Abstract

Dental and oral health is important for the general health and well-being of the body and greatly influences the quality of life. Dental and oral health problems will have an impact on a person's performance. Brushing your teeth in the morning after eating and at night before going to bed is an effort to maintain oral hygiene. The purpose of brushing teeth is to remove plaque and the entire surface of the teeth. Efforts to maintain oral hygiene and foster dental health, especially for school-aged children, need special attention because at this age children are undergoing a process of growth and development. The type of research that will be carried out is descriptive research with the aim of seeing a picture of knowledge of how to brush teeth on OHI-S status among students at SD Inpres Pannara, Manggala District, Makassar City. From the results of research conducted on students at SD Inpres Pannara in November 2023 by filling out questionnaires by students at SD Inpres Pannara with a total of 50 students and carrying out dental and oral hygiene checks. Data obtained from respondents' knowledge was good with a total percentage of knowledge of 63% in the good category, 38% in the medium category, and 0% in the poor category, then for OHI-S status they got the good category with a percentage of 6% in the good category, in the medium category 82%. and the bad category is 12%.

Abstract

The problem in this study is the lack of maternal knowledge about caries in the teeth of children aged 3-5 years at the Aesthetic Dental Care clinic. The purpose of this study is to find out the extent of maternal knowledge about caries in the teeth of children aged 3-5 years at the Aesthetic Dental Care clinic. The method in this study is that the research design used is a descriptive design. The sampling technique used was consecutive sampling with a direct examination method, with a sample of 30 respondents and by filling out a questionnaire sheet. The research data analysis technique is to calculate the average answer based on the scoring of each answer from the respondents. The total number of answersobtained from the respondents, is calculated in the form of distribution, frequency and percentage and presented in the form of a table. The resultsof this study are the Level of Maternal Knowledge about Caries in Children Aged 3-5 Years at the Aesthetic Dental Care Clinic shows that the majorityof mothers have good knowledge about caries which is 56.7%. Meanwhile, 30% of mothers have sufficient knowledge and 13.3% have less knowledge. The average respondent in this study showed that as many as 75% of mothers were able to answer correctly about dental caries. This shows that the majority of mothers have a good knowledge of caries, thus affecting mothers' attitudes and actions in maintaining children's dental and oral health.

Abstract

Latar belakang: kesehatan gigi dan mulut dapat membantu meningkatkan pemahaman kita tentang pentingnya perawatan gigi dan dampaknya terhadap kesehatan secara keseluruhan. Dengan demikian, kesadaran masyarakat dapat ditingkatkan dan masyarakat bisa lebih memperhatikan kesehatan gigi dan mulut. Terutama dalam hubungan Prevalensi Periodontitis pada Penderita Diabetes Mellitus Di Klinik Telkom Health Center Jakarta Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui Prevalensi periodontitis pada penderita Diabetes Mellitus Tipe II Di Klinik Telkom Health Center Jakarta. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode observasional antara penyait Diabetes Mellitus pada penyakit periodontal. Hasil: Didapat Distribusi berdasarkan kelompok umur yaitu kelompok umur 41-50 tahun yang mengalami gingivitis buruk memiliki jumlah lebih banyak yaitu 7 orang (23.1%). Distribusi subjek penelitian berdasarkan lama menderita Diabetes Mellitus menunjukkan bahwa yang mengalami gingivitis buruk paling banyak ditemui pada penderita yang sudah menderita DM selama lebih dari 10 tahun yaitu sebanyak 7 orang (23.1%). Distribusi subjek penelitian berdasarkan kontrol gula darah (HbA1c) menunjukkan bahwa penderita yang mengalami gingivitis buruk paling tinggi terdapat pada yang memiliki kontrol gula darah buruk yaitu sebanyak 15 orang (49.5%). Distribusi status periodontal berdasarkan kontrol gula darah (HbA1c) menunjukkan bahwa yang mengalami skor 4 paling banyak pada penderita DM dengan kontrol gula darah buruk yaitu sebanyak 22 orang (52,8%). Kesimpulan: Berdasarkan penelitian yang dilakukan di Klinik Telkom Health Center, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan antara periodontitis dengan Diabetes Mellitus tipe II. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa pasien yang menderita kedua kondisi tersebut cenderung memiliki masalah periodontal yang lebih parah, terutama pada pasien dengan riwayat Diabetes Mellitus selama lebih dari 10 tahun.

Abstract

Introduction: Dental and oral health as part of the body's health plays a role in determining a person's health status, but adolescents lack knowledge and awareness of dental and oral health. Objective: To increase adolescent knowledge about maintaining dental and oral health. The activity was carried out in Bilalang Village, Gowa Regency, and was attended by 24 adolescents consisting of 14 female adolescents and 10 male adolescents. Method: Conducting dental health education with material on maintaining dental and oral health in adolescents, questions and answers about dental and oral health in adolescents. Results: There was an increase in participant understanding after being given education. Before the activity, most adolescents did not know the importance of maintaining dental health. After the education, participants were able to provide examples and ways to clean their teeth and mouths properly. This activity proves that dental health education has an important role in shaping healthy behaviors in adolescents. Conclusion: A series of community service activities with the theme "Realizing Cheerful Smiles and Healthy Teeth Through Dental and Oral Health Education in Adolescents" has been well implemented, and there has been an increase in adolescent knowledge about dental health.

Abstract

Elementary school age is an ideal time to increase knowledge in the field of dental and oral health such as promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative. Promotive and preventive efforts are basic efforts in health services which aim to improve health status and prevent the occurrence of disease, in this case dental and oral disease in children. Minimal forms of activities that can be carried out routinely in the school environment include dental health education/DHE (dental health education), mass tooth brushing, including applying fluoride to teeth. Fluorine has a mechanism of action as an anticaries, namely inhibiting demineralization, increasing remineralization, and inhibiting bacterial glycolysis. The aim of this community service activity is to prevent dental caries by brushing teeth correctly and applying topical fluoride applications to elementary school students who are susceptible to caries to prevent dental caries (caries prevention). Methods for implementing this activity include problem identification, problem solving plans, implementation of activities. This activity was carried out in January 2025 at UPT SPF SD Negeri Minasa Upa, Makassar City. Before administering fluoride, education is first provided regarding dental health with material on caries and the benefits of fluorine for dental health. After that, fluoride was given to 35 grade 6 elementary school students. The results obtained by the number of DMF-T in students were included in the good category (2.3), and the OHI-S examination results obtained a good score (1.4). Dental health education by prioritizing tooth brushing techniques and the use of fluoride toothpaste, healthy behavior and avoiding unhealthy eating habits and carrying out regular dental examinations.
