Abstract

Background: The prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls in the world is 29.60%, and in Indonesia is 32%. A number of primary studies reveal various determinants that contribute to the occurrence of anemia in adolescent girls. Purpose: To analyze the results of primary studies related to consumption patterns (food diversity and tea/coffee consumption) and the occurrence of anemia in adolescent girls. Methods: The research design was a systematic review with meta-analysis. Journal sources from three databases (Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Scopus) using Publish or Perish software with keywords using boolean operators and featured with PRISMA. Inclusion criteria were full text from 2013 to 2022, articles in Indonesian or English language, cross-sectional studies, and the population was adolescent girls, using multiple logistic regression analysis with adjusted odds ratio. The study obtained nine articles from 11,421 articles identified. Data analysis using Rev.Man 5.4. Results: The prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls was 30.83% (95% CI: 15.71-45.95). Food diversity (SMD=1.87; 95% CI=0.88-3.97; P-value=0.10) and tea or coffee consumption (SMD=2.46; 95% CI=1.15-5.27; P-value=0.02) influence the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls. Conclusion: Low food diversity and tea or coffee consumption increase the risk of anemia in adolescent girls. Implementing balanced nutritional guidelines to prevent anemia is recommended.

Abstract

Background: The prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls is high globally and in Indonesia. Various factors, including low-level knowledge, play a role in the onset of anemia in adolescents. The purpose of this study was to analyze the results of studies on anemia knowledge in adolescent girls to obtain a combined effect. Method: This systematic review included a meta-analysis. The journal sources were Google Scholar, Pub-med, and Scopus, and the search was performed using Publish or Perish Software, applying keywords using Boolean operators. The inclusion criteria were Indonesian or English language articles, full text from 2013 to 2022, cross-sectional studies, adolescent female populations, and multiple logistic regression analyses with adjusted odds ratio measures. A total of 10,499 articles were identified, of which 6 articles met the inclusion criteria. Data analysis using RevMan 5.4. Results: The prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls was 40.2% (95% CI: 12.98-67.68). Meta-analysis showed that knowledge about anemia had an influence on the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls (SMD=3.06; CI 95%=2.23-4.19; P-value=<0.001). The fixed-effect model was used. The funnel plot indicates that there was no publication bias in this study. Conclusion: Poor knowledge increases the risk of developing anemia in adolescents. It is recommended to increase literacy through social media related to anemia in adolescent girls and to activate adolescent health programs in schools.

Abstract

Anemia has a negative impact on physical function, especially reproductive organ function in adolescent girls. The prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls globally is still high at 29.6%, including in Indonesia at 32%. This study aims to analyze findings from studies related to the prevalence of anemia and consumption of iron supplements and the duration of menstruation in adolescent girls. The research design uses a systematic review with meta-analysis of articles that sourced from three databases, namely Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Scopus. Search for articles using Publish or Perish software, and selected according to inclusion criteria, namely Indonesian or English language, full-text from 2013 to 2022, cross-sectional study design with the adjusted odds ratio measure. The data analysis using RevMan 5.4. Total of 10 articles met the inclusion criteria from 11,425 articles identified. The average prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls was 34.55% (CI 95%: 19.49-49.60). The results of the meta-analysis showed that iron supplement consumption (aOR= 6.17; 95% CI= 1.66-22.93; P-value 0.01) and menstrual duration (aOR= 5.97; 95% CI= 3.60-27.66; P- value= 0.04) influences the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls. It is recommended that young women always consume iron supplements according to government programs, especially during menstruation.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a major non-communicable disease and remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia, including in Bukittinggi City. Situation analysis in 2022 and health problem review in 2024 showed that DM consistently ranks within the top five health priorities in this region. Health Office reports indicate increasing DM cases from 2022 to 2024, while the Minimum Service Standards achievement exceeded 100%. This suggests that administrative achievement does not fully reflect effective program implementation. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of the DM control program in Bukittinggi City. A descriptive evaluation was conducted through structured interviews with 12 program officers from the Health Office and community health centers. The assessment covered four evaluation components: input, process, output, and outcome. Results showed that the program generally followed national guidelines but encountered several challenges. For input, human resources, facilities (63.6%), and funding (54.5%) were considered adequate; however, most officers had not received specific DM training (81.8%) and still had multiple responsibilities (66.7%). Regarding process, early detection, education, and monitoring activities were implemented, yet planning involvement remained limited (72.7%). At the output level, core activities were running, but some health centers had not conducted DM surveillance or developed community referrals (28.6%). Regarding outcomes, the program contributed to improved patient quality of life (54.5%), although community participation was still low. Strengthening the program is expected through improved staff capacity and proportional task assignment, greater involvement in planning, strengthened surveillance and community networks, and increased community participation through education.

Abstract

HIV cases continue to be a public health issue in West Sumatra Province, as seen from the increasing number of cases each year. Differences in regional characteristics are suspected to contribute to the pattern of HIV spread, so a spatial approach is needed to understand the variation in case distribution more deeply. This study uses an ecological study design by analyzing 19 districts/cities in West Sumatra during the period 2021-2024. The Global Moran’s I and LISA methods were applied to identify spatial autocorrelation patterns. The research results show that there are 7,260 HIV cases with a continuously increasing trend each year. Global spatial analysis shows a significant negative autocorrelation, indicating a dispersed distribution pattern, with a dominance of Low-High clusters in most regions. High spatial heterogeneity that is not concentrated in a single cluster was identified in West Sumatra province. Health policy interventions based on regional characteristics are needed to optimize resource allocation and future HIV prevention strategies.

Abstract

The aim was to analyze the relationship between maternal health, nutritional status, and feeding practices for toddlers and the incidence of stunting in oil palm farmer households. This study design was cross-sectional. The samples were mothers and toddlers from oil palm farmer households who were randomly selected, as many as 227 from 8 villages in Muaro Jambi Regency. Collecting data by interview and anthropometric measurements. Stunting was measured using Height/Age < -2 Standard Deviation. Data analysis used Chi-square and multiple logistic regression. The incidence of stunting was 30.4%. Maternal nutritional status was 4.8% thin, overweight was 48.9%, and Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) was 8.4%. Poor feeding patterns for toddlers 38.3%. The morbidity of mothers with infectious diseases was 10.1%. The dominant factor of stunting in toddlers in oil palm farmer households was the CED of mothers (POR = 2.34; 95% Confidence Interval = 0.78-7.00) after being controlled by maternal nutritional status, feeding patterns, and food insecurity. It is recommended to apply a healthy lifestyle, have a balanced and diverse nutritional diet for the mother, and pay good attention to her feeding practice for children. Improving nutrition and health education is very necessary for mothers. Keywords: Stunting, CED, toddlers, oil palm, smallholder
