Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzes the application of SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) as a strategic instrument in planning quality improvement in elementary schools. The main focus of this study is how SWOT analysis can help schools formulate adaptive, collaborative, and sustainability-oriented policies amid the challenges of globalization and digital transformation. This analytical approach not only serves as a tool for identifying the internal and external conditions of schools, but also as a reflective mechanism to strengthen the participation of all stakeholders, including principals, teachers, parents, and the community, in creating a culture of sustainable quality. The results of the study show that the application of SWOT can improve the effectiveness of school strategic planning through the formulation of policies based on data and real needs, strengthen adaptive capabilities to policy changes, and encourage more visionary and measurable decision-making. Critically, this study emphasizes that SWOT analysis is not merely an administrative procedure, but part of the transformation of educational management towards a reflective, participatory, and quality-oriented system. Through the optimal utilization of internal strengths and external opportunities, elementary schools can become learning institutions that are resilient, innovative, and relevant to the needs of the 21st century.

Abstract

The twenty-first century is characterized by rapid developments in science, technology, and information, which require students to possess higher-order thinking skills. One essential skill that needs to be developed from the elementary school level is mathematical thinking ability. This ability is not limited to mastering mathematical concepts and procedures, but also includes logical, critical, and systematic reasoning, as well as problem-solving skills in real-life contexts. This article aims to examine the development of elementary school students’ mathematical thinking skills in response to the challenges of twenty-first-century education. The study employed a qualitative approach using a literature review method by analyzing relevant academic sources, including journals, books, and research articles. The findings indicate that the development of mathematical thinking skills can be effectively enhanced through twenty-first-century learning approaches that are student-centered, problem-based, project-based, contextual, and supported by the integration of technology. In addition, the role of teachers and a supportive school environment is crucial in fostering students’ reflective and creative thinking habits. Strengthening mathematical thinking skills from an early age is expected to equip students to become adaptive, solution-oriented, and well-prepared to face future life challenges.
