Abstract

This research was motivated by the low level of research skills among students. At the same time, this skill is one of the competencies needed for academic and career success. This study aims to empower students' research skills using bioinformatics data-based modules, especially on Phanerogamae diversity. This study used mixed methods with an exploratory sequential design. The subjects involved in this study were 101 biology education students. Data was collected through interviews, document analysis, open-ended questions, and questionnaires. Data analysis used descriptive, paired sample T-test and N-Gain score. The results showed that the module proved feasible to use in lectures based on the assessment by material experts, media experts, and course practitioner lecturers. The developed module proved effective in empowering students' research skills with a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores, and student responses to the module were positive. This study implies that the developed module can be an innovative teaching material in lectures to attract student interest in learning and accommodate research skills training.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the value of the modulus of elasticity and sugar content in Wajik snacks. Wajik is one of the traditional snacks that is popular with many people. The sweet and legit taste of wajik increases consumer interest in this product. This product is a semi-wet food made from glutinous rice, coconut milk and brown sugar. Coconut milk is a mandatory additional ingredient in making wajik, because the oil produced by coconut milk will produce a legit and savory taste. Coconut milk also produces fat in wajik. Elasticity was analyzed from 5 samples of wajik snacks and Analysis of sugar content (fructose, glucose, sucrose) was carried out using the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method and total calorie analysis was carried out by adding calories from protein, fat, carbohydrate components or by calculation method. Protein content was analyzed using the Kjeldahl method, total fat analysis was carried out using the Weibull method, total carbohydrates were determined using the by difference method.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of differences in concentration and solubility of active lime (25% and 35% CaCO3 solution, 25% and 35% CaCO3 supernatant) on the quality of indigo (Indigofera longiracemosa) dye paste. The method for making indigo dye paste includes the process of soaking fresh leaves and twigs of I. longiracemosa in water, fermentation with an active lime solution of CaCO3 with varying concentrations and solubility, settling, and filtration to obtain indigo paste. Several tests were carried out to evaluate the quality of the color in the fabric and the indican content in the indigo produced. The indican content that was successfully tested showed the highest results in the paste treated with 25% CaCO3. Color quality tests on fabrics show that fabrics dyed with indigo paste with 35% CaCO3 solution treatment have the best color fastness to sweat with an average value of 4. The color fastness test to heat on fabric dyed with indigo paste with all types of treatment received a score of 4-5, which indicates excellent color fastness, does not fade, and does not stain other fabrics. The differences in concentration and solubility of CaCO3 solution result in variations in the physical characteristics of indigo paste, the colors produced on fabric, the indican content, as well as the colorfastness to sweat and heat.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the location with the highest lichen diversity and interpret possible causes based on ecological conditions. Sampling was carried out in June-August 2024 with purposive sampling based on the presence of substrates. The number of plots taken at Grojogan Sewu and Jumog Waterfalls was 4, while the number of plots at Parang Ijo Waterfall was 3 with a plot size of 10 x 10 meters. The types of substrates used were trees, soil, and rocks. The results showed that the lichen found at Grojogan Sewu Waterfall, Jumog Waterfall, and Parang Ijo Waterfall amounted to 14 species from 10 families. The results showed that Parang Ijo Waterfall had the highest level of lichen diversity compared to the other two locations. This finding indicates that environmental conditions in Parang Ijo are relatively more supportive of lichen growth, so that it can be evaluated as an area with better environmental quality. The lichen diversity index at Grojogan Sewu Waterfall is included in the moderate category with H’ 1.12, Jumog Waterfall is included in the moderate category with H’ 1.24, and Parang Ijo Waterfall is included in the moderate category with H’ 1.45.
