Abstract

This study investigates the application of David B. Resnik's ethical principles—honesty, objectivity, integrity, carefulness, and openness—in academic writing and research among students. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, surveys and student paper analyses were conducted to measure awareness, adherence, and challenges. The results indicate that 95% of students are aware of general ethical principles in academic writing, yet only 70% are familiar with Resnik’s specific framework, leaving 30% unaware of these detailed concepts. Regarding practice, 100% of respondents consistently cited sources correctly, but 66% admitted to paraphrasing without proper attribution, showing gaps between ethical knowledge and application. Challenges identified include maintaining honesty (51%), avoiding plagiarism (29%), ensuring openness (11%), and minimizing bias (9%), often influenced by external pressures and resource limitations. To address these issues, students suggested practical solutions such as workshops, seminars, and digital guides to enhance understanding and compliance with ethical standards. This study emphasizes the importance of ethics education, institutional policy enhancements, and accessible resources to strengthen the implementation of academic integrity, bridging the gap between awareness and consistent ethical practice.

Abstract

This study investigates impoliteness strategies used in the YouTube comment section of Gibran Rakabuming's video entitled "Generasi Muda, Bonus Demografi, dan Masa Depan Indonesia." Using a qualitative approach and Culpeper's (2005) impoliteness framework, the researchers analyzed 50 purposively selected comments. The study identifies various strategies such as bald-on-record impoliteness, sarcasm/mock politeness, positive impoliteness, and negative impoliteness. The findings reveal that bald-on-record and sarcasm are the most frequent strategies used, often driven by political dissatisfaction and emotional expression. This study aims to determine the most dominant impoliteness strategy employed by netizens and contributes to understanding digital discourse in Indonesian political contexts, highlighting the role of anonymity and group identity in shaping online communication.

Abstract

In the digital era, YouTube has become a powerful platform for sharing knowledge, shaping perspectives, and encouraging critical engagement. This study explores how multimodal elements—verbal, visual, and audio—construct meaning in the educational video “Kalau Kamu Mau Punya Critical Thinking, Jangan Skip Obrolan Ini!” from the Suara Berkelas channel. Using a qualitative case study approach, the research interprets how these modes work together to support critical thinking. Data were collected through video observation, transcription, and documentation of multimodal features, then analyzed thematically using Kress and van Leeuwen’s multimodal framework and Facione’s critical thinking model. The findings show that the verbal mode structures logical arguments and rhetorical appeals, the visual mode emphasizes meaning through gestures, expressions, and text overlays, while the audio mode builds emotional engagement through tone, pauses, and background music. Together, these modes create a coherent and persuasive discourse that not only informs but also invites viewers to reflect critically. The study contributes theoretically to the understanding of multimodality in digital education and practically provides insights for educators and content creators to design more interactive, reflective, and engaging educational content.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital connectivity in Indonesia has increased exposure to identity-based cybercrime, including the creation of fake TikTok accounts. With internet penetration reaching over 78 percent of the population and more than 139 million active social media users, digital platforms have become central to economic and social interaction (APJII, 2023; We Are Social & Meltwater, 2024). This study analyzes the legal qualification of TikTok account forgery within Indonesian criminal law and examines whether such conduct fulfills the elements of criminal liability under Article 35 of the Law on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law). Using a normative juridical method with statutory and conceptual approaches, the research applies grammatical, systematic, and teleological interpretation to assess the structure of the offense. The findings demonstrate that TikTok accounts qualify as Electronic Documents under Article 1 of the ITE Law and that the deliberate creation of fake accounts intended to appear authentic satisfies the objective and subjective elements of Article 35. Criminal sanctions may therefore be imposed under Article 51 paragraph (1), which provides penalties of up to twelve years’ imprisonment and substantial fines. The study further identifies enforcement challenges related to digital attribution and evidentiary standards, while affirming the normative sufficiency of the ITE Law in addressing digital identity manipulation. The research contributes to strengthening doctrinal clarity and proportional application of criminal sanctions within Indonesia’s evolving digital legal landscape.
