Abstract

Hotel industry has been predicted to enjoy significant increase in occupancy in 2023 following the end of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is definitely the case for hotels in Bali, which has experienced a considerable progress after the outbreak was announced to be over. Therefore, the companies need to upgrade the performance of the employees to respond to the escalating demand. Two of the factors that affect employee performance are training and workplace environment. This research attempts to analyze the influence of training and workplace environment on employee performance at Melia Hotel in Bali. The respondents of this quantitative explanatory research were selected using purposive sampling, resulting in 163 employees. The data was harvested via Likert-scaled questionnaires and was analyzed using multiple linear regression in SPSS version 26. The results of the t test indicate that training significantly influences employee performance. Then, workplace environment indicating its significant impact on employee performance. Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are crucial drivers of sustainable tourism in rural communities, yet their potential is often constrained by structural challenges. This systematic literature review, conducted using the PRISMA protocol covering publications from 2020 to 2025, analyzes empowerment strategies for MSMEs in tourism villages, focusing on Indonesia and the Philippines. The findings reveal that leadership, digital innovation, and capacity development are essential for strengthening economic resilience, environmental preservation, and cultural conservation. Successful cases, such as Ponggok Village (Indonesia) demonstrate how an integrated approach—combining stakeholder collaboration, technology, and training—can enhance operational efficiency and expand market access. However, barriers such as uneven infrastructure, low digital literacy, and dependence on external funding persist, necessitating local policy interventions. This study underscores the need for inclusive governance models that prioritize marginalized groups (e.g., women and rural entrepreneurs) and align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 8, 9, and 11). The limitations of this research include its geographical focus on Southeast Asia and the predominance of short-term case studies. Future research should explore long-term impacts and develop measurable frameworks applicable to diverse socio-economic contexts. This paper contributes to the discourse on inclusive tourism development by providing actionable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and academics to leverage MSMEs as catalysts for sustainable rural transformation.

Abstract

Indonesia is rapidly emerging as an international sport‑tourism destination, yet research on Sustainable Human Resource Management (S‑HRM) in this sector remains limited. Following PRISMA 2020, we conducted a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and bibliometric mapping (VOSviewer) on publications from 2020–2025 retrieved from Scopus, Publish or Perish, and Consensus AI. From 271 initial records, 20 peer‑reviewed articles met inclusion criteria and were synthesized qualitatively (NVivo) and quantitatively (bibliometrics). Findings show training and development dominate HRM discussions, while performance appraisal, compensation, and career pathways are underdeveloped. HRM topics are peripheral in the sport‑tourism literature, which concentrates on destination marketing and infrastructure. The review identifies geographic bias toward Java–Bali, a shortage of longitudinal legacy studies, and inconsistent HRM outcome metrics. We propose a conceptual S‑HRM model emphasizing long‑term capacity building, green training, and integration of local wisdom to avoid “white elephant” outcomes. Policy recommendations include national legacy targets, modular certification programs, and mandatory G‑HRM elements in event licensing.
