Abstract

Stroke is a major cause of long-term disability resulting in the inability to perform daily activities (ADL). Various daily activity assessment scales have been used for stroke patients including the Barthel Index. This study aims to determine the level of dependence of stroke patients based on the Barthel index score in daily living activities. This research is a descriptive study, where the research sample is stroke patients in the working area of the Kedundung Public Health Center, Mojokerto City, totaling 60 people using a consecutive sampling technique. Data collection using the Barthel index instrument to assess the ability of ADL. Data were analyzed using frequency distribution. The results showed that most of the respondents had mild dependence, namely 78.4% and 13.3% of respondents were independent in ADL abilities. The severity of the respondent's dependence on performing ADL ability also depends on the severity of stroke symptoms. Patients with mild stroke may also experience ADL dependence in daily life. Appropriate and effective evaluation of ADL in stroke patients can be used as a basis for decision-making in treatment, rehabilitation, and nursing actions.

Abstract

RANGE OF MOTION (ROM) EXERCISE ASSISTANCE IN STROKE PATIENTS. Stroke is the second leading cause of death and the third leading cause of disability in the world after heart disease and cancer in both developed and developing countries. Stroke occurs suddenly and causes symptoms, including paralysis of the face or limbs, speech is not fluent, speech is not clear (pelo), changes in consciousness, visual disturbances, and others. Stroke sufferers who experience disorders of the extremities require improvement of extremity motor skills through rehabilitation programs, one of which is range of motion (ROM) exercises. This community service activity is carried out through mentoring range of motion (ROM) exercises for stroke patients. ROM exercises are given using a cylindrical grip or a cylindrical tool made of wood. This tool is used by stroke patients for grasping exercises. When giving ROM exercises, stroke patients are accompanied by their families because this ROM exercise is not only done once but is carried out for 1 week with a frequency of 2 times a day (morning and evening) so it is hoped that there will be support from the family in helping stroke sufferers do this exercise. The results of community service activities showed that stroke patients experienced changes or increased muscle strength scales. Finger muscle strength can be increased by using cylindrical grip range of motion exercises. Stroke sufferers need to learn and apply ROM exercises in an effort to increase the scale of muscle strength.

Abstract

Background: As frontline health service providers, nurses are important in directly caring for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nurses are very vulnerable to infection, and this causes ongoing anxiety and ultimately causes burnout. Aims: This study aims to identify factors that may lead to nurse burnout in various East Java healthcare facilities. Methods: This research used correlational analysis with a cross-sectional approach. The approach of purposive sampling was applied to select nurses from various health units in East Java with 200 respondents. The Maslach Burnout Syndrome Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) questionnaire was used for burnout variables and questionnaires for efficacy, job stress, and fear variables. Data analysis used multiple logistic regression with the ENTER method. Results: The findings indicated that the variable that had a significant relationship with burnout was work stress. The Odds Ratio (OR) analysis results for the job stress variable are 2.860, meaning that respondents who experience high job stress have a 3-fold risk of experiencing burnout compared to those who do not experience high stress. Conclusion: Job stress is predicted to be the most dominant variable causing burnout during the COVID-19 pandemic. Respondents with high job stress are more at risk of experiencing burnout.
