Abstract

This essay aims to explore Eleonore Stump’s insights on narrative as a means of knowing others and to defend narrative cognitivism. Central to this defense is an examination of the narrative analysis in mediating second-person experience as a tool to gain both self-understanding and understanding others. This study is a combination of the expository, the analytical, and the critical methods. It is expository because it aims to understand how Stump explores the variant variable in seeking the meaning and explanation of human interaction. It is analytical because it examines how second-person experience can be communicated in narrative. And it is critical because it introduces a methodological concept in dealing with her thoughts and demonstrates in which sense her approach is tenable or not. In developing this approach, I introduce the second-person perspective and the nature of knowledge that is acquired through narrative. I conclude with a discussion of the contribution of narrative connectedness to the understanding of the other as a person. This article will show that narrative connectedness is a significant form of reasoning, a medium for understanding, and an instrument for self-expression.

Abstract

In the effort to explore the true dimensions of life, humans should not focus solely on the empirical and a priori levels. To achieve a deeper understanding, one must free oneself from all forms of attachment to things that are empirical and a priori. Deep reflection is necessary so that the fundamental principles can be discovered, leading to a more essential understanding of reality. This paper aims to analyze the metaphysical dimension contained within the dolop ritual. The findings of this study show that metaphysical reflection can overcome the limited view of reality that is apparent on the surface, which often feels "real" but is actually deceptive. Unknowingly, such views fall into the ideological realm that restricts and binds, causing humans to become trapped in the sacralization of space, time, and place that color the Kasada ritual ceremony. Based on these findings, the study of the metaphysical dimension continues by delving deeper into the existence and meaning of the symbols present. This exploration ultimately concludes that the metaphysical dimension in the dolop ritual of the Dayak Agabag community is, in fact, a representation or miniature of life itself. This ritual is not merely a ceremony, but a broader representation of life that must be understood in a deeper context.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Sako seng tradition is one of the local wisdom and cultural heritage of the Sikka people, East Nusa Tenggara. The principles of mutual cooperation, solidarity and peace in jointly cultivating agricultural land are unique to this tradition. However, the development of modernity and advances in agricultural technology bring challenges and obstacles to the preservation of this tradition, especially with the emergence of individualistic work patterns and the declining participation of the younger generation. This study examines the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi's thoughts, especially the principle of non-violence (ahimsa), and collective work as a philosophical foundation for the revitalization of sako seng as a distinctive tradition of the Sikka people. Gandhi's thought has a close correlation to this tradition as it emphasizes the importance of social change through peaceful means and collective consciousness, which is in line with the spirit of sako seng which rejects violence and prioritizes mutual cooperation. This research uses interviews and literature study methods. The results of this study show that an attitude of adaptation to the development of modernity and technology is necessary to maintain the spirit of solidarity and mutual cooperation of the Sikka community. In addition, policy support and community awareness, especially for the younger generation, determine the sustainability of the sako seng tradition. The integration of Gandhian values and local traditions not only enriches local heritage, but also becomes a moral foundation in building a harmonious and sustainable society amidst the changing times. Revitalizing the sako seng tradition is not only a matter of cultural enrichment but also ethical renewal in the face of modernity.
