Abstract

Stunting or dwarfism is a chronic malnutrition problem caused by a lack of nutritional intake for a long time and is not caused by hormonal disorders or certain diseases. Data collected by SSGI West Sumatra in 2021 was recorded by the Solok District Health Service. In 2021, the working area of the Sungai Lasi Community Health Center found 99 cases (13.75%) of stunting, including the highest in Solok Regency. The aim of this research is to determine the factors that influence the incidence of stunting among toddlers in the working area of the Sungai Lasi Community Health Center, Solok Regency. This research design is an observational analytic with a control design. The population of this study were all toddlers in the working area of the Sungai Lasi Community Health Center who were divided into two groups, namely the case group, namely toddlers who experienced stunting and the control group, namely toddlers who did not experience stunting. The sampling technique uses porpusive sampling. This research data was analyzed using SPSS. To analyze bivariate data using the chi square test and multivariate data using logistic regression. The results of this research show that parenting and sanitation patterns are related to the incidence of stunting with a p value <0.05. Birth weight, exclusive breastfeeding, immunization, history of infectious diseases and allocation of use of household funds did not have a significant relationship where the p value was >0.05.

Abstract

Heat stress is a significant concern in dairy cattle production, even in high-altitude areas typically associated with cooler climates. This study investigated the temporal and spatial variations of the Temperature-Humidity Index (THI), air temperature, and relative humidity at a high-altitude dairy farm during the rainy season in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Environmental data were collected bi-hourly from 08:00 to 16:00 at three different locations: outside the pen, inside a pen equipped with fan ventilation, and inside a pen without fan ventilation. ANOVA and Tukey post-hoc tests revealed significant differences across both time and location. The highest THI levels were recorded outside the pen during midday (12:00–14:00), with a mean of 80.18 ± 3.76, compared to 76.17 ± 1.96 in the fan-ventilated pen and 74.96 ± 1.88 in the non-ventilated pen. Notably, there were no significant differences in THI between the two indoor environments, indicating that fan ventilation had limited effectiveness. All indoor THI values reflected moderate heat stress. Additionally, Pearson correlation analysis revealed a strong negative correlation between temperature and humidity across all locations (r = -0.88 to -0.97; p < 0.05). These findings highlight the limitations of current ventilation systems and emphasize the urgent need for improved microclimate management strategies in high-altitude dairy farming.

Abstract

The Nuhayrun MSME in Nagari is a community-based enterprise that originated from the activities of the Taman Pendidikan Al-Qur’an (TPA) in Korong Patalangan, Padang Pariaman Regency. To enhance income and economic self-reliance among local residents, the enterprise has expanded its stingless bee (Galo-galo) farming into an agro-edutourism model. This community service program aims to increase the income of Nuhayrun MSME through improved production and optimized business management. The implemented methods include the addition of Heterotrigona itama and Trigona laeviceps colonies, cultivation of nectar-rich forage plants such as Calliandra and Clitoria ternatea, development of edutourism packages, human resource training, and optimization of digital promotional media. The results of the program indicate enhanced managerial awareness among partners, an increase in productive bee colonies, and the development of educational materials and promotional content that support the enterprise's image as an Islamic-based agro-edutourism center.

Abstract

This study investigates the challenges and opportunities surrounding the decline in local pasteurized whole dairy milk consumption in Indonesia, focusing on West Sumatra. Despite potential health benefits, factors such as limited availability, storage challenges, and concerns about taste and product quality have hindered the adoption of whole milk as a mixing ingredient in contemporary beverages. Through a survey of beverage outlets in Padang City and analyzing consumer preferences, this research identifies critical barriers businesses face and proposes interventions to address them. These interventions include improving milk accessibility, providing business educational programs, promoting taste and quality benefits, supporting recipe development, conducting market research, and collaborating with suppliers. By addressing these challenges, businesses can expand consumer choice, stimulate demand, and drive growth in the whole milk-based beverage market, ultimately benefiting local dairy farmers and public health in Indonesia.
