Abstract

This research project aims to analyze the effectiveness of food social assistance regulations in Indonesia on multidimensional welfare from the perspective of maqāṣid al-syarī’ah. This research employs a mixed-methods approach, integrating both quantitative and qualitative techniques. The quantitative methods include linear regression tests, while the qualitative methods comprise qualitative descriptive analysis. The findings of this research indicate that the food social assistance program, implemented from 2020 to 2023, had a negligible impact on multidimensional welfare indicators in Indonesia, including the unemployment rate, poverty, and the human development index. While the relationship between food social assistance and the Human Development Index (HDI) is relatively weak, there are indications that adequate food access can improve people's nutrition and health. When viewed through the lens of maqāṣid al-syarī’ah, which prioritizes the pursuit of beneficial outcomes, the implementation of food social assistance aligns with the principles of maqāṣid al-syarī’ah, namely the preservation of religion (hifdz al-dīn), the preservation of the soul (hifdz al-nafs), the preservation of reason (hifdz al-’aql), the preservation of property (hifdz al-māl), and the preservation of offspring (hifdz al-nasl). It is hoped that this research will provide guidance for the government in improving food social assistance and other policies for the benefit of the community in line with maqāṣid al-syarī’ah.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyse the credit risk associated with Sharia Microfinance Institutions (MMFIs) in Indonesia. In particular, the study examines the risk associated with fund placement and loan financing over the 2022-2023 period. A qualitative method with statistical analysis is employed to evaluate the relationship between fund placement (the independent variable) and loan financing (the dependent variable). The findings indicate a positive correlation between the two variables, with an increase in fund placement resulting in an increase in loan financing. The analysis also identified downward and upward trends in the Coefficient Adequacy Ratio (CAR) of BPRS, underscoring the significance of risk management with regard to fund placement and microfinance. A decline in the quality of financing could potentially impact liquidity and increase credit risk. This study indicates a negative and symmetrical relationship between NPL BPRS and economic growth in Central Java. However, further investigation is required to ascertain the relationship between NPL BPRS and economic growth in West Java. The findings may assist the OJK and BI in formulating policies to enhance financial stability and safeguard customer funds..

Abstract

Muhammadiyah members' ideologies vary. There are conservative, moderate, and liberal. Studies by Fealy, Zulian, and Burhani pointed out that few Muhammadiyah members adhere to radical views even though the majority is certainly moderate. In this paper, I want to focus on how Muhammadiyah, particularly Ikatan Pelajar Muhammadiyah (IPM, Muhammadiyah School Student Association) shifts the paradigm of some young students in Indonesia from radical to moderate. IPM is an autonomous organization (organisasi otonom, ortom) under Muhammadiyah. This research uses a qualitative approach, focusing on an in-depth understanding of the role of IPM in changing student paradigms. The choice of qualitative methods is suitable for exploring students' views and experiences in detail. The research involved several sources who had experienced a paradigm shift from radical to moderate due to direct contact with IPM programs. I called the efforts of IPM in this field ‘unintentional change’ due to there are just a few IPM events that were intended to solve the problem of radicalization. IPM focuses on other things, such as literacy, ecology, peer mentoring, mental health, culture, and sport. However, through these events, IPM could provide a good environment to decrease the radicalism level and change it to moderate.

Abstract

Interpreter cannot help but be confined to a limited space and time in an effort to interpret the Qur'an. The interpreter is influenced by the externalization of his environment and the internalization of various knowledge. This research discusses the awareness of Hamka's historical influence in the interpretation of QS. al-Baqarah verse 261 and its relevance to the history of educational institutions in Indonesia. This research focuses on three things, namely the treasures of the interpretation of QS. al-Baqarah verse 261, Hamka's concept of education, and the history of national educational institutions that show Hamka's historical influence in the interpretation of the verse. This research uses the theory of “effective-historical consciousness” from Hans-George Gadamer. The conclusion of this research is, first, spending wealth in the way of Allah is not limited to jihad and hajj, but also all virtuous deeds. Second, Hamka has great attention to the field of education. Hamka's concept of education contains four important keywords, namely the function of reason, the integration of science and religion, the purpose of education, and gender equality. Third, before the existence of formal education in the form of schools, mosque, langgar and surau education were known. Then in the corridor of colonization of the archipelago, the Portuguese and Dutch colonizers established schools in the context of spreading religion and colonization. Meanwhile, during the Japanese colonization, the quantity of schools decreased. This limited number and quality faced by Hamka is one indication of the influence of history in Hamka's interpretation in Al-Azhar.
