Abstract

Callyspongia aerizusa is one of the sponge species that is spread across the Indonesian marine waters and rich in bioactive compounds such as secondary metabolites that is used in medicine field as antibacterial but still not widely used by the people. The improvement of bacteria resistant has been a serious problem in the medicine field, therefore there should be an improvement of a new antibiotic medicine from natural ingredients for the healt improvement. This research aims to find the activity of extracts of sponge Callyspongia aerizusa from the waters of Poopoh Village, Minahasa Regency against the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The growth of bacterial is tested by disc diffusion Kirby Bauer method and by observing the value of generated inhibition zone. From the result of the research, the extracts of Callyspongia aerizusa sponge has clear zone against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria of 8 mm in the concentration of 250 µg/disc, and the Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria has 9 mm in the concentration of 250 µg/disc which categorized as medium. It can be concluded that the Callyspongia aerizusa sponge has an metabolite compound with wide spectrum activity that can hinder the growth of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria

Abstract

Halimeda opuntia is a genus of seaweed from the Chlorophyta division that contains bioactive compounds that can be utilized in various fields, especially in medicine. This study was conducted with the aim of determining the antibacterial activity of Halimeda opuntia algae extracts obtained from coastal waters of Poopoh Village, Tombariri District, Minahasa Regency against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Samples were extracted by maceration method using 95% ethanol solvent. Antibacterial activity testing was conducted using the Kirby and Bauer Disc Diffusion method. The results showed that the average diameter of the inhibition zone against Pseudomonas aeruginosa test bacteria was 6.83 mm and for Staphylococcus aureus test bacteria was 8.58 mm, the inhibition zone that arose against these two bacteria was included in the medium inhibition category. Through this study, it can be concluded that ethanol extract has antibacterial activity against test bacteria, especially on Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Abstract

Spons Aaptos aaptos merupakan biota laut yang memiliki kemampuan menghasilkan senyawa bioaktif yang berpotensi tinggi sebagai sumber antioksidan alami. Antioksidan adalah senyawa yang dapat menetralkan radikal bebas sehingga tidak mengganggu metabolisme tubuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan spons Aaptos aaptos. Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimental laboratorium dengan pengujian terhadap ekstrak etanol spons Aaptos aaptos menggunakan metode DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl). Hasil analisis data nilai % inhibisi adalah 54,04% (2,5 ppm), 56,46% (5 ppm), 59,52% (10 ppm), 76,92 % (15 ppm), dan 78,25% (20 ppm). Aktivitas antioksidan tertinggi dicapai pada konsentrasi 20 ppm dengan nilai % inhibisi sebesar 78,25%. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa sampel spons Aaptos aaptos yang diperoleh dari Pantai Parentek Kabupaten Minahasa memiliki aktivitas antioksidan dan efektif sebagai antioksidan.
