Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine the impact of the Think-Pair-Share strategy on students' speaking skill. The research method employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. Pre-test and post-test were used as instruments in this study to measure the development of students' speaking abilities. The sample size for both the controlled and experimental classes consisted of 25 students. The results of this research depict significant findings. The consistent use of the Think-Pair-Share strategy led to a meaningful improvement in the speaking abilities of the tenth-grade students at MAS Dayah Darul Ihsan. During the research period, students showed a noticeable enhancement in their ability to communicate more confidently and effectively. This is evidenced by the final scores in the experimental class, which were 72.92, while the controlled class scored 56.88. Therefore, it can be concluded that by providing opportunities for students to interact, discuss, and share ideas, the use of this strategy not only enhances their speaking abilities but also boosts their self-confidence in communication. Thus, the Think Pair Share strategy holds great potential for improving students' speaking abilities in various educational settings.

Abstract

The increasing demand for online learning learning has led to its widespread adoption across Indonesia, influencing all levels of education. This sudden shift has pushed educators to quickly adapt to digital technologies, primarily relying on internet-based platforms and email communication. The rapid transition to online learning has created opportunities for pedagogical innovation but also introduced significant challenges, particularly in English language education. This study investigates the obstacles encountered by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) lecturers in implementing online learning. Using a quantitative research approach, data were collected from eight EFL lecturers teaching at both governmental and private universities in Aceh, Indonesia. The data were obtained through online questionnaires, providing insights into the various constraints experienced by these lecturers. The primary challenges reported include a lack of meaningful interaction between lecturers and students, suboptimal learning and evaluation processes, and difficulties in teaching skills-based material online. Other issues highlighted were students' limited understanding of the content, inconsistent internet connection, student disengagement from assignments, lecturer fatigue, and inadequate access to learning resources and support tools. This research provides a comprehensive overview of the barriers faced by EFL lecturers in transitioning to online teaching, offering valuable insights for improving the design and delivery of online education in similar contexts.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the primary factors contributing to high school students' anxiety when speaking English and to identify strategies that can help improve their confidence. This study employs a qualitative design with a case study approach, focusing on students at SMA 1 Kuta Baro. The sample for this study consists of six individuals selected using purposive sampling technique. And data was collected through semi structured interviews and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman (1994) framework. The findings reveal that the main causes of students' anxiety when speaking English include fear of speaking in public, lack of solutions for managing self-anxiety, and concerns about being mocked by peers. Additionally, students face difficulties due to forgetting vocabulary and fearing mispronunciations, which are often exacerbated by poor study habits and a strong Acehnese accent. These factors contribute to their struggles with speaking English fluently, frequently leading to reluctance to speak in public out of fear of making mistakes or disappointing their audience. Identified strategies to help students overcome this anxiety include expanding vocabulary, building self-confidence, preparing before speaking, using relaxation techniques, and enhancing knowledge. This research may serve as a reference for future studies on similar issues. Further research is encouraged to include classroom observations to better understand students' anxiety management and to refine interview techniques to gather more comprehensive responses
