Abstract

The halal aspect is an important factor that must be considered by Muslims in choosing food. However, the low awareness and knowledge related to halal rules and thoyyib on food had caused various serious problems. To overcome this, several government regulations have been issued, but some people still find it difficult to understand the concept of halal products. In this regard, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University through community service conducted socialization in two schools in Rungkut Surabaya district to increase community empowerment about halal lifestyle and the critical point of food prohibition at the young generation. The method used is an online pre-test to determine the initial understanding of the participants, education in the form of counseling and discussion, and evaluation of increased understanding through pre and post-test. As partners are students, teachers, and canteen managers in Madrasah Aliyah and Madrasah Tsanawiyah school grade. Based on the analysis conducted, the results show a strong correlation between halal certification, halal awareness, and halal composition. Socialization can increase the knowledge of students and employees in those schools about the halal lifestyle and the critical point of food prohibition. Halal certification on food products affects buying interest but halal awareness and knowledge about the composition of halal food is still low in its influence on buying interest

Abstract

Analysis of total flavonoid content of papaya leaf and seed extract (Carica papaya L.) by UV-Vis spectrophotometry method. The purpose of this study was because the utilization of papaya leaves and seeds (Carica papaya L.) was still lacking, and to determine the total flavonoid content contained in papaya leaf and seed extract (Carica papaya L.). Extraction of chemical content from the leaves and seeds of papaya (Carica papaya L.) was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol. To determine the levels of flavonoid compounds in the sample extract, a compound analysis was performed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. From the results of the study obtained a qualitative analysis of the flavonoid compounds of each papaya leaf and seed (Carica papaya L.) from 96% ethanol extract changes to brick red color which indicates a positive flavonoid content. Meanwhile, the absorbance measurement was carried out using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with a wavelength of 510 nm. 5 ppm absorbance value (0.214), 10 ppm absorbance value (0.3799), 15 ppm absorbance value (0.5126), and 20 ppm absorbance value (0.7033). As well as measurement of total flavonoid content of papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) from 96% ethanol extract of 17.4633 mg QE/g or 1.7463% and total flavonoid content of papaya seeds (Carica papaya L.) from 96% ethanol extract of ,8181 mg QE/g or 1,5818%. These results indicate that papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya L.) has higher flavonoid content than papaya seed extract (Carica papaya L.).

Abstract

Face cream was a treatment cream used to treat facial skin. One of the natural plant ingredients that could be used as an active substance in cream preparations was soursop leaves (Annona muricata L.), which had antioxidant activity. The purpose of this study was to formulate cream preparations from soursop leaf ethanol extract and test the antioxidant activity on face cream preparations. Soursop leaves were extracted by maceration using a 96% ethanol solvent. Cream preparations in physical quality evaluation included organoleptic test, pH test, homogeneity test, viscosity test, spread power test, sticking power test, centrifugation test, and determination of emulsion type and antioxidant activity test with DPPH method, measured at a wavelength of 511,5 nm using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The results of this study produced a face cream preparation of soursop leaf ethanol extract with differences in color in organoleptic cream preparations. pH tests of FI, FII, and FIII creams had an average yield of 6,0-6,6. The homogeneity tests of FI, FII, and FIII showed homogeneous results. The viscosity test had a value of 49950 cPs. The FI, FII, and FIII spread power tests had good results with an average of 5,2-5,7 cm. FI, FII, and FIII sticking power tests had an average value of 26,5-46,5 seconds. FI, FII, and FIII centrifugation tests were physically stable, and the determination of the type of cream emulsion was type M/A. Testing the antioxidant activity of facial cream with ethanol extract of soursop leaves in FI with a concentration of 3% showed an IC50 value of 80,64 ppm, FII with a concentration of 5% showed an IC50 value of 46,06 ppm, and FIII with a concentration of 7% showed an IC50 value of 10,91 ppm. Based on the results of the study, it could be concluded that the preparation of facial cream with ethanol extract of soursop leaves in FI, FII, and FIII met the physical stability requirements based on organoleptic test parameters, pH test, homogeneity test, viscosity test, spread power test, sticking power test, centrifugation test, and determination of emulsion type. FI cream preparations had an IC50 value of 80,64 ppm, indicating strong antioxidant activity, FII had an IC50 value of 46.06 ppm, indicating very strong antioxidant activity, and FIII had an IC50 value of 10,91 ppm, indicating very strong antioxidant activity. Keywords: Cream, Formulation, Antioxidant, Ekstrak, Soursop Leaves

Abstract

Jamu was one of the traditional medicines because most herbal medicine used natural ingredients or plants. One of the safety of herbal medicine was the absence of abuse such as the addition of artificial sweeteners in the form of cyclamate. Cyclamate was one of the artificial sweeteners that had a sweetness level 30 times higher than natural sweeteners. Excessive use of cyclamate could cause cancer and tumors. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence or absence of cyclamate content and levels in ready-to-drink herbal medicine without a brand sold in the Pamekasan City market. This research was conducted qualitatively with precipitation methods and quantitative with gravimetric methods. From qualitative research, the results of sample A found a white precipitate which indicated a positive sample containing cyclamate. While samples B and C found no deposits indicating that the sample was negative cyclamate. Furthermore, a positive sample was carried out quantitative testing. In determining cyclamate levels, sodium cyclamate levels in sample A were obtained at 4,8047 g/kg, so that the serving rate or per 1 bottle of herbal medicine contains 115,312 g/0,6 kg. This exceeded the threshold determined by BPOM Regulations which is 1,25 g/kg. The conclusion of this study was that 1 out of 3 positive samples contains cyclamate with levels that exceeded the threshold determined by BPOM RI No. 32 of 2019. Abstract

Candlenut (Aleurites moluccana) was a food ingredient widely used as a cooking spice. Candlenuts that were stored for too long rotted more easily and grew fungi, especially Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus. These types of fungi could produce mycotoxin compounds which were dangerous when consumed by humans. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence of aflatoxin content in candlenut (Aleurites moluccana) in the Karang Penang Sampang market. This research used total sampling. Candlenuts chosen as samples were all the candlenuts sold unwrapped by sellers in the Karang Penang market. This method used PDA media with the Pour Plate technique and an incubation time of 7 days. The results of the study showed 8 samples of candlenut with positive packaging containing the fungus Aspergillus niger with blackish-brown colonies and 1 sample of candlenut without positive packaging containing the fungus Aspergillus flavus with round yellowish-green colonies. In this study, it was concluded that the candlenuts circulating in the Karang Penang Sampang Market were positive for Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus. Abstract
