Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the carrying capacity of land for residential areas in the Regional Long-Term Development Planning of Badung Regency 2025--2045. This research is a documentary research using quantitative data sourced from the 2023 Badung Regency Strategic Environmental Assessment Document. The quantitative data was analyzed using the runoff coefficient analysis technique to calculate water availability. In addition, conversion techniques are also used to calculate the needs of residents for water to live a decent life. The results of documentary research can find that for 2025-2045 Badung Regency has a water surplus status of 97,378.00 m3. However, if you look at the needs of the population per village/per sub-district for water, it can be seen that there are as many as fifteen villages with a water deficit. In addition, it can also be known that the construction of hotels, housing, and other physical developments that are carried out massively, which is accompanied by the use of groundwater as much as 4,846 m3/month, can cause land subsidence and encourage flash floods.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the challenges and potential solutions in advancing sustainable tourism in Badung Regency, Bali Province, with a particular focus on three core elements: spirituality (Parhyangan), social relations (Pawongan), and environmental sustainability (Palemahan). As tourist numbers continue to rise, issues such as a lack of respect for sacred sites, social tensions between visitors and local communities, and negative ecological impacts have become increasingly urgent. Employing a qualitative methodology—including in-depth interviews with government officials (notably from the Tourism Office), tourism stakeholders, community members, and academics, along with field data analysis—this research identifies harmful behavioral patterns and proposes policy recommendations aimed at fostering harmony between tourism, society, and the environment. The findings highlight that education, stricter law enforcement, and enhanced collaboration among stakeholders are essential to cultivating a tourism experience that honors local values, strengthens communities, and safeguards natural resources. Ultimately, this study seeks to contribute to a new paradigm of tourism management—one that goes beyond economic gain to prioritize long-term social and environmental sustainability in Badung Regency as a premier travel destination.

Abstract

Bendega is a traditional institution of Bali’s coastal communities that has an important role in marine governance, fisheries, and the preservation of maritime culture. However, modernization, tourism development, and urbanization in Denpasar City have posed challenges for the sustainability of Bendega’s function. This research aims to examine the existence of Bendega in Denpasar, identify the problems faced, and formulate a strategy to strengthen its institutions. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach through literature studies, regulatory analysis, and interviews with Bendega figures and related stakeholders. The results of the study show that strengthening Bendega can be carried out through: (1) harmonization of regulations between local governments and customary rules, (2) institutional capacity building and member regeneration, (3) strengthening maritime-based economy, (4) revitalizing the value of Tri Hita Karana, and (5) multi-stakeholder collaboration. This study emphasizes the importance of strengthening Bendega as one of the foundations of sustainable development in the coastal area of Denpasar City.
