Abstract

Changes in society related to changes in social values, norms, patterns of organizational behavior, the composition of social institutions, social interaction. Arfak Mountains Regency formed since 2012 through Law Number 24 of 2012 is the main district which was later divided into South Manokwari Regency and Arfak Mountains. The Arfak mountain community is referred to as the large Arfak tribe because it consists of several sub tribes namely Hatam, Moile, Sough and Meyah. This paper aims to provide an overview and information about social changes that occur in the Arfak tribal community in the Arfak Mountains Regency, West Papua Province. The method used is a literature review of various reports or scientific studies related to the context of social and cultural change in the Arfak tribal community. These materials were analyzed using Herbert Spencer's theories of social change, Talcot Parson, Kingsley Davis's modern theory (Demographic Transition). The results obtained show that social changes in the Arfak tribe in the Arfak Mountains District occur due to changes in the composition of the population, the existence of the Papua Special Autonomy Policy, the inclusion of new innovations, easier transportation, empowerment programs, changes in customary institutions and values and norms that have an impact positive and negative on people's lives.

Abstract

Background: The prevalences of severe acute malnutrition, moderate acute malnutrition and low birth weight (LBW) in West Papua Province is higher than the national prevalence. Malaria disease, especially in an infant, is also of concern in this province. Manokwari District is regarded as malaria endemic area due to the high morbidity rate in the entire district. Objective: To determine the incidence of malaria, nutritional status of children and to analyze the relationship between two of them.Method: The methodology that used in this research is cross-sectional design conducted in four health centers in Manokwari with a sample of 100 children aged two to five years. The data were analyzed using Chi-Square analysis and logistic regression analysis. Results: The incidence rate of malaria in Manokwari district is high. This is because the number of an infant that was infected highly and lowly by malaria do not vary much. Results show that 42% children suffering from severe malaria, particularly tropical malaria type, with a frequency of more than two times in six months so that it had a direct effect on appetite and weight. Average nutritional status based on weight/height and height/age is normal while according to weight/age is not normal. Infants with severe and moderate acute malnutrition are not found in this study. Conclusion: The incidence rate of malaria in children under five in the district of Manokwari is high, the nutritional status of children under five in the past are in the normal category and at the time of the study were not normal, this is due at the time of the study many infants experience pain and therefore contributes to the appetite that directly affects body weight of infants. Furthermore, it is known that there is a relationship between the incidence of malaria by the nutritional status of children in the district of Manokwari.

Abstract

Abstract

This article reviews the literature related to the application of agricultural technology in rural Papua and West Papua using a rural sociology perspective. This study has three main objectives: (1) to examine various national and international literature on agricultural technology in rural Papua, (2) to highlight the social, cultural, and structural factors that influence technology adoption among farmers, and (3) to compare local research findings with international studies to formulate a technology implementation model that is more relevant to local conditions. The analysis shows that technologies such as superior seeds, biotechnology-based fertilizers, simple mechanization, and the digitization of agricultural information can increase productivity by up to 30%. However, these benefits are not evenly distributed due to obstacles such as limited infrastructure, low digital literacy, and dependence on external inputs. Compared with countries such as Vietnam, China, and Kenya, which have recorded 40–45% increases through the use of precision technology and pro-farmer policy support, Papua still lags behind. Social factors such as the leadership of traditional leaders, cultural factors such as local wisdom and resistance to modernisation, and structural factors such as access to extension services and financing are key to successful adoption. Therefore, agricultural development in Papua requires a combination of technological innovation with local knowledge, strengthening social networks, and inclusive, participatory, and sustainable policies.
