Abstract

The low learning outcomes of fourth-grade students in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nurul Hidayah, Jambi City, became the focus of this study. This issue was caused by teacher-centered learning, the dominance of lecture methods, and the lack of engaging learning media. This study aimed to improve students’ learning outcomes through the implementation of monopoly-based learning media. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects were fourth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation. The results showed an improvement in students’ learning outcomes in each cycle, with the average score increasing from 42.41 in the pre-cycle to 71.93 in Cycle I and 81.61 in Cycle II, with a learning completeness rate of 80.64%. These findings indicate that monopolybased learning media is effective in improving students’ learning outcomes in IPAS.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by the Snake and Ladder Game (SLG) media on the cognitive learning outcomes of students in Mathematics in grade II at MI Al-Munawwarah, Jambi City. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. There were 57 students in the study, divided into an experimental class and a control class. The experimental class was taught using the PBL model assisted by the SLG media, while the control class used the PBL model without the game media. Data collection was conducted through pre-tests and post-tests, while data analysis used descriptive and inferential statistics, including normality tests, homogeneity tests, Independent Sample t-Tests, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that the average post-test scores and N-Gain of the experimental class were higher than those of the control class. The t-test results obtained a significance value of 0.047 (< 0.05), which indicates a significant difference in learning outcomes. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the PBL model assisted by the Snake and Ladder Game media has a significant effect on improving students' cognitive learning outcomes in mathematics learning.

The data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation as supporting instruments. This research was conducted as a Classroom Action Research consisting of three cycles. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in children’s listening skills in each cycle. In Cycle I, Meeting 1, there were 4 children (40%) categorized as undeveloped, while 6 children (60%) were categorized as beginning to develop. In Cycle I, Meeting 2, 4 children (40%) were categorized as beginning to develop, while 6 children (60%) developed as expected. In Cycle II, Meeting 1, there were 3 children (30%) categorized as beginning to develop and 7 children (70%) developed as expected. Furthermore, in Cycle II, Meeting 2, 5 children (50%) developed as expected and 5 children (50%) developed very well. In Cycle III, Meeting 1, there were 3 children (30%) categorized as developing as expected, while 7 children (70%) developed very well. Finally, in Cycle III, Meeting 2, all 10 children (100%) were categorized as developing very well.
