Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is breastfeeding only to infants up to 6 months old without providing food except medicine. The scope of exclusive breastfeeding is still low due to several factors, one of which is knowledge and attitude. It is necessary to do counseling to improve knowledge and attitudes by using one of the media, namely video. Video is an audiovisual medium that stimulates more senses. Objective: Knowing the effect of using video media about exclusive breastfeeding on the motivation of pregnant women at the Wonodadi Health Center. Method: This type of research is quasi experiment with pre test-post test with control design. Results: The results of the study were obtained in the experimental group with video, Pvalue results 0.000 (< α) and in the control group using MCH books, Pvalue results 0.001 (< α). The odd ratio value shows that video media has a greater effect on the motivation of third trimester pregnant women regarding exclusive breastfeeding, which is 28 times higher than the MCH book, the motivation of mothers is only 15 times. Discussion: The motivation of third trimester pregnant women is higher when education is provided with video media because it is easier to understand, not monotonous, interesting images and clear sounds make mothers interested in participating. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that videos are more influential on increasing knowledge and attitudes compared to leaflets, so researchers recommend the use of videos as an alternative media in counseling about exclusive breastfeeding at the Wonodadi Health Center.

Abstract

Abstract

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) are common conditions among adolescent girls, characterized by recurring physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms that significantly affect quality of life and daily functioning. Conventional treatments, such as hormonal therapy and pharmacological agents, often have limitations in long‑term adherence and potential side effects, creating a need for holistic and non‑pharmacological alternatives. This review aims to analyze and synthesize evidence on complementary therapies that are effective in managing PMS and PMDD among adolescents. A comprehensive literature review was conducted using databases including PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2018 and 2025. Search keywords included “premenstrual syndrome,” “adolescents,” “complementary therapy,” “cognitive behavioral therapy,” “mindfulness,” and “emotional freedom technique.” Inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental studies evaluating non-pharmacological interventions with measurable outcomes related to PMS symptom reduction and psychological well-being. Ten studies met the criteria, highlighting the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internet-based CBT (ICBT), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), mindfulness-based programs, and emotion-focused therapy. These interventions significantly reduced PMS and PMDD symptoms (p < 0.05), improved emotional regulation, resilience, and quality of life, and demonstrated effects that persisted up to 1–1.5 months post-intervention. Complementary therapies offer holistic, safe, and accessible strategies for managing PMS in adolescents, addressing both physical and emotional dimensions. Integrating these evidence-based approaches into adolescent health programs could provide sustainable benefits, reduce the burden of PMS while promoting psychological well-being and adaptive coping skills.

Abstract

Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is a common gynecological problem among female adolescents that affects academic performance, daily activities, and quality of life. Non-pharmacological interventions such as warm compresses and lavender aromatherapy are considered safe and practical alternatives for pain relief. Objectives: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of warm compresses and lavender aromatherapy in reducing menstrual pain among female adolescents. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent pretest–posttest control group design was conducted from January to March 2025 at SMK Puspa Bangsa, Banyuwangi. A total of 40 students with a history of dysmenorrhea were selected using proportionate stratified random sampling and divided into two groups: warm compress (n = 20) and lavender aromatherapy (n = 20). Pain intensity was measured before and after the interventions using a validated Numeric Rating Scale. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests for within-group differences and independent t-tests for between-group comparisons. Results: The warm compress group showed a significant reduction in menstrual pain with a greater mean difference than the lavender aromatherapy group. While both interventions were effective, the warm compress group experienced a more pronounced decrease in pain intensity. Independent t-test results confirmed a significant difference in mean pain reduction between the two groups (p-value = 0.000; α<0.05). Conclusions: Warm compresses were more effective than lavender aromatherapy in reducing dysmenorrhea among female adolescents. Warm compresses can be recommended as a simple, safe, and cost-effective non-pharmacological strategy, while lavender aromatherapy may serve as a supportive approach providing relaxation and psychological comfort.

Abstract

Labor pain is a significant challenge for expectant mothers, affecting both the psychological and physiological aspects of pregnant woman. Non-pharmacological pain management approaches, such as aromatherapy, have gained attention for their effectiveness and minimal side effects. This study aimed to assess the impact of bitter orange aromatherapy on reducing labor pain during the first stage of labor at Inpatient Clinic Pratama Ibu Hawa in 2024. A quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test measures was employed, involving 22 multigravida women in active labor. The intervention group received bitter orange aromatherapy via a diffuser for 60 minutes, while the control group received standard care. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). The results indicated a significant reduction in pain intensity after the intervention, with a notable shift from moderate to mild pain in the experimental group (p = 0.000, 95% CI = (5.098-8.876). These findings suggest that bitter orange aromatherapy is an effective non-pharmacological intervention for reducing labor pain, improving maternal comfort, and enhancing the overall labor experience. The study highlights the potential for integrating aromatherapy into routine maternal care, offering an accessible and cost-effective alternative to pharmacological methods. Further research is needed to explore its broader application and long-term benefits in various clinical settings.

Abstract

Uncontrolled screen time duration can negatively impact the development of 5-year-old children. This community service activity aims to provide education on screen time management to support their optimal development at TPA Al Amiin, Kediri City. Through socialization, training, and mentoring methods for parents and caregivers, this initiative increases awareness of the adverse effects of excessive screen time and provides practical strategies for managing it wisely. The effectiveness of the training was evaluated using pre-tests and post-tests, revealing a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge, with an average pre-test score of 60% and a post-test score of 88%. The results suggest that structured education on screen time management plays a crucial role in supporting the optimal development of 5-year-old children and can serve as an intervention model applicable in other early childhood education setting.
