Abstract

This study explores the diversity and potential of medicinal plants at Campus 1 of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta. Using a qualitative descriptive method with an exploratory approach, plant samples were identified across six faculties on Campus 1. The results revealed 16 medicinal plant species from 14 families, with the most common species being lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus). These plants have a wide range of uses, such as traditional remedies for pain, fever, and digestive disorders. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index for medicinal plants at Campus 1 of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta falls into the moderate category (H’ = 2.193), indicating a moderate level of species diversity. The potential of these medicinal plants is highly relevant for research, education, and the development of natural product-based applications. Additionally, these plants serve as valuable learning tools for students in the fields of conservation and ethnobotany.

Abstract

Baluran National Park is a conservation area with various types of ecosystems including seasonal forests, beaches, savannas, evergreen forests, and mangroves. Baluran National Park has very high biodiversity potential. Ants are insects with a high level of diversity that can live in various habitats. This study was conducted to add information about the diversity of ants that inhabit Baluran National Park which has not been widely studied. The research method used was pit trap (PSM) and umpang trap in evergreen forest and bekol savanna, Baluran National Park. The results obtained were 15 genera from 5 subfamilies including Ponaerinae, Myrmicinae, Formicinae, Cerapachyinae, and Pseudomyrmicinae. Subfamily Myrmicinae has the highest number of individuals among other subfamilies.

Abstract

Cassine is a genus of plants belonging to the family Celastraceae. Species of Cassine are among those preserved through ex-situ conservation efforts at the Bogor Botanical Gardens. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the anatomical characteristics of leaf stomata in four distinct Cassine species. Stomatal and epidermal observations were conducted using the replica method. The findings reveal that all Cassine species exhibit anisocytic stomata, characterized by a central guard cell surrounded by three neighboring cells of unequal size. Furthermore, stomata were confined to the abaxial (lower) surface of the leaf, with none present on the adaxial (upper) side. This distribution indicates that gas exchange in Cassine leaves primarily occurs on the lower surface, reflecting a significant physiological adaptation. These observations offer valuable insights into the structural and functional traits of Cassine species conserved at the Bogor Botanical Gardens.
