Abstract

Purpose – This research aims to investigate the critical role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in character education at Mutiara Hikmah Vocational High School (SMK) during the 2022/2023 academic year. Within the context of globalization, which has significantly influenced moral values in Indonesia, this study seeks to address the noticeable decline in student discipline and morality. By focusing on the contributions of PAI teachers, the study aims to highlight effective strategies for enhancing student character development, shaping individuals who are intelligent, independent, and morally upright. Design/methods/approach – A descriptive qualitative methodology was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of the dynamics at Mutiara Hikmah Vocational High School (SMK). This research involved participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis. Data were collected from July 1 to August 20, 2023, through daily observations, interviews with PAI teachers, the principal, and other teachers, as well as analysis of school documents such as academic records and activity reports. Thematic analysis was used to identify key themes and patterns related to character education. Findings – The findings indicate that PAI teachers play a crucial role in instilling discipline and moral values through classroom instruction and extracurricular activities such as congregational prayers and Qur'an literacy sessions. However, challenges such as inconsistent disciplinary standards and limited parental involvement were noted. The study also highlights the need for improved facilities and ongoing training for teachers to support character education. Research implications – The results suggest that a holistic approach involving collaboration among teachers, parents, and the community is essential for effective character education. Policymakers and educators should prioritize the development of comprehensive character education programs that integrate cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of such programs and the specific contributions of various extracurricular activities.

Abstract

The halal industry in Indonesia is experiencing significant growth, with an increasing number of business actors involved, including within the pesantren environment. Pesantren have great potential to develop entrepreneurship through creative thinking skills. However, there are challenges in optimizing entrepreneurial creativity among santri. This study aims to explore the influence of creative thinking skills in developing entrepreneurial creativity in halal industry SMEs based in Bobos Cirebon Islamic boarding schools. This research provides novelty by examining the relationship between creative thinking skills and entrepreneurship development in pesantren within the context of the halal industry. The method used is qualitative research with a case study approach, involving in-depth interviews with SME managers and students involved in the halal industry. The results show that creative thinking skills play a crucial role in driving product innovation, solving business problems, and creating new opportunities within halal industry SMEs. Additionally, social support factors and entrepreneurship training in pesantren also strengthen entrepreneurial creativity. In conclusion, the ability to think creatively can be key to developing entrepreneurial creativity in pesantren and increasing the competitiveness of SMEs in the halal industry sector. The social implication of this study is the importance of integrating creativity and entrepreneurship training into the pesantren curriculum to produce creative entrepreneurs who can contribute to the development of the halal industry.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of classroom discipline and work environment on the performance of Madrasah Tsanawiyah teachers, while developing the conceptual Discipline–Environment Symbiosis Model (DESM) within the context of Islamic education. Employing a convergent mixed-methods design, quantitative data were collected from 210 teachers using standardized questionnaires and analyzed through Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Qualitative data were obtained via in-depth interviews and thematically analyzed. Quantitative findings indicate that both classroom discipline and the work environment have a significant positive effect on teacher performance (p < 0.05), with classroom discipline having the most significant impact. Qualitative insights reveal that procedural consistency, collegial support, and alignment with Islamic values are key factors in enhancing performance. The integration of both data strands resulted in the DESM, which emphasizes the synergy between effective classroom management and a supportive work environment as prerequisites for successful teaching and learning. This model offers theoretical contributions to value-based educational management and practical implications for policymakers and school leaders in designing interventions to improve teacher performance. Future research is recommended to test the DESM across different educational levels and cultural contexts to broaden its external validity.

Abstract

Pendidikan karakter dianggap sebagai hal yang penting untuk diberikan kepada siswa di sekolah dasar. Sebagai institusi yang memiliki peran penting dalam membentuk karakter anak-anak, sekolah harus mampu memberikan pendidikan karakter yang efektif agar siswa dapat menjadi individu yang berkarakter baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali informasi yang lebih mendalam tentang implementasi pendidikan karakter di sekolah dasar melalui pendekatan kualitatif. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif yang bertujuan untuk memahami implementasi pendidikan karakter di dua Sekolah Dasar Negeri yang ada di Kota Cirebon. Subjek penelitian meliputi guru, siswa, dan orang tua di kedua sekolah tersebut. Teknik pengambilan data yang digunakan meliputi wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan studi dokumen. Data yang telah terkumpul dianalisis melalui teknik analisis tematik dengan tahapan pengkodean, pengelompokan, dan interpretasi data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Sekolah Dasar Negeri A dan B memiliki pendekatan yang berbeda dalam melaksanakan pendidikan karakter. Adapun beberapa faktor internal, antara lain: kepemimpinan yang baik, komitmen guru dalam melaksanakan pendidikan karakter, sumber daya yang tersedia untuk pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter, dan beberapa faktor eksternal, meliputi: dukungan orang tua siswa, kurikulum pendidikan karakter yang jelas dari pemerintah, kondisi sosial dan lingkungan sekitar sekolah.
