Abstract

The sweet star fruit leaf plant (Averrhoa carambola L.) is a plant that has many benefits, one part of the plant that is often used is the leaves which contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins that can be made indo spray gel preparations. Spray gel or commonly called spray gel is a gel that has an aqueous phase of 10-90% of the weight of the spray preparation. This research aims to formulate a spray gel preparation of ethanol extract of sweet starfruit leaves (Averrhoa carambola L.) by testing the physical stability of the spray gel preparation. The formulation of spray gel preparations of sweet starfruit leaf extract (Averrhoa carambola L.) with concentrations of 0.1%, 1% and 1.5% was researched using laboratory experimental methods. Physical stability tests of spray gel preparations include organoleptic tests, pH tests, homogeneity tests, viscosity tests, spray pattern tests, dry time tests, cycling tests and centrifugation tests. The results of testing the physical stability of spray gel preparations for each formula fall within the range of requirements for spray gel preparations. To test the physical stability of the spray gel preparation after the cycling test, the viscosity test and pH test for each formula showed a decrease in each formula, while the organoleptic test did not show a significant change in each formula after the cycling test. The centrifugation test results for each formula showed that it was stable, indicated by the absence of syneresis or phase separation. Based on research, it was found that at the highest concentration the spray gel preparation of ethanol extract of sweet star fruit leaves (Averrhoa crambola L.) had a good physical stability test.

Abstract

Cosmetic products in the form of cream preparations containing antioxidant compounds have been developed to prevent premature aging of the skin. One of these plants is the gotu kola plant which can be used as a source of natural antioxidants. The active compounds contained in gotu kola leaves are flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, triterpenoids, terpenoids which have been developed into dosage forms suitable for cream products. To determine the formulation of gotu kola leaf extract cream as an antioxidant. This research is experimental research. This experiment is based on extraction, formulation, preparation evaluation tests including organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, viscosity, spreadability, adhesive power. Then an antioxidant test was carried out. Statistical analysis was carried out using the ANOVA method. The research results show that gotu kola leaf extract can be formulated into cream preparations with various base variations that meet the requirements for good preparation evaluation. The antioxidant test results showed the IC50 FI value was 34.04 ppm, F2 30.27 ppm, F3 26.43 ppm. Statistical test results show significant antioxidant value, namely <0.05.

Abstract

One of the inflammatory diseases that occurs in the pilosebaceous unit is acne. One of the bacteria that causes acne is Propionibacterium acnes. Katuk leaves contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins and alkaloids which can be used as an acne treatment. One of the pharmaceutical preparations that can be used to treat acne is serum. The aim of this research is to formulate katuk leaf extract into a serum preparation, determine the physical quality characteristics of the serum preparation and then determine the antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. The research method used is experimental. Katuk leaves were extracted by maceration method with 70% ethanol then serum preparations were made with various extract concentrations, namely FI 40%, FII 60% and FIII 80% on the basis of serum xanthan gum. The physical quality test of the serum preparation including organoleptic, pH, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesion and viscosity was carried out, then the antibacterial activity test of Propionibacterium acnes was carried out with positive control of clindamycin 10 µg/disk, negative control of 5% DMSO using disc diffusion method. The results of this study indicate that the formula has a semi-solid form, the color of FI is brownish green, FII is dark green and FIII is blackish green with a distinctive aroma of the extract, the formulation is homogeneous, has a pH, spreadability, adhesion and viscosity that meets the requirements of a good serum. The results of the antibacterial activity test showed that the negative control had no inhibition zone, the positive control showed a strong inhibition zone of 20.09 and the katuk leaf extract serum formulation had a moderate inhibition zone of FI 18.11, FII 19.21 and FIII 19.36 the greater the inhibition zone produced due to the higher concentration of the extract made. The results of statistical analysis of variations in extract concentrations showed significant differences in the inhibition zone based on One Way Anova statistical analysis (p<0.05).

Abstract

White turi is a plant that contains active substances that act as antibacterials, including saponins, flavonoids and tannins which can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Currently, the use of natural ingredients in cosmetic preparations has been developed. One of the cosmetic preparations that has developed recently is serum. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of serum 70% ethanol extract of white turi leaves (Sesbania grandiflora L) against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This research method is experimental research. White turi leaves were extracted using the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The 70% ethanol extract of white turi leaves was made into serum with a concentration of 2%, 4%, 8% and the physical quality was evaluated including organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, viscosity and the antibacterial activity of the serum was tested using the paper disk diffusion method. The results of the research on the formulation of the serum preparation are brownish yellow in color, have a distinctive odor of 70% ethanol extract of white turi leaves and are slightly thick, homogeneous, with a pH value = 5.65-5.86, spreadability = 5.3-6.33, viscosity = 341.66-466.46 and the inhibition zone for antibacterial activity of formula 1 is 9.48 mm (medium), formula 2 is 12.50 mm (strong) and formula 3 is 14.46 mm (strong). Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that all serum formulas of 70% ethanol extract of white turi leaves can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in the medium-strong category and the serum formula of 70% ethanol extract of white turi leaves (Sesbania grandiflora L) has the best activity on growth. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is formula 3 with a concentration of 8% with an inhibition zone of 14.46 mm (strong).
