Abstract

IPAS outcomes in Class IV SDN 021 Sungai Kunjang are still relatively low. This is caused by learning activities that are not varied, resulting in a lack of student interest in learning and teachers' lack of knowledge about the latest learning approaches and models. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) approach in improving IPAS learning outcomes for class IV SDN 021 Sungai Kunjang in terms of changes in energy forms. This research is using experimental method. The research design used was a non-equivalent pre test – post test control group design. The instrument is in the form of essay questions. The data analysis techniques in this research are Validity Test, Reliability Test, Normality Test, Homogeneity Test, Hypothesis Test, and N-Gain Test. Based on research results, learning IPAS using the STEAM approach obtained an average score of 85,86, while learning IPAS without using the STEAM approach obtained an average score of 70,93. The results of this research indicate that the STEAM approach is effective in terms of student learning outcomes as evidenced by the results of the independent sample t test, which obtained a sig value. (2-tailed) of 0,001 ˂ 0,05 then H1 is accepted. The level of effectiveness of this research is also proven by the N-Gain test of 0,67 with the criteria being quite effective. So it can be concluded that the STEAM approach is effective in improving IPAS learning outcomes for class IV students at SDN 021 Sungai Kunjang.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to create STEM-based science e-modules contains East Kalimantan-specific concepts, such as habitats, ecosystems, resource use, environmental pollution, and fauna conservation. In addition, this research also evaluates how students’ response as user to the use of e-modules. This study uses the Borg and Gall research and development (RnD) model, which is only applicable to the main product revision stage in this paper. Student answer questionnaires, material and media expert validation sheets were the instruments utilized in this investigation. Three experts who taught the discipline of biology education and computer education validated the work of material and media specialists. According to the validators' evaluation, the final module is valid and very testable, with the average percentage of media expert review is 97.62%. and content expert review is 87.50%. 11 students from the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program, FKIP, Mulawarman University, participated in the e-module trial phase. According to the answer questionnaire, the created e-module received a positive response with an average percentage of 90.77%, placing it in the satisfactory range and making It is safe for use as a learning resource in the instructional process.AbstrakTujuan dari penelitian adalah untuk mengembangkan e-modul STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematic) pada beberapa topik tertentu meliputi habitat, ekosistem, pemanfaatan sumber daya alam, pencemaran lingkungan dan konservasi fauna khas kalimantan timur, dan menemukan dampak e-modul pada respon penggunanya yaitu mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma pengembangan Borg and Gall, yang merupakan jenis penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D) yang kami batasi hanya sampai pada tahap 5 yakni tahap revisi produk. Kuesioner tanggapan pengguna, lembar validasi ahli materi dan media digunakan dalam pengambilan data penelitian. Validasi pakar materi dan media dilakukan oleh 3 orang pakar yang merupakan dosen prodi pendidikan biologi dan pendidikan komputer. Berdasarkan penilaian para pakar selaku validator, modul akhir dinyatakan valid dan sangat dapat diuji coba skala besar, dengan rata-rata persentase dari pakar media sebesar 97,62%. Pakar pada materi juga menyatakan rerata persentase yang tinggi yaitu 87,50%. Sebelas mahasiswa dari Program Studi Pendidikan Guru Sekolah Dasar, FKIP, Universitas Mulawarman, mengikuti tahap uji coba kelompok kecil e-modul. Berdasarkan angket respon pengguna, e-modul yang dibuat mendapat respon yang sangat positif dengan persentase rata-rata 90,77%, sehingga diputuskan layak untuk digunakan sebagai sumber belajar dalam proses pembelajaran.How To Cite: Suhartini, E., Haerani, R.P.R. Abstract

Purpose – The study examines the self-efficacy in STEM skills and the motivation of elementary school student in science learning on the theme of sustainable cities, highlighting gender and regional differences in East Kalimantan to understand the opportunities, challenges, and their implications for inclusive and sustainable learning.Methodology – This study employed a mixed-methods approach with a cross-sectional, explanatory, sequential design, involving 450 students and 8 teachers from elementary schools in Kutai Kartanegara, Samarinda, and Balikpapan. Data were collected through validated self-efficacy and motivation questionnaires and teacher interviews, then analyzed descriptively (SPSS) and thematically using joint display integration to illustrate students' self-efficacy and motivation dynamics across gender and regional contexts. Qualitative findings complemented the quantitative results by capturing teachers’ perspectives on instructional practices and classroom barriers to STEM implementation.Findings – Findings reveal that while students generally demonstrate high levels of self-efficacy and motivation, there is a subtle gap: female students exhibit lower confidence in engineering tasks, mathematical self-efficacy remains moderate across all genders, and little disparity is evident between urban and non-urban learners. Students are highly motivated by activities that are enjoyable, challenging, and hands-on; however, traditional teaching methods and limited adoption of innovative STEM approaches—including project-based and game-based learning—constrain these benefits.Contribution– When supported by differentiated and inclusive learning environments, such approaches enhance self-efficacy, foster critical thinking, and increase engagement. These findings underscore the need for pedagogical transformation in elementary STEM education to address gender and regional gaps while maximizing students’ confidence, motivation, and preparedness for future academic and career pathways.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to develop and evaluate a context-based scientific literacy assessment instrument on the topic of global warming for sixth-grade elementary school students, employing the Rasch model to examine its validity, reliability, item difficult levels, and Differential Item Functioning (DIF). Methodology: The research design followed a systematic instrument development procedure supported by Rasch model analysis. The instrument comprised 20 multiple-choice items based on the OECD scientific literacy framework and was piloted with 26 sixth-grade students. Data were analyzed using Ministep to examine validity, reliability, item difficult, and Differential Item Functioning (DIF). Main Findings: The findings show that most items satisfied the validity criteria based on Outfit MNSQ, ZSTD and PTM Corr indices. Item difficulty levels were proportionally distributed from very easy to very difficult. Reliability analysis yielded a person reliability of 0.70, an item reliability of 0.72, and a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.78. DIF analysis indicated that all items were free from gender bias. As a pilot study with a limited sample from one school, these results represent preliminary evidence rather than as a final validation of the instrument. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study aims to develop and evaluate a scientific literacy test specifically designed for elementary school students on the topic of global warming using Rasch analysis, an area that remains limited in prior research. The instrument integrates real-life contextual situations aligned with current curriculum demands and has the potential to strengthen scientific literacy assessment practices at the elementary education level.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to develop and validate an e-module based on Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) for fifth-grade elementary science learning on sound and its properties, and to assess its validity through expert assessments of the material, media, and language aspects. Methodology: This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, using a modified 4D model comprising the Define, Design, and Development stages. The e-module was created with digital design tools and incorporated Project-Based Learning (PjBL) and Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) approaches. Data collection involved expert validation sheets and questionnaires, which were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods and percentage calculations. Main Findings: The validation results demonstrated that the developed e-module received high validity scores from experts: 97% from material experts, 92% from media experts, and 95% from language experts. These findings suggest that the e-module is highly valid, suitable, and feasible as a learning resource in elementary science education, especially for the topic of sound and its properties. Novelty/Originality of this study: The novelty of this study lies in the integration of Project-Based Learning and Socio-Scientific Issues within a single interactive e-module design for elementary science learning. This integration provides contextual, inquiry-based learning experiences that connect abstract scientific concepts with real-world issues, thereby enhancing conceptual understanding and supporting meaningful learning in elementary education.
