Abstract

Public information is one of the government's efforts to provide public information regarding their performance and activities. However, even some regulations guide them, practice in public information management has not been optimal considering the information risks and threats, such as disclosing inappropriate information. For this reason, the literature study seeks to explore some efforts that can be made in information management, especially in Indonesia. This qualitative study tries to categorize and describe the management of public information in risk management and public information security in terms of technological management, process management, and human resource management. Technological management is expected to have an information system capable of providing a sense of security from threats, both malware and in building an effective system. Process management includes procedures, auditing, and a holistic approach to realizing effective public information management. Finally, human resource management emphasizes the importance of improving the quality of agents through training and leadership to act not only as a leader but also as a navigator and a translator of public information management. This study proposes a conceptual model based on those themes to minimize the effects of risks and threats on public information. Limitations and suggestions for future research are also discussed.

Abstract

An organization experiences changes on a constant basis. The institution is driven to adapt and survive in this competitive environment by both internal and external stimuli. To manage organisational change, leaders play a crucial role. However, more research is still needed in the field of how leaders react and communicate in the context of organizational change, particularly in the public institution. In explaining leadership communication in organizational change, existing studies frequently use widely accepted views such as leadership styles that frequently contradict one another. Therefore, this research aims to investigate how leadership communication is carried out in the context of organizational change. How a public organization prepares for and integrates into a new government organization is investigated using qualitative and interpretive methods with a case study method. The role of leadership communication in managing organizational change was examined from a sensemaking point of view. In order to gain a complete picture of leadership communication, 17 participants were interviewed at different organizational levels. By demonstrating how leaders navigate an organization's managerial change discourse by integrating their bracketed information from various relevant sources, choosing information, and reconstructing information through communication, this article makes a valuable contribution to the literature on leadership communication.

Abstract

Coffee cropping is very sensitive to global warming, thus affecting coffee growers, particularly women farmers and their economies. As unpredictable weather continues to limit the suitability of the majority of traditional coffee-growing regions, women farmers are applying climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practices as a means of climate change mitigation and adaptation through healthy soil identification. Healthy soil is an important indicator that determines the  sustainability of coffee cropping under CSA practices. This study determined women farmers’ knowledge of soil health indicators and perspectives on CSA practices in the coffee cropping region of Sumatra, Indonesia. The qualitative analysis based on the interviews and focus group discussions from 90 women farmers revealed that the most common soil health indicators were soil color and soil organic matter, while the least common was soil ecology. The best climate-smart coffee cropping practices were from the agroforestry system and the least were observed in the long-term conventional tillage system. Over 80% of women farmers express a strong belief in the effectiveness of soil health indicators for implementing successful climate-smart farming methods. The majority of the women recognized the importance of the use of cover crops and strategies to prevent soil erosion. Knowledge about the benefits of soil amendments and intercropping was limited. Women farmers need to have more opportunities for training on various aspects in soil management as a mechanism for climate change adaptation as well as to improve their land for the sustainability of coffee production and their resilience in coffee farming. In order for the farm communities to make the full transition to CSA practices, the success factors and benefits of this management must be demonstrated to the coffee farmers.

Abstract

Nowadays, many organizations seek to accelerate the employees’ communication effectiveness. However, only a few put efforts into reducing communication apprehension and understanding their potential in leadership. This paper seeks to investigate the correlation between communication apprehension and leadership styles, and consequently tries to investigate its impact on individuals’ success in a job recruitment test. A total of 114 participants were gathered in an online survey from a government institution’s recruitment process. The inferential statistic tests (ANOVA) were used to determine differences in leadership styles and their communication apprehension based on respondents’ success in the recruitment process. Results showed that respondents who have high communication apprehension would display task-oriented leadership behaviors and were tended to be more focusing on their role and performance, while the lower communication apprehension indicated more relation-oriented leadership behaviors. Moreover, applicants with a relational leadership style would likely pass a job recruitment test and were more likely to have a successful result in a recruitment process than ones with a task-oriented leadership style. Additionally, this research also gives a glimpse of communication apprehension study in non-western countries. The findings suggest a need for organizations in addressing these issues in order to develop their employees’ communication capacity. Limitations and future research are also discussed in this paper.

Abstract

A company is developing a strategy for product introduction to a crowded audience. An effective promotional method involves endorsements by prominent figures such as celebrities and community leaders. The company utilizes its service, branded as Shipper, to deliver products. Pair Gram and a currently trending YouTuber serve as endorsers for the product. The endorsers in question are Fiki Naki and Dayana. However, disputes arose between the endorsers, leading to misunderstandings in the digital realm. This conflict resulted in many followers expressing dissatisfaction and unfollowing Dayana's account. The objective of the study is to analyze digital advertising's impact on brand credibility and consumer response to Shipper's products using ethnographic methods. The methodology involves detailed observation of social media data from Instagram, particularly the comment sections on Fiki Naki's endorsement content. The study's findings indicate that the brand credibility associated with Fiki Naki and Dayana received negative feedback from their followers in the comments. Followers perceived the endorsed products as inauthentic, viewing the videos as mere entertainment rather than genuine endorsements. The findings highlight two key concepts, consumer understanding of endorsement activities and the professionalism inherent in endorsement collaborations.

Abstract

Understanding their impact on leadership dynamics is crucial as digital platforms become increasingly integral to political communication. This study systematically analyzes existing literature to identify key trends, influential authors, and prominent themes in the field. By employing quantitative methods, we assess the growth of publications related to social media leadership in political contexts, highlighting the evolution of strategies used by political leaders to engage with constituents. A comprehensive collection of 608 articles was gathered from peer-reviewed journals spanning a range of publication years from 2005 to October 2024 to clarify longitudinal trends thoroughly. The findings illustrate the relation between social media leadership and successful campaign outcomes, emphasizing the role of digital engagement in modifying public perception. Additionally, the review uncovers gaps in the current research, suggesting areas for future investigation, such as the ethical implications of social media tactics and the role of misinformation. This paper gives insights into a broader understanding of leadership in both the political and digital age, providing valuable insights for scholars, professionals, and policymakers navigating the complexities of social media in political campaigns.
