Abstract

Cream is a semi-solid preparation, using an emulsion containing not less than 60% water. Salicylic acid, an anti-acne and keratolic agent, is commonly administered topically. This study aims to analyze salicylic acid levels in anti-acne creams sold online and in pharmacies. Quantitative Testing uses UV -Vis Spectrophotometry and Alkalimetry. Quantitative testing using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, there were 3 samples sold in pharmacies containing salicylic acid with sample levels A 1.568%, B 1.755%, C 0.895%, and samples sold online contained salicylic acid with sample levels D 0.151%. Alkalimetric quantitative testing, 3 samples sold in pharmacies contained salicylic acid with sample levels A 0.71%, B 0.36%, C 0.48%, and samples sold online contained salicylic acid with sample levels D 0, 42 %. Based on BPOM requirements, the permitted level of salicylic acid in cosmetics does not exceed 2%, so the anti-acne cream product meets BPOM requirements. The salicylic acid level was tested using Uv-Vis spectrophotometry and analyzed using Kruskal Wallis with a significance value of 0.00 (P0.05). It was said that the spectrophotometric method influenced determining the salicylic acid level from samples A – D. The salicylic acid level used alkalimetry. Homogeneity test with the Homogeneity of Variances test with a significance value of P (0.104 - 0.05) homogeneous data. Data were analyzed using ANOVA. The results of the One Way Anova test analysis show a significance value of 0.00 (P 0.05), so the salicylic acid levels of samples A – D carried out using alkalimetry show a significant difference between the 4 samples tested.

Abstract

Processed fruits that are packaged in cans which aims to extend the durability of the fruit. Usually, heavy metals are used as the constituent materials of the cans, namely tin as the body of the can, lead to connect the lid and body of the can and chromium to coat the tin. So it is necessary to pay attention to safety and its effect on canned fruit packaging. This study was conducted to determine the feasibility of canned packaged fruit for consumption and compare the results with the provisions of the Food and Drug Administration regulation number 9 of 2022. The samples used were canned peach, canned longan and canned lychee. The samples were taken randomly in Pekanbaru with different expiry dates. Samples were analyzed by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Tin metal concentrations in PKK 1, PKK 2, KKK 1, KKK 2, LKK 1 and LKK 2 were 209.90 mg/kg, 190.13 mg/kg, 151.75 mg/kg, 86.75 mg/kg, 250.57 mg/kg and 116.19 mg/kg respectively. lead metal concentrations were only found in KKK 1, KKK 2 and PKK 2 at 0.042 mg/kg, 0.0083 mg/kg and 0.11 mg/kg respectively. The chromium metal content in the samples in order are 0.36 mg/kg, 0.42 mg/kg, 0.80 mg/kg, 0.21 mg/kg, 0.22 mg/kg and 0.52 mg/kg of canned packaged fruit that has metal levels exceeding the threshold of tin metal in sample LKK 1, lead metal in sample PKK 2, and KKK 2 and chromium with samples PKK 1, KKK 1 and LKK 2. It is concluded that canned packaged fruit is not suitable for consumption. Because it exceeds the limit of the provisions of the Food and Drug Administration regulation number 9 of 2022

Abstract

Aloe vera (Aloe vera) is a medicinal plant known to possess bioactive compounds with potential antioxidant activity. This study was designed to formulate aloe vera extract into topical gel preparations at different concentrations and to evaluate their antioxidant activity using the DPPH radical scavenging assay. Gel formulations were prepared containing 0% (F0), 1% (F1), and 4% (F2) extract, with Carbopol 940 utilized as the gelling polymer. Physicochemical characterization of the gels included evaluation of pH, viscosity, spreadability, and adhesiveness. Antioxidant activity was quantitatively determined using the DPPH method. The results demonstrated that all gel formulations met organoleptic and pH specifications and exhibited adequate physical stability. Increasing extract concentration led to an increase in viscosity and adhesiveness, accompanied by a reduction in spreadability. The antioxidant assay revealed IC₅₀ values are F0 216.09 µg/mL, F1,147.70 µg/mL, F2 99.75 µg/m and Vitamine C 16.40 µg/mL. These findings indicate that the aloe vera extract gel at a concentration of 4% possesses strong antioxidant activity and appropriate physicochemical properties for topical pharmaceutical application

Abstract

Heavy metal contamination in aquatic environments has become a serious issue due to its potential adverse effects on human health through the food chain. This study aims to determine the concentrations of lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), and copper (Cu) in catfish (Pangasius hypopthalmus) collected from three different locations: floating cages under the Rantau Berangin Bridge, the Danau Bingkuang Bridge, and a cultivation pond in Silam Village. The samples were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) after digestion with a microwave digester. The results showed Pb concentrations in samples JRB 1, JRB 2, JDB 1, JDB 2, KDS 1, and KDS 2 were 479 mg/kg; 16.27 mg/kg; 165.68 mg/kg; 356.21 mg/kg; 99.6 mg/kg; and 336.57 mg/kg, respectively. Zn concentrations were 8.05 mg/kg; 0 mg/kg; 2.45 mg/kg; 1.09 mg/kg; 24.3 mg/kg; and 0.490 mg/kg, while Cu concentrations were 2.84 mg/kg; 2.81 mg/kg; 1.76 mg/kg; 0 mg/kg; 15.65 mg/kg; and 0 mg/kg, respectively. All Pb levels exceeded the maximum limit set by SNI 2729:2021, which is 0.3 mg/kg. Meanwhile, Zn and Cu levels remained within safe limits based on the decree of the Director General of BPOM No. 03725/B/SK/VII/89. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that heavy metal contamination, particularly by Pb, was present in the tested samples, rendering them unsuitable for consumption without further monitoring and testing
