowerment plays a role in conserving critical land. Women's responses to environmental problems in their area include: 1) creating changes in women's awareness and behavior as an effort to repair and restore damaged mangrove land, and 2) carrying out activities to protect mangrove plants. Women's responses to socio-economic problems include 1) women's active involvement in productive economic activities 2) Utilization of non-timber mangrove products in processed food and crafts. Finally, this study recommends a concept to address critical coastal land issues, namely by involving women in various activities, both nature conservation and empowerment activities.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Toddlers are the most susceptible to diarrhea because toddlers have a weaker immune system than adults. Diarrhea can occur due to poor sanitation. The type of research uses analytical surveys. The research method used cross sectional, the total population was 338 people, and the sample was 79 people. Using random sampling, data analysis uses the chi-square test. The results of the chi-square test analysis obtained a significant value of toilet ownership of 0.004<0.05, clean water supply of 0.045<0.05. Waste disposal facilities of 0.021<0.05. Waste disposal facilities of 0.012<0.05 Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between household sanitation conditions and the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers in the working area of the Bukit Health Center of Kute Tanyung, Kute Lintang, Delung Asli, Blang Sentang, and Tingkem Asli villages in 2024. It is hoped that the community can improve household sanitation so that the incidence of diarrhea decreases and is free from diseases caused by poor sanitations. Keywords : Sanitations, Diarrhea

Abstract

ABSTRACT The general objective of this study is to examine the relationship between knowledge and ownership of sanitation facilities with diarrhea incidence in the working area of UPTD Puskesmas Lampahan, Bener Meriah District, in 2024. This research is a quantitative analytical study with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consists of families experiencing diarrhea, totaling 118 respondents. The sample size is 91, selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument employed is a questionnaire. Univariate and bivariate analyses are conducted using the chi-square test. The results indicate that the average level of knowledge among respondents is sufficient, with 31 respondents (34.1%) having adequate knowledge. The number of households with sanitation facilities is 54 (59.3%), and those experiencing diarrhea is also 54 (59.3%). Based on the chi-square test results, the p-value for the knowledge variable is (0.001) ≥ (0.05), indicating that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and there is a relationship between knowledge and diarrhea incidence. For sanitation facility ownership, the p-value is (0.000) ≤ (0.05), meaning that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and there is a relationship between sanitation facility ownership and diarrhea incidence. It is recommended that the community enhance their understanding and awareness of the importance of environmental sanitation, including the ownership of sanitation facilities, as these are crucial in preventing disease vectors caused by feces.
