Abstract

Low understanding of Arabic literacy and kitab kuning among santri remains a problem in pesantren learning, particularly because of the dominance of teacher-centered conventional methods that insufficiently encourage santri active participation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the peer teaching or peer tutoring method in accelerating santri understanding of Arabic literacy and kitab kuning at Pondok Pesantren Anwarul Huda Malang. This study used a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. The research subjects included santri, peer tutors, and ustadz. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the peer teaching method was effective in improving santri understanding of Arabic literacy and kitab kuning. This method created a more active, communicative, and collaborative learning atmosphere, enabling santri to understand the material more easily through explanations from peer tutors. Improvement was also evident in the ability to read kitab gundul, understand nahwu and sharaf, and translate texts. In addition, this method had a positive impact on santri self-confidence and learning motivation, although it still faced challenges in the form of differences in tutor quality and limited implementation time. These findings confirm that peer teaching can serve as a relevant alternative learning strategy to strengthen Arabic literacy and kitab kuning in the pesantren environment.

Abstract

The integration of the pesantren curriculum and the national curriculum is an important strategy for Islamic educational institutions in producing graduates with strong academic, religious, and character competencies. However, the success of this integration is strongly determined by the effectiveness of educational management implemented by the institution. This study aims to analyze the management of the integration of the pesantren curriculum and the national curriculum and its contribution to the quality of santri graduates at Pondok Pesantren Ar-Rahman Malang. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation with informants consisting of the pesantren leader, deputy head for curriculum, teachers, ustaz, and santri. The data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña interactive model through the stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was tested through source, technique, and time triangulation. The results showed that curriculum integration was implemented systematically through management functions that included planning, organizing, implementation, and evaluation. The implementation of the integrated curriculum was realized through a combination of academic learning, diniyah education, Qur’an tahfiz, character development, and extracurricular activities. This integration had a positive impact on graduate quality, as indicated by improved academic achievement, mastery of religious knowledge, social skills, leadership ability, and the strengthening of Islamic character. The conclusion of this study affirms that effective curriculum integration management makes an important contribution to shaping santri graduates who are excellent, competitive, and noble in character. These findings imply the need to strengthen integrated curriculum governance in pesantren as a model of Islamic education that is adaptive to national academic demands while remaining consistent in preserving Islamic values.

Abstract

Although environmental management in pondok pesantren, particularly in the aspects of sanitation and cleanliness, is an important necessity, its implementation remains challenging due to the large number of santri and the density of daily activities. This study aims to analyze the Eco-Pesantren-based environmental management strategy in managing sanitation and cleanliness at Pondok Pesantren Anwarul Huda Malang. This study used a qualitative method with a field study approach through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the pesantren leader, administrators, and santri. The results showed that the environmental management strategy was implemented in a planned and integrated manner through the functions of planning, implementation, supervision, and evaluation. Sanitation and cleanliness management is not only technical in nature, but is also internalized as a pesantren value and culture through written policies, active participation of santri, and an educational supervisory approach. The Eco-Pesantren program has a positive impact on environmental cleanliness, pesantren health, and the formation of santri awareness and clean living behavior. This study concludes that Pondok Pesantren Anwarul Huda Malang can serve as a model of good practice in implementing Eco-Pesantren based on sustainable environmental management.

Abstract

The achievement of santri memorization targets in the Al-Qur’an tahfidz program often encounters various obstacles related to managerial aspects. This study aims to analyze the management of the Al-Qur’an tahfidz program and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors in achieving santri memorization targets at Pesantren Al-Azkiya Malang. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation study. The research subjects included the pesantren caregiver, the tahfidz coordinator, supervising ustadz, and santri from each memorization target category. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the management of the tahfidz program at Pesantren Al-Azkiya Malang had been implemented systematically through the functions of planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision. The main supporting factors for the success of santri memorization included a conducive pesantren environment, disciplined scheduling, the active role of supervising ustadz, and a continuous evaluation system. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors included santri boredom, differences in individual ability, physical fatigue, and suboptimal time management, particularly among santri with high memorization targets. This study concludes that the successful achievement of santri memorization targets is determined not only by individual ability but is also strongly influenced by the effectiveness of tahfidz program management implemented in a planned and sustainable manner.
