Abstract

This research began with the author's anxiety regarding the low level of instillation and understanding of moral values ​​among students. This low understanding is demonstrated by students' treatment which is contrary to general morals and Christian morals in particular. Good moral understanding will certainly lead humans to respect the dignity of others. Therefore, through this study, the author voices the message conveyed by Pope Francis in the Dignitas Infinita document. This research was conducted among active students in the Catholic Religious Education study program, Pontianak State Catholic Religious College for the 2024/2024 Academic Year. The population of this research was 917 students and the sample of this research was 123 students. The method used in the research is a qualitative method, while the technique used to explore data is using a questionnaire. The data analysis technique used in the research is descriptive data analysis, meaning that the author explains the research data by linking the theory discussed in this research. The presentation of numbers and graphs is followed by the author's explanation and analysis to explain the research results in numerical form. The results of the research prove that students' understanding is still very low in terms of moral understanding, both general morals and Christian morals. So the author also suggests that future researchers conduct broader research on moral education implemented in Catholic families.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh keprihatinan peneliti terhadap keadaan lingkungan saat ini: ada polusi di mana-mana. Penyebab pencemaran lingkungan lainnya adalah berdampak pada kesehatan manusia dan kelangsungan keanekaragaman hayati. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kebiasaan pengelolaan sampah yang dilakukan umat Katolik. Metode Penelitian ini adalah motede penelitian kualitatif dan teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan proses wawancara. Wawancara dilakukan kepada Pastor Paroki dan delapan orang perwakilan umat Katolik dari Paroki Agustinus, Keuskupan Agung Pontianak. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Paroki telah berusaha semaksimal mungkin untuk mengimplementasikan nilai-nilai Laudato Si'. Misalnya saja mengadakan workshop dan pelatihan penerapan gaya hidup ramah lingkungan, tentu saja sejalan dengan nilai-nilai Laudato Si'. Namun tidak bisa dipungkiri masih ada masyarakat yang mengelola sampah dengan cara membakarnya. Hal ini disebabkan oleh tingginya tarif sampah, lokasi pembuangan sampah yang jauh, dan belum adanya pemisahan antara sampah organik dan anorganik. Peneliti mengambil kesimpulan bahwa kesadaran lingkungan umat Katolik terhadap perlindungan lingkungan dan pengelolaan limbah masih perlu ditingkatkan. Saran bagi peneliti selanjutnya adalah melakukan penelitian dengan tema serupa namun tetap memperhatikan aspek sosial, ekonomi dan budaya.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the religious character of sixth-grade students and explore their perceptions, along with those of the Catholic Religion teacher, regarding the role of spiritual pilgrimage activities in the development of religious character at SD Negeri 08 Cupang Gading, Sekadau Hulu. This research employed a qualitative approach through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The findings indicate that students demonstrate good religious character, as seen in their habits of praying before and after class, showing respect to teachers, and actively participating in religious education lessons. The spiritual pilgrimage activity provides a meaningful religious experience that reinforces students' spiritual values. Students reported feeling happy, peaceful, and inspired through shared prayers, scripture reflection, and interaction with nature and peers. Teachers affirmed that the pilgrimage effectively shapes religious values through contextual and experiential learning. These results support theories of experiential learning and character education, which emphasize that direct experiences significantly influence the formation of students’ values and attitudes. Therefore, spiritual pilgrimage activities are recommended as a strategic component in developing religious character in primary school education.
