Abstract

Abstract. Sin, as seen in various evil deeds, continues to color the lives of human beings even today. This paper is an attempt to understand the root of sin and evil from the perspective of Paul’s theology. The author used the literature study method with a descriptive qualitative approach. In addition, the exegetical interpretation method also be applied to several key texts related to the purpose of this paper. The result of this study concluded that the fight against the forces of evil can only be built on a living and personal faith with God in the experience and struggle of actual life. Religion and rituals are only a means, and not a guarantee, of escape from the bondage of sin and evil. Abstract

Cyberbullying has become a very crucial problem along with the increasing use of digital media in Indonesia. Its problem generally targets children and teenagers as the most dominant victims. This research attempts to explore the polemic of cyberbullying and offers Immanuel Kant’s moral principles as the main guideline in responding to it. In completing this article, the author used the qualitative-descriptive method with literature studies and interviews. The author first describes the case study of cyberbullying and analyzes that problem. To respond to this phenomenon, the author presents Immanuel Kant’s moral principles and draws their relevance for responding to cyberbullying cases. The research results state that, according to Kant, efforts to combat cyberbullying crimes are a categorical imperative that cannot be rejected by anyone. Cyberbullying can be stopped by strengthening moral principles in humans, which are the principles of universality, humanity, and moral autonomy. These three principles can be implemented into concrete virtues such as the internalization of individual responsibility, the formation of character education appropriate to the contextual digital era, and the implementation of practical moral values in life. These virtues invite people to respect the dignity and autonomy of others, which directly challenges the practice of cyberbullying. By having and doing this, humans are trained to sharpen their moral sensitivity in treating others while being wise and responsible in using existing technological media.

Abstract

This article aims to present an analysis of Jeremiah 24:1-10, with a focus on the text's structure and rhetoric. This research treats Jeremiah 24:1-10 as a cohesive unit, differing from the views of redactional theorists who commonly consider verse 1b in Jeremiah 24:1-10 as a redactional addition. According to them, reading Jeremiah 24 without verse 1b would not significantly impact the understanding of the passage. Verse 1b, mentioning King Jeconiah, the officials of Judah, the artisans, and the smiths, is added as propaganda reflecting Jeconiah’s claims or legitimization and that of his supporters to live and rule in Jerusalem and Judah. In contrast to this perspective, this article views verse 1b as one of the structural and rhetorical elements that demonstrate how the text is organized. This article will identify structural devices such as keyword repetitions and contrasts that can indicate the rhetoric or persuasive techniques employed in the text. The analysis finds that Jeremiah 24:1-10 contains rhetoric of God's mysterious providence, showcasing God's full authority to change or determine the fate of nations or kingdoms that humans sometimes cannot comprehend.  Key words :  rhetoric, providence, mystery, paradox, quality, civilisation
