Abstract

As something that is inseparable from a mufasir, a mufasir's ideological, scientific tendencies and environmental influences shape his subjectivity in interpreting the Qur'an. The interpreter's subjectivity sometimes clashes with information from hadith narratives. The clash between mufasir subjectivity and narrative objectivity is the background for this research. To achieve the research objectives, this article uses a type of literature research with qualitative research methods. The book of al-Durr al-Manṡūr fī al-Tafsīr bi al-Ma'ṡūr by Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī is used as an object of research as well as a primary source. This article focuses on the interpretation of mutasyābih verses in the book of al-Durr al-Manṡūr, especially the nature or tajsīm verses. The tajsīm verses studied contain the terms istawā, wajhun, 'ainun, yadun, and yamīn. The results of the research are the dominance of the tawaqquf attitude by al-Suyūṭī and his tendency to follow the Salaf 'ulama who do not interpret mutasyābih verses. A different attitude was shown by al-Suyūṭī in his other works when discussing the same verse, namely in Tafsīr Jalālain and al-Itqān fī 'Ulūm al-Qur'ān. This difference in attitude is caused by the limitations of the narratives in the book al-Durr al-Manṡūr. This shows that in the interpretation of tajsim verses, when confronted with hadith narratives, al-Suyūṭī prefers a tawaqquf attitude.

Abstract

Although the majority of the Banjar tribe today embraces Islam, elements of pre-Islamic culture have acculturated and remain relevant in their daily lives. One such element is the cacak burung symbol. Rooted in the traditional beliefs of the pre-Islamic Dayak tribe, the cacak burung symbol has persisted into the present-day Banjar society, now with an Islamic identity. This persistence necessitates a process of transmission and transformation in its development. This study examines the diachronic transformation of the cacak burung symbol, aiming to reinterpret and ensure its continuity in various contexts. The study addresses three main questions: (1) What is the history and use of the cacak burung symbol in the pre-Islamic Dayak tradition? (2) How has the use of the cacak burung symbol evolved from the post-Islamization era to the present? (3) What is the process of transmission and transformation of the cacak burung symbol in Banjar society? This qualitative research employed descriptive analysis xmethod. Through observations of the cacak burung symbol in traditional Banjar practices and interviews, the study concludes that the symbol is transmitted from generation to generation through discursive traditions. This transmission pattern necessitates transformations in the reading mantra, material, and form of the symbol. These transformations are influenced by the Islamization of the Dayak-Banjar tribe, adaptations to a busier lifestyle, and the impact of globalization.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Amina Wadud’s thoughts in her interpretation of the Qur'an using Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalytic approach. The literature review research method is used as a research approach that involves various sources of literature, including Amina Wadud’s works, especially “Qur'an and Woman: Rereading the Sacred Text from a Woman’s Perspective,” as well as related literature that discusses Lacan's thoughts, Islamic feminism, and the interpretation of the Qur'an. Based on Lacan’s mirror stage and his psychoanalytic concepts to analyze the construction of Amina Wadud’s self-identity and gender roles in the interpretation of the Qur'an, it is found in the results of this study that there is identification related to gender identity, inequality, and rejection of patriarchal traditions in Amina Wadud’s thoughts reflected in her interpretation. One of them is in QS. Al-Nisā [4]: 1, showing the construction of Amina Wadud’s self-identity and gender roles in the interpretation of the Qur'an.
