Abstract

Learning English in Indonesia has unique challenges and opportunities. English is taught in most elementary to tertiary schools as a compulsory subject. Several skills will be taught in this research regarding mastering reading. These English reading skills involve several vital aspects that students must master to understand texts effectively. The description about students difficulties in reading English text in SMA N 1 Tondano realizes the reseacher to conduct a research emphazing to what difficulties of reading skills faced by students in studying expository text. This research uses a qualitative approach which aims to understand students' difficulties in reading. The subject of this research are 20 students of XI Grade in SMA N 1 Motoling. From the aforementioned findings, there are several highly significant results regarding students' challenges in writing. Analytical expository text consists of three components, specifically thesis, argumentation, and reiteration. there are various factors that contribute to students' struggles in determining the main topic, particularly a limited vocabulary that hinders their ability to read the text and comprehend its message

Abstract

Speaking is one of the essential skills in learning a language, as it plays a crucial role in effective communication. However, many students face challenges in developing their speaking skills, such as lack of confidence, limited vocabulary, and insufficient opportunities for practice. As a result, researchers and educators are increasingly using role-play method as a tool for teaching foreign language. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the role-play method in improving students’ speaking skill. This study was delimited on the teaching speaking skills using role-play method at the seven grade of SMP Negeri 3 Tareran. This study was conducted using quantitative method. Furthermore, the design of this study was pre-experimental with one group pretest dan posttest, which consisted 16 students were the subject of this study. The result of this study showed that the mean score in the posttest was higher (80.44) than mean score of pretest (50.19). Based on the result, it can be concluded that the use of role-play can improve students’ speaking skills.

Abstract

Reading is the process of getting information by understanding the meaning of the text being read, reading is called receptive skills and these skills basically are the ways in which people extract meaning. Reading comprehension is defined as the ability to analyze text, comprehend its meaning, and integrate it with prior knowledge.‘ Teaching Reading Comprehension in order to help their pupils become better readers and to increase their reading comprehension in accordance with their English reading ability'. Improve is make something better in this case especially to make someone better in reading through scanning technique. It is commonly acknowledged that one of the techniques in reading is scanning technique. The technique is needed not only to overcome students’ difficulties, but also to improve students’ reading comprehension. Scanning is the technique for quickly finding specific information in a text while ignoring its broader meaning, it searches for keywords or idea in a written text. In addition use scanning technique is effective in improve students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine whether TikTok can improve students' vocabulary mastery. With the rise of social media as an innovative educational resource, TikTok's engaging video format presents a unique opportunity for language learning. This is a quantitative study using pre-test and post-test design through written test in a form of Multiple Choice, fill in the blank, Mix and Match question and questionnaire. The subjects of this study consisted of 18 students from Class 10 at SMA Negeri 1 Tatoareng.The highest score on the pre-test was 50, while the lowest score was 20. In contrast, the post-test results showed a remarkable improvement, with the highest score reaching 100 and the lowest score being 80 while the mean score for the pre-test was 40, and the mean score for the post-test go up till to 85. These results indicate significant improvements, leading to the conclusion that TikTok is an effective learning medium for enhancing English vocabulary mastery among students at SMA N 1 Tatoareng.
