Abstract

Quality basic education is inextricably linked to teacher competence. Competence is a person's ability or capability to perform a task based on his abilities. However, following the Covid-19 pandemic, many schools, including instructors, are struggling to adapt to the New Normal Era. One of these is elementary School No. 11 Dauh Puri, one of Denpasar's public elementary schools. Most teachers are elderly, and professional skill is required to design instructional media in a creative manner. One of the issues of Elementary School 11 Dauh Puri is teacher competence. Teachers lack the necessary expertise in science and technology to create engaging learning materials, particularly for foreign languages, that spark student interest. One of the methods proposed for improving teacher abilities is to provide training in the use of Canva as learning materials as well as the usage of Quizziz for assessment or evaluation of student learning. Teachers appreciate community service, which includes the use of Canva and Quizziz to create teaching materials. Despite the fact that she had official training, the teacher feels helped.

Abstract

Envy adalah band rock asal Jepang yang terbentuk di Tokyo pada tahun 1992. Pada 2020 mereka merilis album yang berjudul The Fallen Crimson. Dalam album tersebut terdapat lagu yang berjudul A Faint New World. Lagu tersebut tersebut dipilih karena lirik dalam lagu ini memiliki makna yang mendalam. Tujuan dari tulisan ini adalah untuk menemukan makna-makna yang terkandung dalam lagu ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan teori semiotika Michael Riffaterre sebagai kajiannya. Hasil dari tulisan ini menunjukan bahwa lagu A Faint New World karya Envy memiliki makna tentang perjalanan emosional yang penuh dengan penyesalan, kehilangan, dan pencarian makna. Di tengah-tengah kesulitan dan kehancuran, ada harapan untuk menemukan kedamaian dan koneksi yang lebih dalam. Lagu ini juga menyampaikan pesan tentang perjuangan manusia untuk menemukan makna dan kedamaian di tengah-tengah kesulitan hidup, dengan menggunakan simbolisme dan metafora yang mendalam.

Abstract

We could see Bali as an international tourist destination got the impact of globalization from more and more number of foreigners stay, live and work in Bali every year. One of the many foreign residents living in Bali is Japanese, so the needs to master Japanese will benefit Japanese language learners, especially if they are taught from an early age. The teaching team held this program as community service activities at Bali Bestari elementary schhool in Denpasar. The purpose of this activity is as a means of introducing basic level Japanese language and culture to fifth grade students at Bali Bestari Elementary School. The selection of lesson materials is adjusted based on the length of period, students grade and school needs. The lesson materials are vocabulary or sentences that are often used in the daily lives of elementary school students and the school environment. This teaching activity implemented into 4 stages, namely: 1. Observation and interviews, 2. preparation stage, 3. Implementation stage and 4. Monitoring and discussion stage. The results of the activity shows that students are able to say several daily greetings and vocabulary in dailyenvironments and students are able to implement Japanese culture which is demonstrated through attitudes when giving daily greetings and also in daily class activities.
