Emergency situations include conditions where the victim experiences respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest. Other critical conditions include accidents that require urgent help, such as massive bleeding. Knowledge of basic life support (BLS) procedures is essential so that prompt and appropriate action can be taken, potentially saving the victim’s life. One way to improve this knowledge is through education, such as health counseling or health education programs. Health education is an effort or activity aimed at helping individuals, groups, and communities enhance their knowledge, attitudes, and skills so that they are capable of performing better basic life support actions. The method used in this health promotion activity involved explanations or lectures aided by leaflet media, delivered directly by the instructor to the participants, followed by a question-and-answer session. Based on the analysis of pre-test and post-test results, there was an increase in participants' understanding of basic life support. Knowledge regarding the attitude of a responder towards performing BLS increased from pre (66) to post (78). Knowledge of BLS procedures also improved, from pre (64) to post (88), and understanding of the basic concept of BLS rose from pre (64) to post (89). The results of this health promotion activity indicate that the lecture method, supported by leaflets and direct Q&A sessions, can enhance participants' understanding of basic life support. Keywords: Basic Life Support, Education, High School Students.

Abstract

Background: Fractures resulting from traffic accidents are injuries that have the potential to cause disability if not treated appropriately. One technique used is splinting to prevent bone displacement, reduce pain, and protect surrounding tissue. Students' knowledge of splinting techniques is still low, requiring effective educational methods, such as seminars and self-directed videos. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of splinting skills education for closed fractures using seminars and self-directed videos on the knowledge level of 12th-grade students at SMAN 4 Jakarta. Methods: This study used a Quasi-Experimental design with a Pretest-Posttest with Control Group Design. 144 students were selected using simple random sampling and divided into an intervention group (self-directed video) and a control group (seminar), each with 72 respondents. The research instrument consisted of pretest and posttest questionnaires. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: There was an increase in knowledge in both groups with a p-value <0.05, where the posttest score was higher than the pretest. The positive rank score for the intervention group was 61 and for the control group, 55. Conclusion: Education on splinting skills for closed fractures using seminars and self-directed video was equally effective in improving the knowledge of 12th-grade students at SMAN 4 Jakarta. However, the self-directed video method yielded higher improvement than the seminar method, thus concluding that the self-directed video method is more effective in improving student knowledge.

Abstract

ABSTRACT An emergency situation is a situation that requires immediate treatment or action to eliminate the threat to the victim's life that can cause death. Cardiac arrest is an emergency condition that occurs suddenly without initial symptoms. Without immediate treatment, death can occur in just a matter of minutes. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is one of the most basic treatments when finding someone experiencing cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest. The high death rate due to heart attacks is inseparable from the general public's lack of knowledge in providing first aid when finding victims of cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest outside the hospital. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of basic life support training on the level of knowledge of students at SMAN 5 Jakarta. Researchers provided basic life support training to 103 students. The research method was quantitative, quasi-experimental research type with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the average level of knowledge of students at SMAN 5 Jakarta before and after students were given basic life support training P value = 0.00 (P 0.05). Likewise, at the level of ability, there was a significant difference in the average level of ability of students of SMAN 5 Jakarta before and after being given basic life support training P value = 0.00 (P 0.05). The conclusion is that basic life support training is effective in increasing students' knowledge which has an impact on students' readiness when providing first aid to victims of cardiac and respiratory arrest outside the hospital. Keywords: Training, Basic Life Support, Knowledge Level.
