Abstract

In the era of globalization and advances in information technology, social media plays a key role in shaping the dynamics of people's daily lives. This phenomenon not only affects social and economic aspects but also penetrates the diverse dimensions of religious life. This article examines the impact of social media on people's religiosity, specifically in context post-truth and hoaxes. There is a trend where urban people prefer to get religious understanding from ustaz/clerics on social media rather than from traditional religious authorities. Freedom of expression on social media, without an adequate selection process and credibility, creates a diversity of interpretations that can confuse the public. The rise of hoaxes and information post-truths on social media poses a serious challenge to quality religious understanding and traditional religious authority. This article highlights the potential for religious disintegration and radicalism as a result of hoax information and post-truth on social media. Through a qualitative approach and case studies, this research explores the transformation of religious paradigms, freedom of expression, and the diversity of interpretations that occur on social media. This article suggests efforts to verify information and increase media literacy as a solution to overcome the negative impact of social media on people's religiosity.

Abstract

The dissemination of messages of peace on social media has a significant impact on shaping public opinion and attitudes toward social and political issues. However, there is still limited understanding of how messages of peace are disseminated and received by social media users. This research aims to explore and understand how messages of peace are disseminated and understood by social media users, as well as the factors influencing this process. A qualitative approach is used in this research with data collection procedures through online observation and in-depth interviews with 30 social media users. Data were analyzed through data restatement, data display, and data verification steps. The findings of the research indicate that social media users have various ways of disseminating messages of peace, ranging from sharing positive content to debating controversial issues with a peaceful approach. Factors such as content, social context, and user identity influence the effectiveness of messages of peace in achieving their dissemination goals. This research concludes that the dissemination of messages of peace on social media is a complex phenomenon influenced by various factors. However, with a deeper understanding of patterns and factors influencing the dissemination of messages of peace, more effective strategies can be developed to promote peace and tolerance in the online world.

Abstract

This research explores the role of food taboos in Kampung Adat Cireundeu, focusing on the community’s prohibition against rice consumption and its significance in maintaining cultural identity and food security. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants and direct observations of the community’s food practices. Historical and secondary data were also reviewed. The study found that the food taboos in Cireundeu are deeply connected to the community's historical resistance to colonisation and their religious beliefs in Sunda Wiwitan. These taboos serve as a cultural safeguard and a strategy for ensuring food resilience by relying on cassava as a staple crop. The findings suggest that indigenous knowledge systems and food taboos can play a critical role in promoting sustainable food security and cultural preservation. This has implications for policy development in areas of food sovereignty and ecological sustainability. This research offers a novel perspective on the intersection of historical, cultural, and ecological factors in shaping food practices, contributing to the broader understanding of how food taboos function within indigenous communities to maintain resilience against modern challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically examine the role of religion in peacebuilding in Southeast Asia, a region marked by significant religious and cultural diversity as well as recurring ethno-religious conflicts. While religion is often associated with violence, this research highlights its constructive potential by mapping how religious actors, institutions, and values contribute to reconciliation and social cohesion. Employing a qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study analyzed 35 peer-reviewed journal articles published between 2014 and 2024, selected from databases such as Scopus and Google Scholar. The articles were screened using inclusion and exclusion criteria focusing on empirical research dealing explicitly with religion and peace within Southeast Asia. The analysis identified five thematic areas: the role of religious actors, strategies of interfaith dialogue and mediation, integration of local wisdom, institutional and political challenges, and the contribution of religious education. The findings reveal that religious figures—across Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity—have been central in peacebuilding initiatives, particularly when supported by grassroots legitimacy and cultural contextualization. Dialogical approaches, cultural sensitivity, and educational programs emerged as effective mechanisms for fostering tolerance and reconciliation. However, structural challenges, such as state bureaucracy, ideological resistance, and illiberal policies, continue to hinder the full participation of religious actors in formal peace processes. The study underscores the importance of multi-level collaboration and the recognition of religious institutions not merely as symbolic agents, but as strategic partners in sustainable peacebuilding. Its originality lies in its comprehensive synthesis of literature that bridges fragmented local case studies into a regional framework, offering new insights for both academic discourse and policy development on religion and peace in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

This study explores community-based Islamic education in urban contexts through a qualitative case study of the Shift Pemuda Hijrah movement in Bandung, Indonesia. The research responds to the need for adaptive forms of Islamic education that engage with digital culture while addressing the spiritual and social challenges faced by urban Muslim youth. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving primarily active members, mentors, and organisers of the community, whose backgrounds vary in age, social experience, and intensity of participation. The data were analysed thematically to capture the meanings, practices, and pedagogical orientations articulated within the movement. The findings suggest that Shift Pemuda Hijrah functions as a non-formal educational space in which spirituality, social engagement, and ecological awareness are integrated through programmes such as Shift Care, Shift Farm, and Pesan Trend. Learning processes are largely experiential and participatory, combining mentoring, social practice, and digitally mediated da‘wah. These processes are perceived by active participants as fostering reflective spirituality and orientations towards religious moderation (wasatiyyah). However, the study does not claim measurable or long-term behavioural transformation, as the findings are derived from self-reported experiences within a cross-sectional research design. This research also recognises several analytical limitations. The qualitative approach prioritises interpretive depth rather than quantitative assessment of effectiveness or sustainability. Moreover, while the study highlights innovative and positive educational dynamics, it offers limited insight into internal resistance, critical perspectives, or power relations within the community. External factors and interactions with formal religious authorities are acknowledged as influential but remain outside the primary empirical scope of this study. Despite these limitations, the study contributes to scholarship on Islamic education by offering a contextual and critically reflexive understanding of how community-based, digitally mediated learning environments shape contemporary Muslim youth religiosity in urban Indonesia.
