Abstract

English is one of the most important languages in the world. It can because as a language in any part of the world. That is why it is taught at all levels of education in our country, Indonesia. The purpose of the research was to find out whether the use of songs could increase the student's mastery of vocabulary or not. In conducting this research, quantitative research was used. The subject of this study were the childrens at the “ETTY” TondanozOrphanage which consisted of 20 children. The instrument of collecting data was in the form pre-test and post-test. The tests were in the form fill-in test with missing words. The result of this research showed that the mean scores in the post-test was higher (80) than those of pre-test (46). It could be concluded that, the use of song was effective to increase student's vocabulary mastery because it could be stimulated students in learning and encourage them to be able to memorize the word.from the conclusions above,hopefully in the future this method will often be applied in the teaching and learning process so that it is easier for students to increase vocabulary

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out whether the use of role play could improve the students’ speaking ability or not. The goal of this study was to see if students' speaking improved after using role play. The quantitative method was used to conduct this study. This study used a pre-experimental design with a single group pre-test and post-test. The subject of this research was second grade of SMP Anugrah Tondano which consisted of 10 students. The tests were in the form fill in test with dialogue. The result of this research showed that the mean scores in the post-test was higher (76) than those of pre-test (45). It was found that students' speaking ability was still low before using Role play technique; however, it was found that students' speaking ability improved after implementing Role play technique. It could be concluded that, the use of role play was effective to increase students’ speaking ability

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not using Mime Game can improve students’ vocabulary mastery on descriptive text. The subjects of this research were one class of the seventh grade that consisted of 36 students at SMP Negeri 2 Tompaso. This was quantitative research of pre-test and post-test with pre-experimental design. The data pre-test and post-test were collected using a 50 item Fill-in-the-blank test. The results of this research indicate that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The results of mean score showed improvement between the pre-test (42.7) and the post-test (85.05), with the post-test score higher than the pre-test. Therefore, it can be said that the use of the Mime Game was effective in improving students' vocabulary. English teacher should teach Vocabulary by using mime games with descriptive text by using simple English' and not always using monotonous text or handbook to help students remember words more easily

Abstract

The study was done in the two purpose, first to describe types of task vocabulary that help students widen and deepen on their stock of vocabulary and second is to describe which type of vocabulary is the most dominant from textbook namely “Bahasa Inggris X edisi revisi 2017” for tenth grade in senior high school. In this study, quantitative content analysis was use because the data presented in the form of number or percentages. The source of data as in the textbook namely Bahasa Inggris x edisi revisi 2017. This study used descriptive analysis approach in analyzing the data. It means that this study was focus on tasks vocabulary found only in the textbook as written, not in general. The result shows: first, tasks vocabulary in the textbook consisted of two types: vocabulary builder and vocabulary exercise. Each of the types consisted of 16 tasks vocabulary. Thus, there were 32 tasks vocabulary in all. Second, tasks vocabulary that was the most dominant were sentence completion with 13 tasks (41%). What is interesting is that new words introduced in vocabulary builder section was repeated in a number of contexts: reading texts, reading comprehension questions, pronunciation section, vocabulary tasks, grammar tasks, and speaking tasks. This is in line with the principles of vocabulary learning: the Principle of Re-contextualization and the Principle of Multiple Encounters

Abstract

This research was conducted to the eleven grade student especially in science class of SMA Negeri 1 Tenga in the academic year of 2021-2022 odd semester. There were 28 students chosen as the sample of this research. To fulfil the purpose of the research, the researcher took experimental research involved one class to be given treatment. The data were obtained through pre-test and post-test. The hypothesis of this research indicated that there was a significant difference between the score of the pre-test and post-test. The score of the post-test got higher than the pre-test. The mean score of pre- test was 62.21 and the mean score of post-test was 79.25. Based on the results, the researcher concluded that teaching simple present tense by using transformation drill technique was effective because it can improve students’ ability in making simple present tense sentences correctly. And these techniques are appropriate to be applied.

Abstract

The research intends to find out whether or not mind mapping technique can improve students’ reading comprehension. The study is a pre-experimental design using one group pre-test and post-test design. The research is conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Touluaan and the subject of the study is twenty six students. To collect the data, the writers use an objective test in the form of multiple choice consisted of 10 numbers. Pre-test is given before the treatment. After treatment the students are given post-test. The mean score of the pre-test is 4.23 and the standard deviation is 1.34. Meanwhile, the mean score of post-test is 6.96 and the standard deviation is 1.09. It could be said that the result of post-test is much better or higher than those of pre-test. So, it is concluded that mind mapping technique is effective to be used in improving students’ reading comprehension. Teachers of English at junior high school are recommended to use mind technique in teaching reading comprehension to help the students improve understanding of a reading text and make them active in reading activities.

Abstract

This research aims at describing students’ perceptions towards using information and communication technology in speaking skill development. The researchers use a qualitative research design with a non-experimental research. The population of this research is the students of EnglishEducationDepartment UNIMA and the sample is 30 respondents who experienced using ICT in their speaking skill development. The data are collected by using questionnaire as the research instrument. The result of this study indicates that students agreed that they can easily access English learning platforms with ICT and practice speaking. They experience positive use of ICT in practicing speaking and even develop their speaking skills because ICT helps students to recognize their mistakes, learn correct pronounciation, learn more vocabulary, and build a regular speaking practice.

Abstract

This research is intended to reveal how a character named James Durie can demonstrate what ambition and causes it. The study uses qualitative research methods. The study also employes a psychological approach and employed the Ludwig Klages the psychological theory of personality and supporting theory about ambitions by Widarso to explain and support the study on an ambition met by a character named James Durie in The Master of Ballantrae: A Winter’s Tale novel. This study suggests that James Durie, as a character capable of meeting all the criteria of his ambition ranging physiological needs, love, honor, position, property and all that he desires must manifest so that, as can be seen by the characteristics of ambitious people in one’s own self-interest, it can be deduced from this study that James Durie or The Master of Ballantrae had the ambition reflected in this novel.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to reveal how the main character Estella can show her selfactualization in Disney’s Cruella movie. This study uses a qualitative research method. This study also uses a psychological approach and uses Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory which is useful to explain and support this research on self-actualization that is fulfilled by the main character in the Disney’s Cruella movie. The results of this study indicate that Estella as the main character is able to fulfill all her needs from physiological needs, security needs, belongingness and love needs also her esteem needs to fulfill her self-actualization as seen from the characteristics of a self-actualizing person. It can be concluded from the results of this research that Estella or Cruella has achieved self-actualization in the Disney’s Cruella movie.

Abstract

This research aims to determine whether the final exam that is given by the teacher to students can encourage students to think critically. This research was conducted in Tondano. The method used in this research was the quantitative method. The researcher took the data from about English language exam consisting of 40 questions. In 40 questions there are 5 kinds of test that is examined. Research using the theory of Bloom's Taxonomy. After being analyzed based on the theory of bloom’s taxonomy, all the contents of the questions contain 100% knowledge. In 40 questions there is no comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, or even evaluation. The test results showed that the 40 questions are at the level of low order thinking because it's a matter of the English exam is otherwise not able to encourage the students in critical thinking according to the theory of Bloom's Taxonomy on high order thinking level.
