Abstract

Population growth accompanied by activities in all fields affects the quantity and quality of waste produced. Community patterns and culture in managing waste currently still follow the old paradigm of collect-transport-dispose. This results in a buildup of waste which can shorten the life of the final landfill site (TPA) and impact the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to know the public's perception and participation in waste management to reduce the volume of waste. This research aims to determine and analyze the relationship between public perception and participation in household waste management. This research was conducted in the work area of the Waste Management Technical Implementation Unit, Tumpang District, Malang Regency. This research uses a quantitative approach supported by qualitative descriptive data collected through surveys and questionnaires. Based on research, it shows that the public's perception of household waste management is cumulatively positive and no negative perceptions were found. This means that there is no rejection from the community towards waste management efforts, but this positive perception is not supported by community participation. Abstract

Fly ash is the primary non-hazardous waste generated during the electricity production process in coal-fired steam power plants, such as thermal power stations (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Uap - PLTU) Paiton. Tests of fly ash characteristics have shown that it contains beneficial compounds, including silicon (Si), aluminum (Al), iron (Fe), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), and potassium (K), which can serve as valuable nutrients for plants. This study aims to assess the advantages of incorporating fly ash into compost as a mixture for the growth of mustard plants. Utilizing a quantitative approach, the research involved monitoring the height and leaf count of the test plants. The preparation of fly ash-based compost (FABA) was accomplished by blending fly ash with compost fertilizer in a 1:1 ratio. Five different compositions of planting media mixed with FABA compost were evaluated: K1 (0%) as the control, K2 (25%), K3 (50%), K4 (75%), and K5 (100%), with five replications for each. The results indicated that the most favorable plant height growth occurred with a mixture containing 25% compost-fly ash, yielding an average plant height of 11.45 cm and an average of 9 leaves per plant. An ANOVA test performed on the research data confirmed a significant difference attributed to the inclusion of fly ash in the compost mixture. When appropriately utilized, fly ash can provide farmers with a solution to reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers, thereby promoting more environmentally friendly agricultural practices.

Abstract

ABSTRACTRegional resilience is a key component in supporting national resilience through stable food security. Cavendish bananas have significant potential as a leading commodity with growing domestic and international demand. However, the development of Cavendish banana cultivation in Indonesia still faces significant challenges, such as the attack of Fusarium wilt Tropical Race 4 (TR4), dependence on a single variety, and low adoption of modern agricultural technologies. This study aims to analyze the influence of farmer empowerment in Cavendish banana cultivation to strengthen regional resilience. Data collection was carried out through an in-depth literature review of various sources related to farmer empowerment and regional resilience based on Cavendish banana cultivation. SWOT analysis was used to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in farmer empowerment in Cavendish banana cultivation. The results indicate that farmer empowerment contributes to increased income, diversification of processed products, and strengthening agribusiness competitiveness. However, main challenges such as dependence on a single variety and vulnerability to diseases need to be addressed. This study suggests diversifying banana varieties, adopting modern agricultural technologies such as tissue culture, and strengthening government policies to improve farmers' capacity and biosecurity management. This approach is expected to create a sustainable agricultural system that is adaptive to environmental and market changes.
