Abstract

The availability and usability of a smartphone application in Indonesia for preventing anemia, particularly for adolescents, are understudied due to the large number of health applications available for hematologic diseases. This research aims to provide a comprehensive overview of a mobile application development process to prevent anemia among adolescents and test its usability to the end user. The study analyzed the usability of a hybrid application called "AneMia-Prev" at a junior high school in Serang, Banten, Indonesia. The application was developed through conducting a content review, creating a prototype, and undergoing expert development. The usability was assessed by 15 adolescents using a Think Aloud and Smartphone Usability questionnaire. Meanwhile, data analysis was conducted using Jaspers' iterative 3-cycle model. The AneMia_Prev (TA) application was developed using server-client architecture, MySQL database, Apache Tomcat, and Spring Framework. A usability test was conducted on 15 female end users, with a mean age of 16.8 years and 60.0% of them in grade 8. The application received an overall usability average of 112.5 points, indicating good usability. The study demonstrates the high usability of the prototype, indicating its effectiveness, efficiency, and satisfaction, suggesting that future research could use TA methods with larger sample sizes

Abstract

Patient safety is a global issue, especially when patients are in hospitals. The implementation of patient safety in hospitals requires the role of nurses as the most dominant health workers and directly meet patients for 24 hours, therefore it is necessary to see the extent of the role of nurses in preventing patient safety incidents. The purpose of this study was to identify the results of research on the implementation of patient safety by nurses in hospitals. The method used is a literature review, using an electronic database identified from Pubmed, Google Scholar, Google and Gray literature (National Library of Indonesia) with keywords: patient safety, compliance, implementation of patient safety by nurses. The inclusion criteria in this study were the implementation of patient safety carried out by nurses, the research design was qualitative and quantitative, the study used quantitative or qualitative methods, empirical papers in English or Indonesian published between 2018-2020. The articles collected were nine papers which were synthesized narratively. The results found four papers on the implementation of patient safety, one paper on the use of surgical safety checklist, two papers on reducing the risk of infection, one paper on handover and one paper on reducing the risk of falls. The results of this literature review found various innovations carried out by nurses in implementing patient safety in hospitals. These innovations can be used as a reference for hospitals as innovations in improving the quality of service that prioritizes patient safety as an aspect of patient satisfaction while in the hospital.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a persistent and widespread chronic disease, posing a significant global health challenge and ranking as a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Indonesia, in particular, bears the fourth-highest TB burden globally, especially within the South-East Asia (SEA) region. Alarmingly, TB incidence rates increased by 13% from 2020 to 2021. This research utilized a systematic review methodology, sourcing data from four reputable English databases: PubMed, Google Scholar, OpenAlex, and Dimensions. Both quantitative and qualitative studies published in the last five years (2019-2023) were included. A comprehensive search strategy across the specified databases yielded a total of 1,201 articles. These articles underwent meticulous screening, resulting in six articles being deemed relevant for inclusion in the review. The inclusion criteria focused on studies examining the association between family support and self-care adherence among TB patients. The systematic review identified and analyzed these six pertinent articles, highlighting the pivotal role of family support in influencing TB patients’ adherence to self-care during treatment. Enhanced family support was found to correlate positively with improved adherence levels among TB sufferers. In summary, this literature review underscores the critical importance of family support in enhancing self-care adherence for individuals undergoing tuberculosis treatment. The positive correlation between robust family support and improved adherence levels emphasizes the influential role of the family unit in the overall well-being and treatment outcomes of TB patients.

Abstract

Background: Temper tantrums are a behavior that often occurs in preschool children. This behavior is characterized by excessive emotional expression and uncontrolled behavior, arising from the children’s frustration and anger. Purpose: To identify whether there is a relationship between parenting and parental communication with temper tantrums in preschool children. Methods: The research design used in this study is cross sectional. This research was conducted in year of 2023 with a total of 65 respondents using a total sample technique. The instruments in this study were questionnaires on parenting, parental communication, and temper tantrums which were adopted from previous research and had been tested for validity and reality. The data analysis used was the Spearman correlation test because the data was not normally distributed. Results: The results of this study showed that there is no significant relationship between parenting and parental communication with temper tantrums in preschool children. Conclusions: The important role of parents in providing good parenting in shaping preschool children's behavior. The better the parenting and parental communication, the better the handling of temper tantrums in preschool children. It is recommended for future researchers to add variables of emotional intelligence and mother's level of knowledge regarding temper tantrums in preschool children.

Abstract

Schizophrenia relapse after recovery remains a significant challenge, with multiple factors contributing to its occurrence. Understanding these factors is essential for their effective prevention and management. This narrative review aimed to identify and synthesize the factors contributing to relapse in patients with schizophrenia after recovery. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, and PsycINFO databases to identify relevant studies. The inclusion criteria were peer-reviewed articles in English, focusing on relapse factors among patients with schizophrenia. Data from the eligible studies were synthesized into thematic domains. A total of fifteen studies spanning diverse populations and designs were included. The key contributing factors identified were as follows: 1) Biological: Medication non-adherence, substance use, and neurobiological predispositions. 2) Psychological: High-stress levels, inadequate coping mechanisms, and comorbid mental health conditions. Limited social support, stigma, and dysfunctional family dynamics. 3) Environmental: Socioeconomic challenges and barriers to healthcare access. Trends have indicated gaps in understanding the interactions among these factors and the lack of culturally tailored interventions. These findings highlight the multifactorial nature of schizophrenia relapse, emphasizing the need for integrated, multidisciplinary approaches to prevention and intervention. Holistically addressing individual, familial, and systemic factors is crucial for reducing relapse rates. This review underscores the importance of tailored, patient-centered interventions and systemic policy changes to address the complex contributors to schizophrenia relapse, thereby improving patient outcomes.

Abstract

Knowledge is a convention in forming an action in a nurse which greatly influences the performance of the nurse herself in implementing and carrying out actions for patient safety in the hospital. One of the ways in which the implementation of patient safety is to ensure that incidents that threaten patient safety do not occur or that there is the potential to result in injury to patients that should not occur. The aim of this literature review is to understand and describe the situation regarding nurses' knowledge of patient safety incidents. The review of this paper is the result of a literature study in the form of analysis using the systematic mapping study method through searches from Google Scholar which determined 6 national journals. The results of the study show that good nurse knowledge will influence the performance of nursing care which has an impact on patient safety incidents. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that there is a correlation between nurses' knowledge of patient safety incidents and commitment which is very necessary in efforts to build patient safety. Suggestion: it is hoped that we will not only research the relationship between knowledge and patient safety incidents but also nurses' compliance in implementing patient safety.
