Abstract

This research contributes to complementing the study of realism in international relations through bandwagoning by analyzing interdependence in the alliance of Muslim countries in the Middle East. The United States, as a dominant power, always takes part in the political map in the Middle East, which is considered strategic, by offering political, military, and economic assistance. The response of countries in the Middle East varies, depending on their national agendas and diplomatic relations. In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, several Muslim countries in the Middle East lost the value of impartial justice and depended on the interests of allies with the United States. The principle of independent justice has become blurred, leading to bias in the actions of Muslim countries that tend to support the United States. This research uses the concept of bandwagoning popularized by Kenneth Waltz in Theory of International Politics. This alliance contributes to the value of justice to follow the dominant power rather than uphold justice in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The method used in this research is qualitative, with a descriptive approach based on secondary data collection. The analysis in this research compares several specific phenomena in the Middle East region, focusing on Muslim countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and Bahrain. This study uses national interest mapping to show that the interdependence of Muslim countries choosing to ally with the United States influences political actions and decisions without regard to the principle of impartial justice.

Abstract

This research focuses on global environmental issues that impact the local level, both in urban and rural areas. Various elements of society are expected to play an active role in responding to global environmental issues, one of which is driven by a religious based organization, Lembaga Penanggulangan Bencana dan Perubahan Iklim Nahdlatul Ulama (LPBI NU) Jombang. The purpose of this research is to examine the role of LPBI NU Jombang in responding to global environmental issues. This research uses the transnational environmental concept by Reiner Grundmann, which links global environmental issues not only the responsibility of government actors but also emphasizes the framework of cooperation between various elements and transnational actors, both governmental and non-governmental actors. This research used qualitative methods and descriptive analysis. Data collection techniques in this research used literature studies and in-depth interview with the head of LPBI NU Jombang. The results of this study indicate that LPBI NU Jombang plays an active role as an agent of change to environmental issues in Jombang. Some programs initiated by LPBI NU Jombang include GASPOL, JAMSENA, and Madrasah Tangguh Bencana. The activities are a collaboration between multi-actors with adapting local conditions. Although the issues and guidelines used by LPBI NU Jombang are international, the resulting solutions prioritize local values to ensure targeted effectiveness.

Abstract

As is known, historically Indonesia has taken an active role in mediating the conflict between the two countries. The role taken in this case is sending peacekeeping troops to the Middle East, especially to mediate the conflict between Israel and Palestine. The background of this conflict itself began with the founding of the state of Israel in May 1948, or three years after World War II. Israel's existence in the Middle East region then sparked controversy due to their expansion in several regions, particularly their annexation of Palestinian territories. This situation then attracted international attention, various sympathy and steps taken in an effort to resolve this conflict, including Indonesia. Indonesia, which includes the principle of anti-colonialism in its constitution, also took diplomatic and humanitarian steps to resolve this, from negotiations to the deployment of peacekeeping troops. The method used in this paper is library research through data obtained through literature review techniques, which are then processed based on the formulation of the underlying problem. From this research, it was found that Indonesia took many steps and played a role in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, regardless of the results that were later achieved
