Abstract

ABSTRACTGeneral Background: Academic stress is a common psychological condition experienced by university students, particularly those who balance academic responsibilities with employment demands. Specific Background: Working students often encounter multiple academic and occupational pressures that may lead to psychological, emotional, and behavioral challenges affecting their academic performance. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have examined determinants of academic stress, yet limited empirical evidence simultaneously investigates the roles of self efficacy and self awareness among working university students in a specific institutional context. Aims: This study aimed to determine the role of self efficacy and self awareness in academic stress among working students at Muhammadiyah University of Sidoarjo. Results: Using a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression on 263 respondents selected through purposive sampling, findings demonstrated that self efficacy and self awareness were significantly associated with academic stress (F = 80.42, p < .001), with both variables contributing 38.1% of the variance. Pearson correlation analysis revealed significant negative relationships between self awareness and academic stress (r = -0.545, p < .001) and between self efficacy and academic stress (r = -0.609, p < .001). Individual testing also confirmed significant negative associations of both variables with academic stress. Novelty: This study integrates self efficacy and self awareness as simultaneous predictors of academic stress specifically among working students in one institutional population. Implications: The findings provide empirical support for psychological development programs aimed at strengthening internal personal competencies to help working students manage academic stress and maintain academic engagement. Highlights: Combined Personal Competency Variables Explain 38.1% Variance of Stress Levels. Higher Confidence in Task Capability Corresponds With Lower Psychological Pressure. Increased Personal Recognition and Reflection Aligns With Reduced Educational Strain. Keywords: Academic Stress, Self Efficacy, Self Awareness, Working Students, Psychological Factors

Abstract

General Background: Student engagement represents the quality and quantity of students’ cognitive, behavioral, and emotional involvement in learning processes and is closely associated with academic achievement. Specific Background: Low participation in classroom activities is linked to negative student behaviors and reduced academic and non-academic outcomes, making engagement an important concern in elementary education contexts. Knowledge Gap: Empirical studies examining the combined contribution of peer support and self-efficacy toward engagement among Indonesian elementary school students remain limited, particularly using simultaneous statistical analysis. Aims: This study aimed to examine the role of peer support and self-efficacy in relation to student engagement among students at State Elementary School Suko 2 Sidoarjo. Results: A quantitative correlational design was applied to 195 students selected through stratified random sampling from a population of 590 students. Data collected using peer support, self-efficacy, and student engagement scales were analyzed through multiple linear regression with SPSS version 29. The analysis indicated that peer support and self-efficacy simultaneously showed a significant relationship with student engagement (F=69.734, p=0.001). Partial testing also demonstrated significant relationships for peer support (p<0.001) and self-efficacy (p<0.001). Novelty: The study provides integrated statistical evidence demonstrating the simultaneous contribution of social and psychological variables to learning engagement within an elementary school setting. Implications: The findings highlight the importance of strengthening supportive peer environments and students’ confidence in learning abilities to foster active participation in educational processes. Highlights: Social Encouragement Among Classmates Is Significantly Associated With Higher Classroom Involvement. Strong Personal Confidence in Learning Abilities Corresponds With Greater Participation in Academic Activities. Combined Psychosocial Variables Show Statistically Significant Relationships Based on Regression Analysis Results. Keywords: Peer Support, Self-Efficacy, Student Engagement, Elementary Education, Learning Participation

Abstract

General Background: Work stress is a significant psychological concern within occupational settings, particularly in high-demand human service professions where employees face emotional and physical strain. Specific Background: Social workers at Liponsos experience considerable workload pressures that may lead to elevated stress levels, necessitating practical psychological interventions such as music therapy. Previous studies have suggested that music-based interventions are associated with stress reduction, yet contextual evidence within Indonesian social service institutions remains limited. Knowledge Gap: Empirical data examining dangdut music therapy as an intervention for work stress among social workers in Liponsos settings are scarce, especially using controlled experimental designs. Aims: This study aimed to examine whether dangdut music therapy reduces work stress among social workers at Liponsos. Results: Using a Randomized Control Trial design with pretest and posttest measures, findings indicated a significant decrease in work stress scores in the experimental group receiving dangdut music therapy, while the control group did not demonstrate comparable reduction. Statistical analysis using Paired Sample T-Test and Independent Sample T-Test confirmed significant differences before and after intervention. Novelty: This study provides empirical evidence on the application of dangdut music therapy within a social service institutional context using a controlled experimental approach. Implications: The findings suggest that culturally relevant music therapy may serve as a practical psychological intervention for managing occupational stress among social workers. Highlights: The Intervention Group Demonstrated Significant Score Decreases After Treatment. Statistical Testing Confirmed Differences Between Pretest and Posttest Measurements. Participants Without Treatment Did Not Show Comparable Changes. Keywords: Work Stress, Dangdut Music Therapy, Social Workers, Randomized Control Trial, Occupational Psychology
