Abstract

This research explores the role of food taboos in Kampung Adat Cireundeu, focusing on the community’s prohibition against rice consumption and its significance in maintaining cultural identity and food security. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants and direct observations of the community’s food practices. Historical and secondary data were also reviewed. The study found that the food taboos in Cireundeu are deeply connected to the community's historical resistance to colonisation and their religious beliefs in Sunda Wiwitan. These taboos serve as a cultural safeguard and a strategy for ensuring food resilience by relying on cassava as a staple crop. The findings suggest that indigenous knowledge systems and food taboos can play a critical role in promoting sustainable food security and cultural preservation. This has implications for policy development in areas of food sovereignty and ecological sustainability. This research offers a novel perspective on the intersection of historical, cultural, and ecological factors in shaping food practices, contributing to the broader understanding of how food taboos function within indigenous communities to maintain resilience against modern challenges.

Abstract

This article aims to re-investigate the Jihad movement of ex-terrorist convicts among the caregivers and teachers of the as-Salam Tahfidzul Quran Islamic boarding school in the Red Zone area of Bima-Dompu, Eastern Indonesia. This article focuses on two things by using a phenomenological qualitative approach, namely: (1) investigating the Jihad movement transformation of the ex-terrorist convicts among as-Salam Tahfidz Quran Islamic boarding school caretakers/teachers, (2) examining negative prejudice against as-Salam Tahfidzul Quran Islamic boarding school as "Terrorist School". The data in this article were collected using observation, participation, interview and documentation techniques which are analyzed inductively. The fieldwork on the study of religious movements in this article shows two significant results. First, the understanding and movement of Jihad for the ex-terrorist convicts among the caretakers/teachers of as-Salam Tahfidzul Quran Bima-Dompu Islamic Boarding School has changed and transformed Jihad from "taking up arms" to "Amar Makruf Nahi Mungkar" which pursued through education. Second, the increment of highly negative prejudice towards  As-Salam Tahfidzul Quran Bima-Dompu Islamic Boarding School as a "Terrorist School" among the large community due to the lack of communication from the government to the community regarding the developments of the ex-convicts and the safety assurance of them being in the community after they have served their prison term. Through a significant academic analysis, this article draws a temporary conclusion that Bima-Dompu NTB is no longer a terrorist Red Zone area.

Abstract

The people of Bima only know Fitua as a tradition—which some Muslim groups use Fitua as a forum or space for interpreting Islamic values ??through religious philosophy discourse with one term "ngaji tua", as well as a space for deepening practice worship at the level of essence (haqiqah). This article attempts to trace and re-identify texts in the discipline of Sufism that are related to Fitua. Considering that the text does not stand alone, the study of this article is also built on the assumption that every text is a mosaic; absorption quotations, and the transformation of other texts, so that the new text allows for absorption and transformation of the previous text. The author places Fitua as a new text, then reads it and relates it to the concept of Futuwwah as the previous text to find the relationship between the two. Through qualitative descriptive research, this article explains as deeply as possible the relationship between Fitua as Bima Sufism and the concept of Futuwwah as one of the disciplines of Sufism. From the results of this interpretation and analysis, this article is able to show that Fitua is a local Islamic spiritualism (Sufism) of Bima with the concepts and teachings of Futuwwah which was built based on the advice of Maja labo Dahu with the five pillars of the life principles of the Bima Muslim community, namely maja, 'dahu, su'u sawa'u sia sawale, ngahi rawi pahu, and toho mpara nahu, sura dou labo dana—as a way (tareqah) in Sufism
