Abstract

Purse seine is a fishing tool used to catch surface fish that are grouped and pulled towards the light. It works by encircling schools of fish with a net to create a vertical wall that blocks the fish's ability to move horizontally. The aim of the research is to find out how the speed of pulling the drawstring (purse line) affects the number of fish caught in Sampang waters. The research method used was an experimental method, namely by conducting experiments and monitoring the treatment carried out on purse seine fishing gear on mackerel fish caught in Sampang waters. The results of test 1 show that the results of catching mackerel fish in the catches from 3 treatments and 9 repetitions were very significantly different, so it can be concluded that from the results of the fishing experiment with a purse seine, drawstring speed had a very significantly different effect.

Abstract

Based on the results of this study, the following conclusions can be drawn: 1. The results of the analysis of the influence of the type of gill net mesh on lobster catches, the difference in mesh size of gill nets (gillnets) 1.5 inches and 2.25 inches significantly affects the size of lobsters (weight (Kg), total number (kg) of fish caught in the waters of Seluma Regency. 2. The size of the lobster caught is greatly influenced by the size of the gill net mesh mess size, the size of the 1.5 inch mess size gets lobsters with a size of 50-99 grams with a total of 42.0 kg or 14% of the total catch, while the bigger the lobster, the easier it is to avoid the net that can make them get caught, the smallest results were obtained from the 1.5 inch mess size, namely 23.80 kg or only 10% with a lobster size of more than 150 grams. While for the 2.25 inch mess size, the least number of lobsters was obtained from lobsters with a size of 50-99 grams because with that size, the lobster can easily avoid and the highest lobster catch results obtained as much as 76.10 kg or 25% of the total lobster catch with the largest size at 100-149 gr. 3. The best gill net mesh size used refers to the basic size of the target catch, the best gill net used is a mesh size of 2.25 inches, because this size net filters small lobsters to escape and catches large lobsters to be caught and can be traded because it does not violate existing regulations.

Abstract

Purse seine fishing gear is a type of fishing equipment consisting primarily of a large net, designed to catch both large and small pelagic fish. This study aimed to (1) determine the effect of time differences—morning and evening—on the catch of flying fish using mini purse seine fishing gear, and (2) identify the composition and dominant species caught in each fishing period. The research was conducted at Banda Neira Pier, Banda District, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku, Indonesia. An experimental fishing method was applied, and data were analyzed using the Two Sample t-Test. Fishing operations were carried out over 16 trips, equally distributed between morning and evening sessions. The total recorded catch comprised 15,078 kg of mackerel (Rastrelliger sp.), 4,017 kg of skipjack (Katsuwonus pelamis), 18,743 kg of deho (Euthynnus affinis), and 45,601 kg of flying fish (Decapterus sp.). In the morning, the total catch reached 36,005 kg, dominated by flying fish, whereas in the evening, it was 50,250 kg, also dominated by flying fish. Statistical analysis using the Two Sample t-Test focused on the dominant species, flying fish, and revealed a p-value of <0.05. This indicates a significant difference in the composition of the catch between morning and evening fishing activities. The findings suggest that fishing time plays a crucial role in catch volume, particularly for flying fish, with evening fishing showing higher yields. These results can be valuable for optimizing fishing strategies, improving efficiency, and supporting sustainable fisheries management in Banda Neira and similar pelagic fishing grounds.

Abstract

Capture fisheries are one of the most contributing sectors in producing fishery products. The fourfinger threadfin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) is one of the key commodities in the capture fisheries sector of Pasuruan City. The catch yield of this species is influenced by the mesh size of the gillnet used. This study aimed to determine the effect of different mesh sizes on the catch yield of fourfinger threadfin and to identify the most effective mesh size. The research was conducted using an experimental fishing method with a Randomized Block Design (RBD) comprising three gillnet mesh size treatments: 1.75 inches, 2.5 inches, and 4 inches, with nine fishing trips. Data on catch weight and number were analyzed using a One-Way ANOVA followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The ANOVA results showed an F-value of 10.083 with a significance level of 0.001 (p-value < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in the catch weight of fourfinger threadfin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) among the mesh size treatments. This finding suggests that mesh size has a significant effect on catch weight, with the 2.5-inch mesh size being the most effective for catching fourfinger threadfin in the Madura Strait, as it produced the optimal catch weight compared to 1.75-inch and 4-inch mesh sizes.

Abstract

Bluru Kidul Village is an area located near the northeastern coast of Sidoarjo, where its geographical position provides significant benefits for the community. Consequently, the majority of residents work as fishermen and live side by side with the marine ecosystem. Due to the existence of Bluru Kidul Village, Sidoarjo City is often referred to as a fisheries or coastal city. The fish resources in these waters are dominated by small pelagic fish, large pelagic fish, and demersal fish. One of the most widely used fishing gears is the gill net. This study applied treatments with soaking durations of 2 hours, 3 hours, and 4 hours. The objectives of this research were to identify the composition of gill net catches, analyze the effect of different soaking times on gill net catches, and determine the optimal soaking duration for catching Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger) using gill nets. Data analysis was conducted using statistical methods, including analysis of variance (ANOVA) and normality tests to ensure data suitability. To determine whether soaking duration had a significant effect, a further statistical test, namely the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test, was applied to identify which soaking time produced the best catch of Indian mackerel. The results indicated that there were significant differences in catch variables between the 4-hour treatment and the 3-hour and 2-hour treatments, whereas the difference between the 3-hour and 2-hour treatments was not significant. This finding demonstrates that the 4-hour soaking duration resulted in significantly different catch outcomes compared to the 3-hour and 2-hour durations, but no significant difference was observed between the 3-hour and 2-hour treatments.
